I love that they stick to their protocol regardless of obstacles. It gives people definite boundaries, no excuses. It's the ultimate in protective security as they truly are highly trained military, rather than toy soldiers. The only person who generated empathy for accidentally being in their way was that little girl in the video where she presented flowers to the Queen and the guard accidentally hit her as he saluted. Other than she, everyone else deserves the squishing if they are in the way.

We have this issue in the States. The Tomb of the Unknown Solider. People trespass on sacred ground just to get pictures, talk when they aren't supposed to, etc. If I remember correctly, all the guardsmen are front-line active duty Army.

By the way this area is open to public to observe the palace dally workings (but it is technically not public grounds) as long as you do NOT interfere with those that work, use and are put in change of the security, upkeep etc etc and guarding of this area !! As this area is technically not public grounds; You see this area belongs to and is part of the palace grounds and that is not technically public, its private property / grounds (belongs to the monarchy ) and the guards are well within their legal right to tell you to f.. off from those grounds and get out of their way when they are conduction their daily duty ; infact hindering or disturbing those guards when they are conducting their duties is a crime; as they are the legal and lawful body for the security of the area by the right giving to them from the British monarchy; The monarch is the legal owner and has sole authority over that ground as the area belongs and is part of the palace .. So if they have to march across the area to conduct their gardening duties and you hinder them in doing so, that is in fact something you should strongly reconsider ; it's like hindering or interfering with a public official (or a police officer etc ) when they are in the process of conducting his / her duty its an offence and you can be arrested ...

Why do people find it so amusing when they come in contact with guards

I visited london a few months ago and got a chance to see the changing of the guard, they really arent toy soldiers or actors like some ignorant people belive, they are serious veteran soldiers and when a royal walks by even if its a little prince, they show proper respect and salute the kid. They are really professional and you can tell they are proud anf honored to be apart of the kings guard. Its really amazing to whitness.

Most people fail to realise that all of the guards are actual soldiers and not actors. They are all assigned to guard regiments in the British army and have been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq as well as a tonne of other conflicts over the years. People should take a look at what the Scots Guards did at mount tumbledown in 1982 👍

The British 1st Foot Guards, commanded by a Major-General Maitland, were lying down behind the ridge of Mont St. Jean, to shelter from French cannon-fire. As the Imperial Guard marched over the crest of the ridge, the Duke of Wellington famously shouted, “Now Maitland! Now’s your time!” Over 1,400 British Guards stood up, in a 250-metre-long firing line, and let off a devastating volley of musket fire. Combined with the firing and bayonet charges from other British regiments, this was too much for the Imperial Guard, and they retreated. The British Guards adopted their Bearskin hats as a trophy (initially the 1st Foot guards then the rest).

There is such a huge difference between two worlds: on one side, you have these two Guards, so elegant and smart in their beautiful uniforms, with discipline, sense of honor and duty. On the other side, inelegant people wearing torn off blue jeans, almost looking like beggars, showing no respect, no class, no culture, no nothing...

How old are you?

Those guards in their hobnail boots and bearskin hats do not mess around! I was visiting Windsor Castle many years ago, and without realizing it, stepped across a black line on the sidewalk. I think I was taking a picture of the guard. He scared the hell out of me when he stomped, yelled and pointed for me to get back across the line. I finished the tour on wobbly legs and frazzled nerves. :)

I don't understand why people are so ignorant. those guards are not toy guards in fancy clothes. those are fully trained british military men who have been on deployment in Afghanistan etc and can snap your neck in a nano second. They carry real weapons. They are there protecting the King and are allowed to kill you if you pose a threat to their monarch. These are real, fighting military men on the job. And the British military is one of the most impressive in the world. You need to respect them.

Why should they? Just get out of the damn way! We colour them red for a reason. Try f-ing around near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as a tourist in DC and find out how the honour guard there treat you. 👀

Arrogant? She was standing on a public highway/square and the two guards came charging towards her. I am not a monarchist but I have huge respect for all military personnel including these guards that I must say do draw in the tourists but how was she supposed to know they were going to walk towards her? Watch the video and it looks like the guards are walking all over the place.

@@tobeytransport2802 The guards have a set route - they are not all over the place. They have been telling everybody to make way (very loudly) yet the woman was not paying attention. There was no way you couldn't know where they were going.

They have a designated route and must not deviate from it for anything or anyone. They are soldiers not just a tourist attraction. They will defend the palace and the queen with their lives should they need to

Nah this definitely for show. Just to show that the guard are disciplined. There is no real benefit for guards to walk like robots shouting MAKE WAY and purposefully bumping into people

Some tourists don't appear to understand this is not Disney Land and the guards are not dressed up teenagers. This is real and our tradition

I remember years ago, there was a comedy sketch show where a guy was in the cinema and in the seat in front of him was one of these guards blocking his view with his hat. The guy tapped him on the shoulder and asked him if he could remove his hat. He did remove it but his head was the same size and shape inside 😂 I wish I could find that clip.

these are trained guards . their sole job is to protect the monarch . If you mess with them u best b prepsred to suffer the consequences . like either a knock down or an arrest by the police !
