I have been making my own lures since the mid 70s. We fished for Walleyes and Yellow Perch. Now I have moved to Florida and it's a different game. I will have to learn how to make Bass lures. I have found the right teacher. Great job.....Bill

Man this is great ! I just finished whittling out my second ever lure today . My first is a top water popper and the second is a jitterbug lure. They’re crude and painted with rattle can paint but it’s a great feeling to make something with just a pocket knife and some time. Thanks for the great video I’m inspired to get better at it.

I found a nice little trick for placing the eyes. Clip the cotton off the end of a q-tip and glue a small piece of masking tape to it and trim the excess tape around the tip. It holds the eye pretty well so it can be placed accurately. Thanks for the great vids!

Great content and very nice lipless. Sweet job! What does the baking soda do if you don’t mind? Do you drop glue into it? Thanks for sharing
@zimmtex
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The baking soda is a filler. When you put a drop of superglue on it, it hardens into a sandable, paintable material.
It appears your eye package is an assortment of sizes. That would be handy. Where did you get them? Also, if you said what your clear coat is I missed it. I think it’s some type two part epoxy, but not sure Your workmanship is outstanding. Thanks.
@zimmtex
Жыл бұрын
I found those eyes on Amazon. I actually don't remember what clearcoat I was using at the time, but I reccomend either East Coast Resin or TrueCoat which are both 2-part epoxies. I have links to most of the products I use on my website: www.ZimmtexLures.com/productlinks Thanks for watching and for your support!
Good afternoon, I just wanted to say what a fantastic video this is, your technique for texturing the foil is genius! I'm really new to lure making, only started looking at making my own this week. How strong is the connection between the hook hanger where they are glued into the wood? Are they strong enough for a big 30lb pike? I only ask because I've seen other video where people make a wire frame I guess that's glued into a channel in the body where the hooks and main eyelet are all connected. (Sorry I'm not sure of all the technical language) Thanks in advance for any light you can shine on my confusion. Sam
@zimmtex
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear about your lure making and I hope you find it as rewarding as I do. The twist wire method I used in this video is quite strong and would most likely hold up to a pike. However, if you know you are going after bigger fish, I recommend a through-wire. Check out my video "Making a Wooden 7" Minnow Lure." That one has a through-wire harness in a different configuration.
@drakeybabe
4 жыл бұрын
@@zimmtex Thanks for the information. What kind of wire do you use for the harness? I've had a look online but there is so many different types and diameters, I have no idea how strong they are either. Thanks
@zimmtex
4 жыл бұрын
@@drakeybabe I used stainless steel aircraft lock wire (.041") for this lure. It is very strong. For bigger lures I think I use .061".

Hmmm... I do study a lot of fish pictures to get a better idea of proportions and gill patterns. Mine are not 100% accurate, but just remember that you are trying to capture the essence of a fish. There are lots of great lures that are highly stylized with sharp angled features that are not at all accurate. Until you develop your own style, you can always print out an image from the internet and trace it onto your lure. Thanks for your interest!
Good👍👍
