Murphy The Eagle Fosters Another Stranded Eaglet | Living St. Louis
Murphy, the famous eagle from the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri, is fostering an eaglet for the second time.
The bald eagle’s story first went viral in 2023 after he built a nest and tried to hatch a rock. Soon after trying to hatch the rock, the then 31-year-old eagle was given a foster eaglet who had fallen out of its nest.
In Spring of 2024, Murphy was given another eaglet who came to the sanctuary under similar circumstances. #murphytheeagle #eagles #animalrescue

Kinda terrifying, but they’ll be fine, regal overlords! All hail Murphy!
It would be awesome if the sanctuary would have a live stream of Murphy and the eaglet that the world could watch. Also include links so those who wish to donate to the care of the birds at sanctuary can do so. It's a win win for all 💜🦅💜🦅

So true! It’s a missed financial opportunity for them. When the baby otters have been rescued, or the hippo Fiona was born early, people watched and donated. I know I did!

I'm so happy to hear that Murphy gets to be a Dad again. It's a win/win for him and the orphaned eaglet.
Boy's spending his twilight years being a dad I can get by that
I remember when he first tried to brood on a rock, and how we begged for him to get an eaglet. It was so funny seeing that once again, a dad has to dad

I love the sign they had up wishing him all the best hatching his rock... And then he proved the haters wrong by actually making it happen 😂❤
Love the idea of Murphy preparing these birds for life in the wild. He's like Mr Miyagi with feathers

Just Love Murphy! He's amazing! Even though he can't live in the outside world he still gets to have an amazing life! He has taken care of a eaglet that got to be released, What a great job you did Murphy! And now has another one! Simply Amazing! So happy that he got to fulfill his natural urge to be a parent!

I absolutely love that Murphy the Eagle has been given another Eaglet to care for. It would be awesome if all Eagles who are no longer able to be out in the wild can also be able to foster parent an Eaglet in need so the Eaglet will be able to go back out into the wild and live like an Eagle and hopefully be able to also have a family of their own too. Thank you sweet Murphy and humans too for helping this Eaglet get love and the care that it needs from an Eagle rather then a human.👏🏻👏🏻🥰❤️🙏🦅🦅❌⭕️

It’s Murphy’s advanced age and strong nesting instincts that made him the ideal foster parent - which is the extreme exception rather than the rule. Fostering eaglets from a brood other than one’s own isn’t instinctual to eagles - or even something they’re interested in. Except for the bird they’ve pair-bonded with, they’re quite competitive for food and territory. Among wild eagles, parents generally put themselves before their offspring. Just this year, Big Bear’s Jackie ate two of her own eggs (though non-viable) - and in Shepherdstown WV, a father killed two of his own eaglets and ate them. Viewers also watched in horror on KZread’s livestream as PA’s famous eagle “Duke” killed and ate his first-hatched. Eating one’s own hatchling occurs because eagles often don’t recognize their own young. Eaglets are defenseless against adult eagles - and there is ordinarily a very high risk that an eagle will view an eaglet - especially not of their own brood - as prey. So providing captive eagles with “the opportunity to foster an eaglet in need” would prove utterly disastrous - if you’re hoping to raise that eagle for future release. The professionals know what they’re doing.

He tried to hatch a rock.. thats sad and heartwarming ❤
This is so sweet. What a good foster dad Murphy is ❤
Murphy is a great dad!
Go Murphy! 🦅 Dad Eagles seem quite hormonal and capable of raising young; one in SWFL raised his chick alone after the mother disappeared, another in Big Bear was hesitant to stop incubating 60-day-old nonviable eggs, even after the mom gave up.

They probably has strong parental instinct as a mother since most birds raise chicks together. Some species more than others, eagles turns out to be that.

Great on Murphy, he's such a great loving dad. It's amazing and just makes you smile. So glad his last chick was set free. Lovely video to see it fly off into the wild. Great job well done by all. 👍👏💕😍❤️
Murphy is the best parent! He just wanted to raise a baby in the worst way. Now, he's been given the chance, again.💝🦅🦅💝
I’d like to see people who rescue, treat, and release or offer adoption for their animals, be recognized all over the world with a sir David Attenborough medal. Eg. This gentleman, and Lee Asher, and hundreds more. 👍

Thanks for the video about Murphy and the eaglet. I just ♥️ eagles! 🥰
I'm overjoyed by this! Even though naming a releasable raptor is bad luck, I think we the public need to keep going with the rock theme and very much unofficially call Murphy's second foster baby Petra.
I L❤VE this. 🦅 Murphy, keep on keeping on
Wonderful story, we need more positive stories like this, especially on mainstream media with all the hate and discontent and violence in the world. It gives me hope for humanity.
