Making a 'Deluxe' Tooled Leather Shot Pouch Bag for Black Powder Leather Working ASMR

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Long-time viewers have seen me make one of these small possibles bag previously. However, this is the deluxe "tooled & jeweled" version. Made to hold the lead balls and a percussion cap tin for black powder / muzzeloading shooters. The rounded bottom makes getting those last balls out easy.

Laser is an xTool P2
Below is a link for saving a few bucks purchasing a P2 direct from xTool. I was given this code to pass on to my viewers when I first received the the laser. Hopefully it still works:

I made one of these last year. It is extremely similar, even down to the molded cap tin holder. Mine is kinda standard and not the Deluxe version. This is really well done.

So far you are the only person I've seen casing the leather using saddle soap and in a zip-lock bag, I have watched every show you have done so I know you were shown that way when you were a scout. As a total novice, I'm looking at things with fresh eyes so if you don't mind I will share what I've picked up on. As I said I am right at the beginning of this journey so I'm still only making patterns for bags and wallets. Not a huge call for holsters over here in Scotland. From what I've seen so far the saddle soap looks like it's lubricating the leather, probably not the proper term but don't shoot me, please. You are working with leather much thicker than what I will be using so will it still allow me to tool the leather, obviously not to your standard but would your process make the leather overly soft and mushy say if I was using a thinner piece of leather? I love the way your work takes colour and you don't have to beat the siht out of it when you are tooling it and the way the swivel knife glides when you are lining out a pattern. Most of all the others I've seen only use water and I am In no position to critique some master craftsmen's work but it looks like they do have to batter the tools into the piece they are working on. I feel your leather looks more plump than the others and I am attributing that to the saddle soap. Anyway I have said enough tonight so thank you for sharing your craft with us and all the very best from Scotland

Their should have been a small screw that would secure the belt tip, but, I like your way much better. It completes rivets and the project. I like the way you video the build. Showing the highlights and the compete process, not getting stuck on one thing such as sewing. I hate it when someone has a twenty minute video with fifteen minutes spent on sewing up the project. A Big Thank You for that.

Hey! Thanks for subscribing. I got that tip back when I was a kid in the 80s from The Leather Factory (before they were purchased by Tandy). Then I saw a saddle maker's KZread channel where they used the same technique. It 'lubricates' the leather fibers -- Makes your swivel knife glide easier, and makes for better stamp impressions. It also slows down the drying process so you don't have to rewet as often. I only do it when I'm tooling a large portion of the surface on a piece of leather.

How did you avoid the smoke and bad burn marks on the laser?

The very first clip is me wetting the leather before putting it in the machine. This is mostly to help it lay flat. But also helps some with the scorching. It's also dependent the power settings and the speed of the cut.

    What does saddle soap do?

It lubricates the leather fibers to help make better stamp impressions. It also slows down the drying time so I don't have to rewet as often.
