I doubt they ran out of material, I'm sure it's just for budget reasons. They're selling the sword from this video for $2k, even though you could probably find a better one for about half of that. They're not a multi-million dollar company, they need to make money to keep making these videos, so making another one could be a bad idea. I'm just rambling now, but in short, Will has no experience with making a sword like this, so if he were to try again it could end up being another failure.

Edit to front-load this with: Happy belated birthday, Will! Hope you had a good one. It's unfortunate that the hook-swords didn't work out, Will, but I'm glad you were able to pull something out of the project. Not only that, but I'm very impressed with your willingness to forge ahead and hammer out the issues without losing your temper. ... I just found this video and I love hook swords and have been waiting for a good video of the making of these weapons as they require great skill and craftsmanship to produce. The fact that you made it as far as you did still is amazing to me because I have come to understand the great effort and skill ones need to fashion and forge the steel of a hook sword. I was shocked when I heard and seen your project snap, I must say it was hard to watch and I could only imagine your distain when that happened. All and all great attempt and well done, the fact that your project was compromised yet you still kept motivated and persistent to produce a fine result is excellent. I must say your video was inspiring and very well put together. Props to your finished product and thank you for taking the time and effort to present this video. I liked and will subscribe to your channel as I think you deserve support as you have a great gift and skill and should share that with others. Keep up the great work!! Cheers from Canada!! Jian refers to a sword with an edge on both sides of the blade; a dao is for single edged blades. For a straight translation without context jian=sword and dao=knife but we see that a lot in history; for example, messer in German means knife, but we also see single edged swords with the same title. The way to distinguish sub classes of dao/jian/messer is by what leads the word(yanmaDAO, liuyeDAO, kriegsMESSER).

That's a super interesting modern take on the jian; the utilitarian guard and grip, basic color scheme, monosteel blade are all very sleek and modern, but as with any sword, all that really matters is the blade, and it seems like this one cuts like a beast! Definitely a moment of pride to have your touchmark on there all by itself, I hope you felt it too!

Will made a beautiful job of the Jian, watching them cut with it showed the balance and design off really well. I have been training with a Jian for about ten years, it is said in China the Jian is a gentleman's weapon and to learn it thoroughly takes ten thousand hours. I still have a bit to learn.

It is good to see you making your handle from a single piece. I see a lot of these other forgers using the two piece handle. So they have to glue it together. The one single piece handle looks so much better with out the seam line. If you are not covering it, plus it takes less time and you do not have to use glue.
