I absolutely love this scene! Superman puts himself in a place of shame by not reacting to the guy’s offense because he’s not a coward, he knew that he could kill that guy with a finger. At the same time he put the guy to shame by not moving when the guy shoved him. All of that in front of a couple of army guys. That was so awesome to see!

And then Clark becomes the smallest man in the room, because he destroys the man's livelihood by literally destroying the truck. The trucker was a jerk, but what Clark did was completely out of line. That's like a person shoplifts, and the shop owner burns the guy alive.
This scene effectively showcases Clark's restraint and strength, both in character and power.

Wrong! What kind of person takes it all out on a defenseless 18 wheeler???
@MrBronze15

He looks pretty sober after he finish with the place. Keep in mind these people who drove truck for a long journey need their needs properly given as well, there are plenty of cases of truckd rivers got driving burnout or got "million mile stare" for lack of sleep or entertainment. Being drunk driving for these truck driver is the least thing you need to worry about. The company actually have to make sure the driver had their time to rest properly. Back to superman so yeah, the guy probably just trying to have his time for the next long boring journey, it is still an understandable behaviour but still a bit too far as well. So Superman could just scold him a bit or "mildly" intimidate him without overly showing or using his power. Destroying the truck is a very very bad response. There's some cases poor truck driver just sitting alone in a bar he was stuck in random town for a few days and had never been there, and didn't know anyone because his truck broken down. So yeah pretty much that will happen to the guy thanks to Clark generosity for displaying his restraint and strength.
@WhimsicalWanderer730
6 ай бұрын
@@mcleodmichael1 Describing an 18-wheeler as defenseless is irrational, as it anthropomorphizes an inanimate object. Logically, a truck, unlike a living being, cannot experience defenselessness. The focus of the argument should be on Clark's intentions and choices, rather than fabricating a narrative by attributing victim-like qualities to an object. Rethink your stance and try again.

A lot of people didn’t like Man of Steel. But I did. The best thing about it was that Zod had a purpose to restore his people. In the Christopher Reeves version, Zod was portrayed as just evil and power hungry. Zod had more depth here. I think that makes this film better

He could have shown restraint and still physically removed the guy from the bar and had the police put him in the drunk tank, he could have done something to prevent this dude from attacking and embarrassing him after sexually assaulting his coworker. Tired of people saying he "showed restraint." ever time he lifts something up, moves at a normal speed, or just interacts with literally any object he's "showing restraint." he could have prevented the guy from throwing beer in his face and physically restrained him without giving away the fact that he's superman, and that can't even be your justification for it in the first place because the "resolution" of the conflict is him doing something ONLY superman could possibly do (or someone with superhuman abilities).

@@ross-carlson I never said he should do exactly what he did on this scene. What can't happen is for a superhero to act on some things and don't act on others he considers "less damaging". Yes, I want to see bullies get f****, because I've been a victim of bullying for a huge part of my life and that's caused too many issues in my life, specially psychologically; issues that have lasted to this day. And then you say people should be terrified of me? Just wake up. It's this kind of misdirecting of blame that keeps bullying happening. You should be ashamed, really.

Um, no, that isn't at all what it shows - what it shows is that this version of Superman is a selfish, petulant child who rather than deal with this like an adult (ie walk away or walk away and call the police if it's warranted) he walks away then DESTROYS A MAN'S LIVELIHOOD. I don't know about you but I've never been so upset, especially over something so relatively small, that I waned to end someone's career. I know it's played for laughs but it is anything but funny.

Thank you, this shit is awful. He could have physically restrained the man and had the police pick him up if his goal was to keep his powers concealed but handle the situation appropriately and protect everyone, but he for some reason shows great restraint in not even blocking the guy from pouring beer on him or shoving him then loses all of that patience and constructs a monument for everyone to see how powerful and vengeful he is. Its just actual dogshit, if you asked a writer to come up with the least satisfying, least logical, and most ridiculous way for Clark to respond to this situation, this is what they could come up with.@@franzschubertv2874

The movie started great, with scenes like this one and the school bus. The second act needed a big rethink.
Friends don't let friends (or enemies) drive drunk.
Imagine throwing a beer in the face of a literal demi-god.
Considering that his debut as Superman wasn't long after this, and that his face was subsequently shown all over the world, I always wonder if the trucker put two and two together.

When I watched this scene on the movie for the first time, it had me burst out in laughter for around 5 minutes, nearly suffocate me when I saw the impaled and mangled truck. God, this is funny. Never anger the man of steel.
Yes, getting up against the mountain sized buss boy and then continuing to do so after hitting him, realising he is an actual mountain, is what every movie bully would do.
when he tries to push him.... hahahahahahahaha he is like what the frick was that jerry?
Enjoyed the movie, but this is still one of the best scenes ever. Reminiscent of the original Superman with Christopher Reeves RIP. 👍🏾

Trivia bit... this scene was filmed right here on Vancouver Island in Canada where I live. The Cassidy Bar (you can catch a glimpse of the name at the beginning of the clip) was known as a popular biker bar. It burned down about a year after this scene was filmed.

The sad part here is, not a single person stepped in to help the girl besides Clark. Not even the "tough" foreign soldiers.
