*We’re celebrating 15 years of patchwork paradise with 15 of our most beloved patterns. This week’s remake is Goodnight Irene.*
Once upon a time, Jenny spotted a beautifully intricate quilt hanging in a quilt shop. "I bet I can make this with precuts" she thought. And so she did, and it was an instant classic. 12 years later, Jenny's remaking that gorgeous quilt-with a few extra tricks she's learned along the way. Goodnight, Irene is made with precut charm squares, X's and O's blocks, and scrappy 4 patches. For this tutorial, Jenny is using darling camp-themed prints from Live Love Glamp by Dani Mogstad for Riley Blake Designs. (Watch to the end for a bonus "burrito" pillowcase demo. It's quick to make, and so pretty!)

I am so grateful for you making quilting so approachable all those years ago. Your tutorial’s are what made me have the confidence to sew a quilt when I was a new mom. Now I’m obsessed till this day.
The quilt is beautiful but more stunning is Natalie. You look amazing.
I love how Natalie smiles at her mother!

This is my quilt project this coming week! I have everything to get started! We are going on vacation! There is some activities that the family is going that I will have trouble going to. Hotel room and pool with hot tub for me! Plus cutting up the quilt to sew when I get back home.
Sewing with Jenny would bee stressful and so joyful in the same time for me ❤😂

Thank you for the pillow case tutorial. It’s awesome. I don’t know but every time I watch your tutorials, it makes me feel like I can do it because of how effortlessly you make it look.
LOVE this quilt! It's my 'go to' when I need to use up scraps... and I've made TONS of pillowcases using your EASY tutorial.. thank you

Love this quilt. You could also make with a jelly roll
We love Jenny and Natalie!
Fantastic looking quilt. Ladies, you made it look so easy. I love the pillow case tutorial, so easy. Definitely going to give it a try.
The quilt is very cute!! The pillow cases are darling!! Thank you Jenny and Natalie!!
I love this pattern. Want to make it with bright squares on a black background…woohoo
I made a Goodnight, Irene and I made my 4 patches exactly like you. It was so easy. Thanks for the tutorials. ❤
I love this quilt!! It looks so complicated but it’s not!! Thank you Jenny & Natalie! 😍
Natalie and Jennie, you are a wonderful tag team. I'm adding the four patch method to my skill set. THANKS SO MUCH‼️ Your friend from New Mexico, Carla 🎶 💖 💐.
I love your mother-daughter relationship! Ya'll are such good examples and sew much fun to watch❤
LOL😂! Jenny is so talented - & skilled, too! I mean seriously - how many people can lick there finger and talk at the same time while doing the prep work for a fabulous Quilt?! Who doesn’t love these ladies!❤
What a beautiful and fun quilt tutorial. Loved the fabric. It would go well in our camper too! Cute pillow cases and easy to make. Thanks Jenny and Natalie! 💖💖💖
I am definitely making this for myself…my name is IRENE! Love your easy tutorials! Natalie is my kind of gal, so sweet & helpful!
I have made many pillowcases for my family. At Christmas, I made the grandchildren a themed pillowcase and a book that went along with the pillowcase. Thank you, Jenny and Natalie!
Beautiful quilt and the way you work through it together makes me believe I can make it too. Thank you from a new quilter in England 😊
I haven't been able to watch in a while - love the new jingle! And the video, too, of course.
Thanks to your chandalier tutorial I saw a year ago, from then on I was hooked. Had never sewn before. But I have now completed 11 quilt tops. Which is a big accomplishment living in a 40' converted skoolie!

Oh my goodness. You must be very efficient and strong! My apts have always been turned into sewing studios as I kept requiring more space.😂
I love this quilt and I make a pillowcase for every quilt with leftover fabrics to store the quilt in. That way I know what quilt is inside.
Beautiful Quilt ! It looks so hard but you have made it look so simple !!❤
In the recent past I made a stack of pillow cases and donated them to our community emergency services. A fun stress reliever for frightened children. I just used left over fabric, mixed and matched. 😊
OMG! I love that you did your pillowcase. I have your tutorial from the past in my history and my LIKED videos, when you used 3 Sisters fabric. How funny!😉 Thanks for doing this again. Love the quilt pattern. Now I can use my charm packs! 🤩
Beautiful quilt ; I had the privilege of visiting Hamilton and the Missouri star quilt company last month . I was like a kid in a candy store .I had the prof meeting your two grandsons and had my picture taken with them .
I’ve watched you do the four patch last year? That how I always do this way. Thank you again . Would love to do this pattern!🇨🇦
It’s a great quilt pattern and I love your four patch hack. I do scratch my head at American pillowcases though LOL. I so want to teach you how to make Australian style pillowcase where the burrito method can still be used for the decorative bit but the pillow won’t fall out because it’s enclosed inside…

What a great quilt pattern and double bonus pillowcase. Thank you, ladies ❤❤
Goodnight Irene is one of my all-time favorite patterns, so it was lovely to see an update, but the pillow case? WOW! Genius tutorial! Can’t wait to make a few. 😍😍😍
I’ve made this quilt twice and just love the pattern I might make it again. My first one I used flannel (it’s my go to winter quilt). The second one I used Deer Christmas by Urban Chic and used the big deer panel for the backing. I just love both of my quilts. Everyone looks at it and thinks they were hard to make quilts but they are not. Thank you Jenny for your wonderful quilt patterns.
Thank you for making this so easy 😊
Great tutorial!!! Thanks for keeping us busy with fun quilts to make!
That could be a great leader/ender scrap buster!
Drove out to Hamilton yesterday!! Got to meet Sara’s Jason in the Vintage store. What a good young man. Got to make a quick trip back before we head back to Florida. The retreat building was busy with sewing machines at full throttle. Just wish I could have had a Jenny hug. I even told Jason the story about my first meeting with Jenny. It’s been 4 years since we have gotten to come home. Oh! Please have someone put up a sign at the red light to take a left or right to get back on 36. DETOUR!!! Loads of love.
That’s a good way to make 4 patches.
Love you gals!!! You make my life so much brighter in this dark world. Thank you for all you do to make quilting fun. Natalie you look wonderful! Wish I could lose some pounds.
Maybe someday I'll be able to look at quilts and realize they're not as hard as they seem! Thank you for all your great tutorials.
Thank you so much for both the quilt and pillowcase - I’ve been wanting to just make some pillowcases out of fun fabrics for my 4-year old granddaughter but can never seem to remember how to do it! (I’m getting old!!!)
Thank you so much for adding the quilting name used. So many KZreadrs leave that off. I say “so you are just making a quilt top” I love information from start to completion. Thank you again ❤
I love this tutorial and the fabric is so cute. Thanks for sharing your easy pillowcase. I had forgotten how easy you make it with the flange. Natalie’s face just shines now. The two of you on the video together is so cute!! Love it1
I’m making this right now with scraps and white and I already know it’s my new favorite quilt. And I’m not a scrappy kind of girl. The white X makes all the difference.
I have been looking at all my scraps and I think I am going to start cutting them all in 5” squares and making blocks with them. I think I may do this instead of 9 patches. I have loved this since Jenny first made it!
I love this pattern. Made a memory quilt from my mom's homemade dresses using this pattern. I love making matching pillowcases for my quilts using this method and a French seam.
I am so happy to see this tutorial. I saw this pattern❤ last year and decided I wanted to make it. It was so pretty and looked simple enough. Unfortunately it was on another quilting channel and they didn’t make their squares like you all. Started making squares and was so confusing the way they did them. I now feel like a dummy after seeing how simple you all make it. Starting all over now and already can tell this is going faster than before. I’ve been a follower since you began years ago when I first became a grandmother and my daughter wanted me to make her baby a quilt. Thank you Jenny and family for helping quilters with your down to earth and easy methods. You make it so much more fun. Happy 4th of July!
I love this! I thought it looked hard at first but now I’m confident to make it!
The pillowcase makes a great storage case for the quilt!

Love this ladies. Natalie your gorgeous. Smile says feeling wonderful. Not sure on the quilt for the holidays but the pillow cases be great for granddaughter. Daughter had panrcatic cancer. So an helping on this journey. I go to her and take her to chemo. We made thru the first six. And she's doing good. Even with emergency hernia surgery 2 weeks ago
Jenny, love that border idea, it just makes the quilt! Genius, as usual. Hope you are feeling better. Love this whole team, thank you for all your hard work all the time.
Wow, that was the fastest 16 block ever!
I made a pillowcase to match their quilt for each of my granddaughters. They love them! I watched Jenny's original burrito pillowcase tutorial. Thanks!
I had never seen the 4-patch made like this!!! I have so much red, white and blue scraps left over from previous projects that I can’t wait to make one of these quilts!! Thanks for this valuable lesson!!
What a fun pattern! I never would have thought of making one. Your tutorial takes the scariness out of it. 😊 I also love the pillowcases. 😁
I really love watching you and your girls. I have learned so much from you. All three of you are wonderful teachers, and so talented. You are superstars.
I love this quilt so much! I'm making one for each of my husband's siblings, in memory of my mother-in-law, Irene.
This quilt has been on my to do list for quite a while, thanks for the reminder! That pillow case is adorable and so easy!
No way that pillow case was that easy. Thank you.

It really is, I’ve done them.
You two are so cute together.... has anyone ever said it's like watching family😊 oh, and absolutely adorable quilt and case!
I’ve made pillows using this technique and they turn out wonderful.
I love that you made pillowcases for the quilt. I make them for every quilt I make. If it's for a baby or child I do just one and larger ones get two. Even if the case doesn't get used I present the quilt inside it. Also most quilts are not meant to or are impossible to make long enough to fold up over the pillows like a bedspread so having matching useable pillowcases is a good sub for stupid shams that require extra pillows and somewhere to put the dang things when you want to go to bed. Can you tell I don't care for extra pillows just to look at?
@sunshineandwarmth

I know, Jeanne, extra pillows ARE such a bother unless you have an easy chair or a cedar chest in the room to toss them on. Idk why I never thought to make pillowslips to match my quilts bc i have made pillowslips otherwise. I guess I've either had my fabric come in a kit or just ordered the amt as directed in the pattern. I could make "scrappy" till the cows come home but I've rarely had yardage since I quit making clothes & took up quilting. Anyway, I'll try to keep that in my head for the next shopping trip.😁🙋♀️
Very clever combo of blocks. Beautiful quilt Jenny 💗🇦🇺
I have always loved this pattern!! It works especially great with a charm pack (or jelly roll) from a fabric collection with almost no “light” in the prints, so you get all colours contrasting against the light background. Batiks would be a great collection to work with. Thanks Jenny & Natalie for a fun quick tutorial!
One of my favourite scrappy quilts. I made mine with orphan jelly roll strips.
P.S. Natalie, You look beautiful! I am so proud of your dedication to yourself & your family. You are definitely beautiful🤗
So cute. We used to love camping but now have a lake cottage. I still miss trailering so must make this quilt! Thanks ladies.
Love to see the two of you ladies create together. Your personalities are happy and fun. So it's a pleasure watching you. Love this pattern by the way. And the pillowcase is a great bonus. Thanks ladies. Take care and blessings to ya'll.
I have never seen a four patch sewn that way!! Wow, I have a new way to make them. Thanks!!!
Wow that’s pretty 🎉❤❤❤❤happy birthday to you both 😉
Love this quilt and pillowcase. It makes a great set! I had to look at the pillow cases on my bed, they are surged.
I’ll have to add this to my ever increasing list of quilts to make.
Thank you so much, I love this quilt and plan to start Sunday afternoon (already told my friend)..If is turns out to my liking it will come your way to long-arm..Glad you are feeling better. I must mention I always enjoy Natalie ! Thanks again.
This quilt design is one of my favorites! I love making pillowcases too!
I bought this pattern, prior to watching your tutorial. It IS easy!! How fun. 🎉 * and YES, I enjoy making a pair of pillow cases for wedding gifts. This Burrito pattern looks so professional, when you sew French Seams on the top & side seams. 😂❤😊😊
Awesome quilt, but I love Natalie’s reaction to the pillow case priceless!!!
I haven't tuned in to MSQ on KZread for awhile. This was a fun video and lovely quilt. AND Natalie, you look fantastic 🤩. Thanks for the video 😊
I love your videos! Natalie…you look amazing!
I love making the pillow cases to match the quilt I always do a French seams! Love you all thanks again for another great tutorial😍
Love, Love, Love the quilt pattern! And I really loved watching you two together💕 I hope and pray you are feeling better and that no one else has gotten sick in your precious family. Thank you for all you teach us! You make everything so much easier!
I love this 4 patch method, I remember when you taught it years ago and I am still using it! Thanks,
It’s great when you remind us of the beautiful quilts you have made before 👍 This one is gorgeous 🤩 Thanks for sharing 👏👏🇬🇧
I have made this quilt twice from my scraps and love them! Hurray for cute, easy pillowcases!
As always, you present quilting as easily do-able! 15 years of wonderful tutorials that encourage sewers to try more than they might, if not for your easy to follow tutorials that make quilting look easy! Thank you Jenny, Natalie & all @ Missouri Star! Y’all are Sew Awesome!
Thank you lovely quilt qnd pillow covers
Cute quilt! I going to make this one from scraps!
I made this loved all the 4-patches and Hatchet blocks. I used my collected Siggies for my Quilt.
I love this one, too! I did it in a scrappy orange and black for my daughter’s table. Love the pillow case too! Happy quilting! 🧵
❤I’ve been happily waiting for this tutorial ever since Mr. Ron announced it earlier this week! I watched the early version tutorial right after the announcement and loved the blocks. 😊❤
I have to give that pillow case a try. My brain says that won’t work, but Jenny says it will. I believe in Jenny. Lol. I think I just might give the quilt a try too. Almost all my quilts I make have been from Jenny’s tutorials. I love Jenni style of teaching. Thanks for all you do. You have made me a much better quilter.

Yes the pillowcase is that easy. I like to do the French seam, an extra step but gives a nice finished seam that will never fray out. I’ve made many of them for donation and when I do a baby quilt I like to do a small pillowcase to match if I have enough fabric. A small travel size pillow works great for when baby is old enough for it.
i love your method for making scrappy 4-patches!!
Jenny! The quilt is Adorable But the pillowcase process is Brilliant!🎉🎉🎉
What a fun way to make a 4 patch. Thanks for the tip.
I love that Jenny gives us “optionable!” She's awesome!😂❤❤❤❤❤
I sure enjoy watching the two of you sew together. Thanks so much for listening to us concerning the lighting on your set. It is so much better. Thanks again. It's much appreciated.
Thank you so much for showing us the awesome quilt and thank you for the pillow case ❣️🪡🧵✂️💖❤️💓💗
Love the pillow case. To he quilt is so pretty too. Just might be one to do for my camper. ❤
I can see you could use a jelly roll very easily. Love this pattern! When I first saw it I thought no way could I do this quilt. I have a lot of Jelly Rolls so going to try and see what happens! Wish me luck as I am a beginner and not great at designing!
I like to do a top stitch at the cuff seam to anchor the cuff.
