Making an anime-inspired "Toshiro" leather backpack satchel leathercraft ASMR
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This backpack was a special back-to-school request from my daughter. I'm a few weeks late for the beginning of school . . . but better late than never. It reminds her of something from the anime "Attack on Titan" (I've only seen a few episodes of that one). Anyway, it's boxy and cool like the Wednesday Adams bag I made in a previous video.
The pattern, which is well-engineered and thought out, is from Etsy seller VasileAndPavel, and although they didn't sponsor this video, you should definitely check out their shop.
The shell is made from a very nice oil-tan hide I've been holding on to. The liner is pigskin. This is the most saddle stitching I've ever put into a single project.

Hey! Great pattern, btw!! I was going to send you a link to the video via your Etsy shop, but looks like you already saw it! Yeah, I've also used a staple gun before . . . it you REALLY need make it tight (or if the tape won't hold)

Absolutely stunning, I would love to see one with slots for books, laptops, and pens in the interior and side pockets! Also, I bet if you flip the buckle for the top straps, you could get a really tight look to those straps! Absolutely incredible and your daughter is incredibly fortunate to have you as a father. The amount of love and care that went into this to make it perfect for her really shows your character. You didn't just show us how to make a bag, but what it is to be a great dad.

That looks amazing and I would totally buy it. Although if it were me making it, I would add some modern features into the inside. Like I would make a pocket for a chrome book, or make a thing for a power bank to be sewn into it to charge my electronics. Or even make one of the pockets RFID blocking capable.

That was an epic build. Are the regular hole punches you use (the one with multiple punches) not heavy enough for the hard liner you used?
@RoadAgentLeather
8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! It's not that my regular chisels aren't strong enough (they are). It's that this pattern is engineered with certain spots having variable stitch lengths (the hole spacing). A multi-punch chisel still would have helped for those long, straight runs, but I didn't have them in the required spacing/size. And I didn't want to shell out for new sets of punches just for this one project.
That is a beautiful work of art brother

Wow, that backpack is absolutely gorgeous! All of your work is outstanding, and I can only hope to be a fraction of the craftsman you are someday. Your daughter has excellent taste in anime. I’m a lover of the Wild West, and a connoisseur of anime (so to speak) Attack on Titan is one of the best. I definitely recommend watching some anime with her, it’ll be a great time for bonding, and I think you’ll really enjoy the stories, and the way those stories are told in anime.

Absolutely gorgeous! Add a technical question: why did you use a single hole punch for the stitching rather then the stitching prongs?
@RoadAgentLeather

Thanks for watching. The hole spacing on the pattern varies in certain parts. Additionally, I didn't have stitching chisels in the right specs and didn't want to buy new ones.
Neat!

It's videos like this that make me think that crimes like arson and theft are way worse than we give them attention for. Just the thought that something that takes this much time and effort to make could be destroyed or lost because of someone else's grievances. I wonder just how many gems like this have been lost to the world forever because of the cruelty of others. Absolute masterpiece of leatherwork

Really nice build. Thanks for the video. I noticed you have started using Eco Flow contact cement. Is there a reason you switched from Renia Aquilim 315? You got me started using it from watching your videos and I know you were strong on it. Just wondering.

That looks a lot like dieselpunk's motoko mini bag. I'm totally not saying you stole it or anything. This is impressive stuff. I love that perfect mix of beauty and function. If you asked someone to imagine the purest, most quintessential crossbody leather bag, this is what would come to their mind. Or a messenger bag. Some people are stupid. I like to think my version is up their with yours and DPs, but I bet that the one thing each of us would change would be the depth of our pouches, especially considering the weight of leather you have to use to get this guy to hold its shape. They're so small and squarish and nothing fits in them without looking awkward! Water bottle? Ruins the whole clean look. Cell phone? Absolutely perfect, but who's gonna open a strap each time they want their phone. Another feature that I have come to love is magnets disguised as straps. A backpack that I had years before starting leatherwork had them and they make opening and closing your stuff SO EASY. On buckleguy, they sell some for like a few bucks per set, but I buy from applied magetics because they're made in Texas and they're cheap. Like I bought a set of 50 little button magnets from them for $100 or something like that. Good work my friend! Designing your own patterns is an automatic level up.
@RoadAgentLeather
8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! This is definitely NOT my design. I purchased the pattern from Etsy seller VasileAndPavel. Yes! The pockets really could be just a half inch deeper/taller. I've used magnets before and found they weren't strong enough for actual use. What magnetic claps are you using?
Beautiful work and a stunning leather rucksack , out of curiosity what would one cost in money
I'm just curious, i know you cut a lot of the repetitive stuff out for video enjoyment, how many hours would you say went into this? what an awesome gift for your daughter and so thoughtful too. i really like the finished product and it looks like it will last such a long time. Really great work!
