    Did you do a French seam for the inner zipper pocket? Also on the inner zipper pocket if you top stitch down the 2 sides it would give you another pocket on the backside.

    Cool bag. I especially like how it opens up "completely" so stuff can be found easily. I agree with previous commenters that a few more close-ups would be helpful. Example: when you are sewing the zipper on the pocket and you describe where to sew and warn us about the possibility of breaking a needle but you don't show us. I sew clothes so I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about, but those who don't sew a lot of zippers might not. I haven't bought the pattern yet, but your verbal instructions are definitely going to make sewing this bag a lot easier than just following written directions. Thanks, Misty!!

    just a note for the next video. While I have made bags and used zippers... it can still be confusing. If you would say things like zipper right side up or face down on each section with a close up... instead of just assuming that we all know so you zoom through that part it would be a huge help. Even if the instructions say it... it would be helpful if YOU said it. Really cool bag, great use of fat quarters... just wish the zipper part was explained a bit better... Without this video visual, it can be hard to comprehend how complicated these little zippered bags can be to construct. (Imagine how tricky it was before the advent of the internet and KZread). If I were to make this bag, I would of course purchase the pattern and read it through. But I was just curious how that three-sided zipper was installed. It really relies on the shape of the fabric panels. Ingenious design! Thanks for this video, Misty, it really helps to show how complex yet doable this is to make! ~Diana K.

    I enjoyed this pattern…glad i made a practice one before making several as gifts. On the practice one, the second edge to sew, where the zipper pull will be when the zipper is closed, looks bad…the zipper teeth are not together. Not sure yet how to rectify this. Anyone?

  • @babeyruth1

    It was interesting to do, I love the inner pockets. I'm not too sure if I would use this pattern again, but I did learn new stuff. I also used a zipper by the yard, with a wide zipper. It seemed to create more bulk on the last step of adding the side panels, but my Bernina sewed through all of it with no issue.

    I just finished this bag. I thought it was fussy and difficult to make, particularly final steps of sewing the ends and adding the interior panel. Before I started this bag I would have said my sewing level was somewhere in an intermediate range. After sewing this bag, maybe I should downgrade to confidant beginner. I did add a fusible fleece to the exterior fabric and my coordinating zipper was only 22”. I think that made an already fussy bag downright irritable. I did not enjoy making this and don’t plan to make another. Kudos to Misty. She her tutorial was excellent and she made it look easy to sew!

    This is the second time I've watched this tutorial and I really want to make this bag. I'm wondering if the shape-flex is actually enough of a stabilizer or could we use some iron-on fleece. Honest opinion please and if you feel it would be too bulky in the seams or for the bag.

  • @BethMurphy-hv7ee

    @BethMurphy-hv7ee

    I wondered the same thing. I decided to add a fused fleece layer on top of the shape flex on the exterior fabric. The bag came out nice, but it was a huge struggle to construct the sides of the bag. Closing the ends if the bag and adding the interior side pieces was already difficult. I think adding the fleece increased the difficulty. I would not make this bag again, with or without fleece.

    I can't get my pattern to print the right size. My printer settings are "default," and the pattern prints WAY too big to fit on a fat quarter. I got it down to fit the fat quarter, but the bag turned out to be 9" x 5" x 5." On the pattern, there is no "match this 1" square to be sure you're printing the right size" kind of key or guide.

    I did get the pattern but I would rather have the larger pattern that you cut down. The one you have to up-size seems to have greater opportunities for major mess-ups. If you cut both large, you can trim one down. If you cut both small, you could easily be out of luck. You could have both in the digital pattern.

    Misty said in the video that you choose where to put the pockets.

    @@jacquiheasman2048 She said that about the mash pocket. The fabric pocket is sewn into the bottom seam.

    Quick question for anyone who has made this bag . . . Pattern calls for a 24" zipper, but it looks like Misty cut off a couple of inches on each end. Any way a 22" zipper would work, or does it take the full 24"? (The color I want doesn't come in 24")

    Yes I cut off about 2" at each end.

    I used a 22” zipper. I struggled with the bag in general. I think the 24” might be a little easier to work with.

    I love how you explain what you are doing, I just wish I could see better what you are doing. Especially when you are marking and again when you clip the zipper so that I have a better idea of how far to clip it.

    I agree, I think the colorful fabric confused me as she used 3 kinds. I plan on making this.
