Triple Play: 3 New "Missouri Star" Projects with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star (Video Tutorial)
We have a new tradition here at Missouri Star: Triple Play! Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a favorite block, technique, or template. This week these talented Doan ladies are showing off three adorable quilts made with our beloved name sake: the Missouri Star block!
Jenny's "Mini Missouri Star" quilt is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Jenny's fabric is Prairie Dreams Layer Cake by Kansas Troubles Quilters for Moda Fabrics. She uses Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer A to trim her blocks with quick and easy precision.
Natalie's "Seeing Double" quilt is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes). Her fabric is True Kisses Tiles by Heather Bailey for FIGO Fabrics, and she also uses Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer A.
Misty's "Supernova" quilt is also made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Misty's fabric is Curiosity Batiks Stacks by Kate Colleran for Island Batik. Misty trims her blocks with the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer B.

I know this is an old video but I'm crying watching it. How nice to surprise Jenny with a quilt. Yes, us quilters love giving quilts to other quilters. ❤️
This is probably one of my favorite videos, because of the quilt Natalie and Misty gave Jenny!!
Quilters rarely receive quilts as gifts, and I bet that’s especially true for Jenny. What a great surprise, and what loving daughters! Another reason why we love you all!
Well, that made my eyes water...good job Misty and Natalie
While I was in the basement sewing my April pillow of the month, my sweet husband came down and said “you have a package from The Louisiana Quilt Company” . I said “do you mean Missouri Star”, “yes that’s it he said”. Phew, thank goodness. I thought you had moved south for a second!

Laura, I have two daughters. One does not even like quilts. The other one like to paints for her creative needs. So, having daughters does mean your will receive a quilt from a child. However, I have three granddaughters, 2, 4, 7. So maybe a granddaughter will make me a quilt? Although, I am 70 so I might be ancient when I receive it.

Dear Jenny, not only do we have quilting in common but we have wonderful children (and inlaws) in common. I am so happy for you and I know that you will truly enjoy your new quilt.

Oh my god, best Triple Play ever! Jenny being surprised was the best. Yes, even though of us who sew quilts and gift them, love getting them. Plus, the Missouri Star is pretty dang cool!
Wow, that's a great surprise for Jenny. I watch KZread back to back, so I see lots of the older videos. MSQC has come a long way not only in techniques but also in sewing areas and machines. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge . Very much appreciated. Xx❤
Hey Jenny I have a story for you about my journey. My mom called one day ....I think I was in my 20's and said the Community Education Department in the town we lived in was having a quilt class and would I like to go with her she would sign us up. "Yes " I replied then she said the patterns were a Dresden plate, Lover's knot and a log cabin pattern. There were 3 separate choices and the gal teaching the class was a member of our church whom we knew very well. I didn't really know anything at that point on quilting so I said you pick. When it came time for the class during the introductions.... Ann I will call the teacher laughed and said that we were the brave ones and had signed up for all 3 classes. I looked over at my mom and she was giggling. Oh my 3 quilts?!? I ended up making 2 baby quilts (lovers knot and log cabin) and a dresden plate wall hanging. It was alot of fun and I have since made more than 100 quilts I am sure. I give alot away and did I tell you she also taught me how to crochet too!!!!! MOMS.........

My Mom signed me up to spend the day weaving a basket. I now have a new respect for basket weaving. My hands were sore for days but I still think of Her every time I look at my basket.

What a beautiful tribute and gift made for Jenny. I cried too.
OMG Natalie!!! I did the same thing to my Mom decades ago with bits and pieces of a quilt that she started making when she was pregnant for me (I'm 68). I found it when she & I were looking for something in the attic for one of my kids. It was in a trunk and it was only about 1/2 finished. I went up to the attic one day when no one home, got all the pieces and put it together and finished it for her and gave it to her for Christmas that year. she was so surprised!

I can't express enough how much I enjoy Friday's with the three of you together. Another great triple play. Love all three projects and thank you for sharing the gifting of Jenny's quilt with us. So sweet!
I'm so glad that Natalie made her big stars out of that vibrant print! It's just fabulous!! 💖
Best surprise EVER! You gals are a treasure. The look on Jenny's face when she recognized the blocks was just beautiful! Happy tears here too 💖💖💖
Fantastic triple play ladies, & the girls brought tears to my eyes when they gave you the memory quilt of orphan blocks. What great hearts you all have. Love you to pieces.
I love when a pattern makes oversized blocks, or parts of blocks that get trimmed to be perfect.
Thanks for the Triple Play. Natalie and Misty that was a wonderful surprise and I did shed happy tears too.

Hi
Natalie, that peachy/orangey color is your color! You look beautiful tonight as does Jenny and Misty!!
I love all of your videos, but I think Triple Play is my favorite!!! So much fun to see how differently your minds work! The surprise for Jenny made me tear up...how sweet!
How special. Drinking my coffee and crying with you all so early in the morning. What a lovely gesture for a quilting mom to receive. God bless. Oh, and I love all the projects. You girls are so creative. 💕👏🏻
Thank you gals for showing us your wonderful “how to do it” demonstrations. It was an enjoyable video and the surprise quilt for beautiful Jenny along with the tears of joy will be remembered and treasured forever by all!
The perfect video to show the love and family of quilting. These blocks we make are not just scraps of fabric put back together. They are pieces of our hearts. That a quilt can bring one to tears speaks volumes. Like you said, some of those blocks were made by people now quilting in heaven, because of this quilt, they will be with you forever.
Made me cry happy tears! Way to go, girls!

Me, too. My eyes misted up because you KNEW it was truly a surprise. Such wonderful, beautiful, genuine women! THANK YOU!!!
What a beautiful gift and just before Mother’s Day!!
How sweet! I'm in tears 😢 .you guys are amazing ❤
Great Hair Day! Great Quilt Day! Great Daughters Day! Jenny, you hit the jackpot. Could you make a Quilt of Valor out of Misty's quilt using red, white, and blue? I think I would put the big star on the left corner, use a few blue pieces near the big star, and then use red for rest of the tumbled print pieces to make it look like the American flag. Long may she wave! By the way, does anyone else see the "face" on the dark greenish-blue fabric that Misty cuts at the beginning of her section? Two eyes and a nose...
Well. I bet I wasn’t the only one with tears in my eyes! What a beautiful and utterly natural moment. Jenny, you were the person who really got me into quilting about 8 years ago and Triple Play has just deepened my love of all things quilty. Just gorgeous xxx
Loved the surprise quilt from Natalie. Great job Natalie!
Awwwwwwwwe, It’s So Special that Jenny was given a quilt during the show, so sweet and thoughtful ! Thank you for sharing that with all your viewers 🥰💖🥰 Beautiful Quilts Girls ❤️🥰❤️ My Very Best to You All, Chris-Raleigh NC
Love the quilts and It was so touching to see the love between you all. A beautiful gift from the heart!
Since I was a little girl, I wanted daughters but ended up with 5 sons. I am blessed with a great relationship with them. Watching you three allows me to see what it would have been like if I had had daughters. We are all really blessed.
What a wonderful surprise!!! Love you girls together! ❤️❤️❤️
Very happy looking quilt Nat! Beautiful job ladies!♥🐢
Love that the girls surprised you!
Would you all be willing to do a video with more info on the quilt you gifted Jenny? I would love to see more of it and learn a little about each of the blocks! I’m sure I’m not the only one 🙂

Happy tears here too. Beautiful surprise. Well done girls.
Gorgeous quilts!! Absolutely wonderful surprise quilt!! ❤️❤️❤️
I love 💗 how Natalie and Misty have become such naturals in front of the camera. They sew faster with such ease. Thank you ladies for all you do to help inspire us. 😍 Your quilts are so beautiful. They did a beautiful job on your gifted quilt 💕
Something for everyone. I like how you have one traditional quilt, Natalie's colorful more modern quilt, and how Misty thinks outside the box and gets "artsy", all with the same block. Thank you so much for you Triple Play tutorials.
Natalie I love your top. Great projects ladies, thank you.
The reason MSQC speaks to our hearts was evident today when Jenny got her "blanket of love" from Nat and Misty. As a mom who has made quilts for kids and grand kids, other peoples kids and their kids, I know how preciuos those quilts are. My kids have very quilt I have ever made from them, some are in tatters, but they keep them. It's all about family. I love it! Good job at the surprise, I had a tear in my eye, too.
The filming on this episode was so perfect. I felt I was standing right in front the table. And the ladies were personally helping me learn this technique. What a sweet moment when Jenny received her quilt from Natalie and Misty.
I ❤❤❤ Triple Play Day! I adore stars, HSTs, color, and watching you three have lots of fun! Thank you for being my sewing friends once a month and starting my day with a huge smile. Enjoy your quilt, Jenny!
Oh!! What a great way to surprise Jenny with a beautiful quilt finished from her spare blocks. Great job girls. All quilts were amazing. 👍🇦🇺
This is one of my FAVORITE triple play episodes! 👍🏻👵🏻💕
Oh my gosh. What a wonderful family moment and seeing all of your love for each other is so beautiful to see. Love you ladies.
I just rewatched this. It warms my heart to see Jenny so touched by the quilt the girls made her. Even though I create a lot of projects I love a handmade gift from my girls. ❤️
Good morning every one, Thank you for Triple Play. I look forward to each one. Thank you
Loved Jenny's surprise. How wonderful to know that even after having made so many quilts, a gift quilt can touch her. Nice tutorial. I like the triple play format once/month.
