    Saved by Jenny once again! I went to a Quilt class in Houston where we used Jelly rolls to make 13"x13"x18" (on bottom) triangles. Now I had to fill in the white part. UGH. Then I realized that I was supposed to take the white part and create a large half square triangle before putting it together...Thank you! Coming home to finish this with no direction, I was lost. Turned to this video and voila!! Thank you again Jenny....and it was great meeting you in Houston ( I know you don't remember, but I do!) :-) Carol

    Reminds me of a 9 patch block of flying geese. I tell you, those pinked edges that make one fabric square bigger than the other can really throw me off when I'm sewing blocks. I like this quilt, HST are amazing in how many different patterns you can get out of them. I really like the green bordered quilt and getting two quilts out of the 10" square packets is super!

  • @SmittenKitten.

    Agree about the pinked edges!!! I can never get a true 10" square out of most brands of layer cakes (I know the name "Layer Cake" is a Moda thing, but I'm using it generically.) If I need 10" squares, I always use yardage. :D

    I agree with you and Joyce ... I bought 5 packs of 5" that with pinked edges, I had 2 rows that were uneven!! I stripped and re-sewed again using the same 1/4" stitch (I measured the 5" squares and some of them were not a true 5" cut). I got so mad after trying twice to get the two rows even "didn't happen" I threw the whole mess in the trash. I will NEVER buy precut squares again. I can purchase the fabric & cut for a lot less than the precuts cost. I forgot to mention all the blocks were with 1/4" seams.

  • @SmittenKitten.

    @SmittenKitten.

    Anne Trenary I like buying charm packs if I know without a doubt I'm cutting smaller than 5", but agree with you that I'll NEVER purchase charm packs or layer cakes for exact 5-10" measurements. In the situation you described, I would have started crying first, THEN throw everything in the trash! :)

    Love this quilt! The pattern is fun, and the colors are gorgeous. I have a really hard time choosing fabrics that go together, so have bought lots of precuts. I recently won a package of green 1/2 square triangles that I may use for this. Being from northern California, I will probably donate the quilt to the victims of the recent fires that devastated the area. Our quilt shop is asking for donations of quilts that are twin size or bigger, and I think this one would be perfect if made a little larger. Thanks for the video. Terrific Tutorial Jenny!!! I'm always inspired by your creations! HST are a favorite of mine also when I use triangle paper or like the way you demonstrated here. PS I always trim my HST before sewing them together. Exact just doesn't happen for most people, so trimming helps the wonky ones - triangles I mean, not people! :-) Well there a few wonky people out there too I guess! HAha!

    I do like this quilt, so easy and so fast; however, I would like it a bit longer. If I add a row to the top and the bottom, that would probably be long enough. Depending on how I lay that row will depend on whether the middle would be repeated or not. I like quilts that are about 74 x 90 or so.

    Susan Nielsen Have a look at the Man Sewing channel for help with the quilting. He's got really good tutorials that talk you through it all - and Rob is very watchable and encouraging just like Jenny.

    For this quilt we used a stippling method (which Rob Appell of Man Sewing does have a tutorial of that) and as for the thread I believe that white thread was used throughout the whole thing! :)

    Thanks for your wonderful tutorials!! I love the pattern and the colors on the (2nd) green quilt. What are the fabric colors of the border and backing for the green (2nd) quilt so I can purchase them and get started making this beautiful quilt? Any recommendations for how to make it a larger size while keeping the same pattern? Thanks so much for all you do. I Look forward to your tutorials every week!

    That is the Jane. She is a straight stitch machine that sews 1500 stitches per minute! A great machine for semi - industrial sewing!

    Thank you for another amazing tutorial, Jenny! I have a bit of an odd question: on the left side of the video, on the shelf behind you when you sit at the sewing machine, there is a stack of 3 jelly rolls. I LOVE the colors in the bottom left one - the one that just has an elastic, no label. Can you please tell me what the name of that jelly roll is? I tried to find it on your website but nothing looks quite like it. Thank you!

    Hi Aerinah! It looks to be one of the Kona Cotton Roll Ups. Aren't the colors gorgeous? www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/browse/1018?&Product_Type=2.5%2522%2BStrips

    Who finishes up all the quilts you start in your tutorials!! Love your quilts. They are so pretty and geometrical. They don’t sell all those fancy cakes and rolls here. Would have to buy yardage!!☹️☹️‼️

    Just curious - do you think a placemat could be made from this block, by adding a border strip to each side? Or do you think they'd be too big?
