Pair of bald eagles exchange incubation duties at their snow-covered nest
Credit: credit Friends of Big Bear Valley
A pair of Bald eagles are tending a nest with two eggs in the snow at Big Bear Lake in California.
On Thursday morning, the larger male eagle returned to the nest, put a stick on the female's tail feathers and moments later the female flew away, leaving the male to tend to the eggs.
Friends of Big Bear Valley, which operates a webcam near the nest, say the eggs are expected to hatch in mid-March.
The nest is in a pine tree about 145 feet (44 meters) in the air.

These eagles are more responsible than most parents these days.

😂😂 Honey today was sooo long and cold and I’m tired and hungry. *stick*
I love how careful they are when giving their mate respite from parenting duties.
That’s so fucking sick when the eagle comes swooping in like “what up babe” 😂
They are THE best parents, love them!!!!
Even animals have responsibilites.
Eagles be like: Jonathan: Ok, Jane. You go stretch your wings. Grab some rays and a bite to eat. I'll keep the place at bay. Janice: Thank you John

@TotalyAdSafe I think this might actually be Jackie and Shadow :) you can watch their live stream by searching Friends of Big Bear Valley! They're currently incubating 2 eggs from this year! Super interesting, I've gotten all invested in them lmao!

David Prowse of avian kind.
So it is humans who have to learn from Bald Eagles on taking care of their kids
Pretty sure that’s Jackie and Shadow! If it is and not a different pair, I believe Jackie (the female) is actually a good deal bigger than Shadow, and tends to only give him a fraction of the egg-time that he would prefer before coming back to resume her own egg-duties.
They are good parents.

Hi
Extraordinary
Sounds icy there. Love bald eagles and their sharing of the incubating and then brooding and feeding of the eaglets. Do you think he put the stick on her to let her know he wanted to take over?

I think the stick was unintentionally moved by his talon. They mostly communicate with their sounds, once one comes back they exchange places.
Shared parental responsibility 🫶
Love this!
Stunning! Hello from South Africa
FYI- Please note that it is actually the female that is the larger of the two eagles. That is the way it always is with raptors! It is the female, Jackie, who is flying in and demanding that Shadow, the smaller eagle, the male, get off the nest. She really does rule the roost, so to speak :-)
This is magnificent Bird it doesn't scavenge it hunts fresh food and it's independent.. my country's symbol..

Well, they can be very dangerous to other animals. Bald eagles do stalk and kill baby deer so I wouldn't dare underestimate them...
beautiful view
That's shadow and Jackie from Big Bear Valley
Dankeschön Fr Oberstleutnant
Looks like it's Shadow (male) sitting on the nest and Jackie (female) kicks him out. Shadow loves his nest time but Jackie calls the shots!! Love these two love birds!!!
