Make Your Own Outdoor Chameleon Planter Box Cage!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The best way to get your chameleon outdoors is in a large, heavily planted cage with a soil floor. If you are not able to build a 4' x 4' x 7' tall cage, the Planter Box cage is a good solution! You can heavily plant this cage and move it where ever it needs to be to get more sun or get out of the sun! In this video I tell you how I built my planter box cage!

Wow, thanks!! I keep tarantulas, but your lessons are encouraging me to start with chameleons as well.

Just hang out and learn as much as you can. And when you feel you are ready you will do awesome! Chameleon keeping is only hard for the people who get one and then ask how to take care of it!

Awesome video. Do you happen to have the measurements for your wood cuts handy? I want to give this a try for my panther

Love it! I avtually wanna try this with my pair of false chameleons one day to show off on my channel. That said, would it be possible for me to use all wood for the frame even if I do properly seal it? I just feel that the more space I have with my animals, the better. Also, does covering it up with plastic tarp except for the spotlight indoors be acceptable for colder times? I'm very curious to know all that I can. Thanks much!

Hey Bill, wonderful video. What sealant do you use for the wood?

I am trying a waterproofing wood finish by Behr. I am really still learning about external wood sealants. I am holding off giving specific advice on this subject until I feel I really understand the pros and cons of the various options.

this is great.! Do you think I could do this for a panther chameleon here in Houston Texas?

This works great for my panthers. I am not familiar with the weather in Houston, though. You would just have to make sure you had options during weather extremes.

Quick question first I love your pod cast and look to you for any information on Chameleon keeping, unless I missed it, have you thought about using a liner like a thick one like a pool liner like a water proof liner

  • @peanut0578

    @peanut0578

And I would only use the liner to the bottom silicon the edges like glue so the drainage holes can still drain

A pond liner would work great and I would consider using this for an indoor planter box. But with the outdoor planter box I wanted to maintain drainage. Of course, I pay for that with the wood exposed to the soil. So each approach has its pros and cons. But, yes, pond liner would work great!

I was thinking of actually doing this for an indoor bio active enclosure. A drainage management system seems easy enough to add.

I am keeping my little dude in a screened enclosure inside of my pool enclosure. Does anybody know if enough UVB will make it through 2 levels of screen to keep my chameleon happy?

  • @ChameleonAcademy

It will depend on how thick the screen is. And we do not know what the minimum effective UVB exposure is so anything we offer would be a guess.

so I have a question when its a hot day & theyre in the shade they dont need the sunlight hitting them besides the morning? because my veiled if hes in the shade he gets his black dots out & he will follow any beam of sunlight hitting his cage he will climb his cage just to be in the sun.

  • @ChameleonAcademy

Your job is to give him sunny and shady spots. Then let him do whatever he wants! But you do have to be careful that he always has shady spots available to him because the sun will do serious damage if he can’t get out of it. But, yes, I have some Veileds that will be out when it is way too hot. But it is no problem because they can get out of it anytime they want.

Florida is a big place. There are areas where panthers and veileds are invasive. So it depends on what area you are in.
