Keep in mind that in Malaysia, it is a multicultural society. There are many ethnic groups from the majority Malays to the Chinese, Indians and many more. Every group has their own culture and values. Some cultures are completely fine having strangers around kids, others don't. About the toilet situation. From my experience living here for 26 years, the climate is very hot and humid for most of the year. There's a saying, rain or shine, you are gonna get wet. Therefore we don't mind just using water to wash and cool ourselves down. Regarding the hygiene, we still need to work on that. Regarding family structures, it is something many groups here share. There can be households with multiple generations. That's because many cultures here are community based cultures where we live together as a unit. This is in stark contrast to many western cultures where the individual is a priority. Glad you are diving into Malaysian stuff. Hope to see more from you on learning about my country.

Children are special in Malaysia, somewhat sacred, they’re blessings from the above. Generally, no one will dare to touch children with ill intention. If you do, there will be whoopping

Wet toilets in Malaysians because the average Muslim population uses medium water to wash the anus after defecating and the penis or vagina after urinating. For example, you rub butter on your hands and then wipe it with a tissue once, twice, three times, but the butter is not necessarily completely clean. You need to use the medium of water and soap to clean the butter completely. That's what it means.

You don't have to worry about dirty water puddling, we have drain holes in the bathroom, as for toilet paper it's usually by the sinks, pull out the amount you think you need, and bring it into the stall.. It's to prevent people from pulling to much, then it roll out onto the wet floors...

As for the toilet seats older people tend to squat on the toilet bowl if the squat toilet is not unavailable to them..

no tipping because they get considerable amount of salary from the establishment. don't worry, they don't work for free. some employers even provide accomodation & food or transport allowence. but, if you still want to give them a tip, in Malaysia, we use the word "sedekah" which means an alm, or just tell them it's a present for them. then they'll accept your tip.

it is just the way we think. you guys may think 'what might left' in the water puddle, but we clean all our body part with water, just like we clean our whole body by taking bath or clean our hands before eating, not just by wiping it out. And also we make sure everything left on the floor is just clean water. the water will flow out through the hole/drain in the floor... (well of course not everyone are 'civilized' here...) strangers can kiss our child, we use to live in a community where pedophile is a strange word (rephrase: never heard of). we are not familiar with 'weird' attitude. autism wasn't a thing pre 2000s. all we had was down syndrome. we dont have people who are lactose or gluten intollerant. vegans/vegetarians are only religion reason. LGBTs are not known and not practiced. we do have dude who looks like a lady, but not to an extent where dude having sex with another dude who looks like a dude as well... flat earthers? nobody has the idea tho.. after the age of Information, now we do have what you've already seen in western world.. and no one would ever kiss some other people's baby anymore, but for a different reason (not to spread diseases to the baby..)

In malaysia there are restaurants that have 2 types of taxes. The sst tax and service tax. SST is a government tax and service tax is like a tip or commission. The rate for sst is 6% and service tax is 10%. So you will pay 16% just for taxes

Wonder why people don't talk about this as much....majority of Malaysians are muslim and if you know a bit about this religion, we pray 5 times a day (in addition to other religious activities in between) and thus the purpose of a bidet, bum gun/spray (very common item in toilets here in Malaysia) to clean yourself. You don't want to go to the mosque/masjid or mosholla/prayer hall/surau with a stain & stinking underwear (it is forbidden by the way). You need to clean-up when you pray. It is also a good personal hygiene practice and is also about keeping your body clean especially 'those' parts 😅😅.
