My first visit to Nebraska was 4-5 years ago and I drove the length of the state. I came up from North Carolina to visit friends just outside of Scottsbluff. The two things I couldn’t get used to were the flies and the wind. Both of which were nonstop. Spending most of my life in the northeastern states, seeing so much flat ground was interesting. It sort of reminded me of a trip I took to Texas, only greener.

I am 66 years old and have lived in central Indiana my whole adult life. I have driven down the Interstate and saw pivots on farm fields and knew that they were for irrigation, but had no idea what they were called and how they worked. It wasn't until I started watching your channel a couple of weeks ago that I learned how these gadgets worked. BTW, I found out about your channel when you became a Bunker Branding partner. I already watch Demolition Ranch, Off the Ranch, Ryan McBeth and Donut Operator. I also watch Matt's Off Road Recovery, who you have mentioned.

You guys rock. I was raised on a farm, my dad rented a chicken farm. Every nine weeks we cleaned everything . I washed so many watering jars, etc etc. I understand hard work. When I was drafted oh so many years ago, I remember telling my Dad, “hey Dad we exercise, shoot guns and eat three humongous meals a day. I love It, and all the hot water for showers that we need!!!” Yeah, some guys cried from the exercise, I didn’t understand. Good stuff Laura!

I have sold seed for 35 years. One of my favorite customers and old neighbor here in adjacent townships that we knew quite well. Back before the Advent of Roundup ready beans he always said never plant more beans through the day then you can get out after supper and spray because if there's any moisture at all in the soil they're going to sprout in about 48 to 72 hours there going to be up. I've always remembered that.

Just a suggestion Laura and Grant, when climbing on the pivots, you might choose to wear a safety harness with tie off to the cables running along the pivot. Then if you had a slip, your fall would be limited. Yeah I know.. what a pain... but, you only have one life.

Awesome to see you two growing your family farm, and doing so much maintenance and repairs, as you learn to get the best results. In your process to maintain and improve your irrigation systems, I worry about your safety, especially as you multitask from such an elevated position. Just a quick recommendation that you look into fall protection harnesses for you and Grant. I’m sure you’ve seen grain bin builders using them, and we use them all the time in the emergency service field. Truly want you two to keep doing great on your farm, and growing, while adding this beneficial safety component when you’re working in unpredictable elevations.

@@js7127 From what I understand the section on the end furthest from the center moves all the time. At each joint between the other sections there is a sensor that detects defection as each section gets out of line. Once the deflection gets great enough it turns on the motor for that section and moves it forward until it gets ahead of the next section outside it when it shuts things off. It then sits there until the sensor tells it to move again. I may be way off but this is how I imagine these things work.
