I have so many fat quarters in my fabric collection and sometimes I wonder if I will ever use them all! If you are wanting a fast fat quarter busting pattern then this is the quilt pattern for you! Grab 12 fat quarters (or more if you want an even larger quilt) and you are off to the races!
I hope you enjoy sewing my Fallon's Fat Quarter Race pattern. It will be your go to for quick quilts. Think last minute gifts and charity quilts!
Use the #fatquarterrace on social media so I can see your beautiful quilts!
In this video I used the Sanctuary and Scandinavian Winter line of fabric for my quilts. You can find these exact bundles in my fabric shop here:

I used diagonal seam tape for that mitered edge. Find it here:

I have done jelly roll races in the past. I recently obtained 50 fat quarters at an estate sale. This is perfect! Glad I found your video! Thanks!

Thank you! 😊
I’ve made one so far. It was so rewarding. Not only is it easy but it’s also mindless,😂. Planning on doing another with a day of the dead strips. Not sure about the miter ends, I’ll see how you do it first before deciding. 😊

The mitered ends aren't too hard, but it definitely takes a little more time.
Ive done the jellyroll race, hadn’t even considered fat quarters. Will totally consider this when I need a quilt idea and have gone blank 😊
I love how you were able to bring it up a notch by varying the width of the strips and mitering the joins. Lovely. I will definitely be trying this one.

Thank you Kiki! I had so much fun making these!
I did make a jelly roll race quilt top but it is just a WIP 🚧 now. I should finish it… I love the fabrics you chose and I love the fact that your jelly roll race is really broken up because of the shortness of the fat quarters. I like that much better than the original way. It seems more pleasing to the eye. Thank you for the video and I’d love to see more.❤️
I was wondering about the two rows of diagonal seam tape. That’s a clever idea for sewing the second 1/2” seam. I love the two different widths of the strips.
What an Awesome idea!! I can’t wait to make one😊 Thank you for sharing!!

I like your version. I made one out of blue Jean strips and my husband white uniform pants. I backed it with flannel and made it for a bed runner.

Fast and beautiful!
Fallon, this is such a beautiful quilt. I love the mitered edges. I have a fat quarter bundle of Japanese fabrics that I think would work perfectly with this. Brilliant idea to use use fat quarters in place of the jelly roll strips. I’m looking forward to trying this. ❤

This is a great idea! You're so creative! I said a couple of years ago that you should go into quilt design, I was right. I always like the mitered look, but your straight method with your Scandinavian fabrics is so beautiful! It's perfect for that fabric. Thanks so much for sharing this. 😊

I love the jelly roll race and did it for a king sized bed. I did it in thirds. I love this idea, but especially love the different widths if strips you've used. I'll be making a few charity quilts again this year and this would be a perfect way to knock out more than normal. Not to mention knocking down some of my stash. Thanks Fallon!

I hope you have fun making this design!
If you cut off rectangles (you need 2 seam allowances together for the triangles) first from the ends of one stack of 2 1/2" strips, or just half of each stack , to make 2 1/2" hsts, 2×each, you could make hsts to put on the ends and get a straight edge, fancy joiner, and alternate the strip lengths as you sew, to make it more random. Cut one straight strip in half, put it on the other end of same one, andoff you go.
@sewbeitquilts

Great idea thank you!
I had the strips all cut out. Three weeks ago. I sat down today to finish the quilt but for some reason could not pull You Tube up on the computer in my sewing room. So I sewed the strips end to end but not 2.5" to 3.5" to 2.5 ". I sewed a 2.5" to a 3.5 twice and ended up with 2 2.5 " strips. At that I point quit sewing sewing for the day. I came upstairs and found you fine on this computer.. It is going to be interesting to see what I end up with. Not wrong just another variation of a fat quarter race.
Love this idea. I have “tons” of fat quarters that I need to use and didn’t want to spend too much time cutting. What was the dimensions of your quilt with the 12 fat quarters?
@sewbeitquilts

It was about 52-53" square for mine.

I was searching thru comments about the dimensions also !! Thanks Fallon for all the new quilts your sharing, loving them & hope to give them a try soon !! 😂❤
A pdf listing fabric quantities for end quillt sizes needed is something I would pay $$ for, hint hint, lol. Your varying the strip widths and staggered miters add pizzazz for fast stash quilts for gift or charity, IMHO. Thanks in advance if you do such a project.
I have done several jelly roll race quilts. Love the different widths you’re using. I’m not sure why but my eyes prefer the straight seams. But it does seem that most people prefer diagonal.
@sewbeitquilts
Жыл бұрын
It’s interesting how our eyes are all drawn to something different! The nice thing is the straight seam is so much easier to sew!
Can you tell me the finished dimensions on the quilt (without borders)? I’m looking forward to making this, thanks!

I'm new to this channel, and have only watched a couple videos. As much as I enjoy them, I'm not hearing what the finished size is when you get the tops done. I hope I didn't miss this information on both tutorials 🤞. Could you let me know the finished size on the race quilt? I'd love to try it ❤ Thanks so much

These look great! I was thinking of making a jelly roll quilt with yardage and then realized I have mostly fat quarters and not WOF 😅 How big are the finished quilt tops?
I noticed on the mitered corner quilt top, you cut the strips shorter. What size did you cut them?
Love the pattern using different sized strips. Where did you find your flat iron?

What size quilt do you get with 12 FQs? Id like to try this for Quilts of Valor but need it to be approx 60x80.
