The part where he was setting the temp and time, or what have you, on the kiln took so long it sounded like he was typing his pieces a love letter. Dear Dishes, I hope that you're all feeling secure and well tended. I know that we won't see each other for a couple of days, but know that I'll be thinking of you and hoping that everything goes to plan for you. All of my hopes are pinned on your safe return, so be well. All my Love: Jon

Okay, so the glaze production process is complicated, but the last step of pottery production is to cover the clay (already fired once to at least 800 C, so that it is no longer water soluble) in a solution of various chemicals and minerals. Before they are fired, they will often be an unappealing color, but once they are fired in a kiln to anywhere from 1000 to 2300 C, the glaze melts and reacts with the air and the other chemicals in it to turn into a colored glass coating on the outside of the ceramic, which is called a glaze. There are lots of ways to develop different color pallets, but since Jon was firing in an electric kiln, I would guess that the glaze was colored with either cobalt or copper.

I haven’t thrown in a very long time, but i seem to remember a technique to throwing plates where you basically just throw a wide bowl and then flatten the walls of it. That way there’s less of a massive foot to trim. Maybe I’m making just making that up or something tho I don’t really remember

I'm a huge JTP fan. I really like your (hilarious) monologue and equally like your silent demos. As do many potters, I am getting lots of requests for dinner sets including plates. So far I haven't seen any demos or instructions on how to fire a significant number of plates. If the plates have any diameter at all, it's going to take up most of, if not the entire, shelf. I don't have 6 full shelves for a firing of only 6 plates. I've seen/heard of "plate sitters" but, while those aren't cheap, it's the only solution that I've dug up, and even then, no video demos on best use. If you care to address, would love to hear your take...
