This story just warms my heart! I follow Southwest Florida Eagles. M15, who is raising his 2 eaglets: E21 & E22 because Mama Harriet never came back home. We are all crushed with that story.

Me too. I follow Mr M15's family's story. I never knew eagles were so "family oriented". I just thought these raptors hunt, eat and sleep, and just do that routine offspring production without any whatsoever attachment we know of. M15 opened my eyes wide. And oh, yes, Harriet will be missed dearly. We're all proud of papa M15.

In the wild bald eagles do share hatching duties. Good for Murphy!!! Couldn't Murphy have a rock in the future that does not have sharp edges though, if there is a next time? One that is round shaped would be more comfortable. Neat video!

I love Murphy! I'm so glad he got a chance to use those natural instincts. Although animals are in captivity, it's ideal to get them as close to a natural environment as possible and provide them with all they need to be a balanced and healthy creature. Providing a foster chick to an eagle who was obviously wanting to parent was a stroke of genius. And it's probably given Murphy more stimulation and enrichment than the facility could provide with other means. A baby to raise, feed and protect is a fulfilment of Murphy's life and all his natural instincts. Bravo!💕🦅💕

I mean, not really? For starters, with eagles (and most birds of prey, really) it's the female that is larger. They also share incubation and parenting duties pretty evenly. You could say that eagles are matriarchal since the females are bigger and are the ones that hold down the territory, but saying that a male eagle is trans because he loves and takes care of a nest is unfair to both humans and eagles.

@joshcantrell8397 did you listen to the story or ever read a book. They said male eagles help with the raising of their young. I've seen it on the live eagle cams in nests. The male will keep the eggs warm so mom can go hunt and take a break. It's not abnormal.
