Triple Play is a favorite tradition here at Missouri Star Quilt Company. Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own unique spin on a favorite block, technique, or template. In this episode, the talented Doan ladies show off three fabulous new quilts made with the Fence Rail quilt block.
Jenny’s Fancy Fence Rail quilt is made with precut jelly roll strips and layers of decorative borders. Her fabric is Adel in Summer by Sandy Gervais for Riley Blake.
Misty’s Wildflower Pillow and Quilt is made with the Drunkard’s Path template and 10″ layer cake squares from Anew by Tamara Kate for Windham Fabrics.
And Natalie’s Floral Fence Rail quilt is a bundle of fun with fence rails, flying geese, applique, and big stitch embroidery. Her fabric is Brave 10" Squares by Anna Maria Horner for FreeSpirit Fabrics.
UPDATE: Pattern says that you should cut the blocks 4 inches, not 4.5 inches.

Natalie you look so good! I love when you and Misty join Jenny on the show!! I'm going to make Jenny's quilt for my grandson. I think the fence rail will be perfect with Wilmington Magic Colors. Cheers! ~M
for some reason KZread stopped sending me notices of the triple play videos. When I realized I haven't seen on in awhile I was terrified you had stopped doing them, so I went to your playlist page and was so happy to find a couple I had missed and that you are still doing them. I love them
I would really like to see Natalie do more quilts with appliqué and embroidery! I’ve never learned embroidery, but would love to add that skill to my repertoire! Please and Thank You! ❤

I second that!
Beautiful quilts and fresh ideas. I’ve been looking for an idea for a wall quilt and love your quilt Natalie. I could kick myself, I just gave away a few of those Daisy Kingdom cut outs. Thank you again 😊
I think I’ve left this comment before but just have to say it again. First of all I love all of the quilts in this triple play video. The colors really speak to me. Jenny seems to create traditional designers, Misty tends toward the modern and Natalie shows her true artist heart in her designs. I love the idea of a little embroidery on Natalie’s quilt. I will be incorporating it in my next quilt and wall hanging. A true piece of art.
As a teacher I just want to thank you for showing everyone that there are many ways to do math. I love the triple play and how you three discuss the different ways you see the patterns or how each one of you would have put things together. I love how you tell everyone that there is no permanent way to do things, just the way that works for YOU. THANK YOU LADIES, YOU ROCK! You are great teachers!
All three of these are wonderful, but I am so inspired by Natalie's artistic take on it I want to turn that into a king size quilt with basically 4 panels that are set so the fence rail part is in the four corners and it ends up with a large floral medallion in the middle. I think I FINALLY have a plan for the quilt for my bed!
All of these are wonderful! I think Natalie’s would look great as a “panel” in a quilt!
Natalie is so creative! I love when she makes the quilt her own! Congratulations- fabulous quilt!!😻👍
Thank you for resolving the black screen at the end of the first video. It was great to see Natalie finish the embroidery she was doing and the closing of the show. I truly enjoyed today’s tutorial. Thanks, Jenny, Natalie and Misty!💖💖💖
I love that Jenny changed it up with the borders. Brings a whole new vibe to the fence rail quilt. Thank you!! Great video.
For a simple rail fence these projects were all sooooo cute!! I love the way Jenny repeated the block cuts for the border and fabric was so cute. I also love the design Missy did - it was so clever using the circle template to make the block look so unique. My favorite was Natalies cute, cute, wall hanging - I cant wait to try it with simple rail fence blocks and flying geese were so colorful, but I loved the simple applique to finish the design - very pretty, I intend to make for my sewing room - thank you!!!Bev
All beautiful, but Natalie, yours stands out as an art piece. Simply gorgeous! Thank you ladies!
Thank you for fixing the glitches. So nice to see Natalie’s to the end. I really like ALL of these projects.
Oh my goodness. That quilt is absolutely beautiful you made. I have all kinds of fabric. It is different color fabric but it is pretty color also. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Now I am going to watch the rest of the video. Oh my Natalie's and Misty's are beautiful. Like I said all 3 are so pretty.
Natalie is so creative. You’re looking great Natalie. You’re inspiring 😊
Natalie, I see a future BOOK from you! Love your teaching and inspiration.
My Goodness! Which one do I make first? So beautiful! Misty’s flower reminds me of a butterfly! Thank you Jenny, Natalie, Misty, & MSQC! You are so sweet & wondeeful❤️🧵🪡
Jenny, you’ve so patiently taught me. Love your tutorials and love the way your personality comes through.
Natalie you ARE LOOKING GREAT !!!!!!
Oh my goodness, these are so lovely! I love drunkard path quilts and now have been inspired. Also love the small quilt. I need to make this for my front door. All are lovely. Great job, again, ladies!
Love all 3 of these. Natalie's has inspired me to combine my quilting love with appliqué and embroidery. Thanks.
Love these! Like the way Natalie used hand and machine. I want to make all three of these projects!
I love the three very different ways to use the fence rail block. Sew very creative.
The ladies are standing on each side of you with the same color blouse on I know not on purpose 😂 both leaning to the side looking at you . I was waiting for a dance and a snap of the finger doo wop tune so cute. Lovely you just gave me a really fun challenge for our guild. Thanks for the fun video.
Oh that’s so much better, thank you for doing the demonstration straight on instead of in the corner, love your quilts, you are all so talented 🩷💛💚
Triple Play is my favorite Missouri Quilt tutorial and this one is fabulous❣️I’m going to share it with my quilt group. I cannot even pick a favorite from the three and I think I need that ruler set that Misty used and I love the creativity of Natalie’s piece. And, by the way Natalie, you look so healthy. Thank you all for your informative, interesting, creative tutorials.
All beautiful ladies & quilts, but Natalie...WOW! Colors and assymmetry🌸🩵🌺🎉
Oh my Natalie, I love the broderie perse and hand stitches... my nanna also did embroidery/crewel work. This is so stonkingly beautiful. I love the bright and joyful colours. They are all so beautiful, so different, so much talent.🎉🎉🎉 hugs all
Jen's quilt reminds me of a licorice alsorts. Fun and delicious 😅
Love ❤ Natalie’s wall quilt so much. All three quilts on this episode are quilts I would make. Love them all!
Instead of cutting the layer cake into 1.5 inch strips and then sewing them together; I take two layer cake right sides together and stitch down one side and lay my ruler at an inch and a quarter on my stich line and cut once. Then I mix up the fabric and repeat. I press each set open and then sew two sets together. I find that my finished blocks are straighter and more uniformed.
Jenny'@ quilt might just be the happiest quilt I've ever seen. Can hardly wait to make one!
Im totally in love with Natalie's cute little quilt !! Love the material and her applications. ❤❤❤❤😮
I wish the sound was better on this video today. Must have been a fluke it's usually perfect. Great quilts. I really loved Misty's!

Loved all of the quilts! They are all beautiful! Want to give a shout out to Natalie for always having unique, unconventional, beautiful quilts. She really thinks outside of the box.
I loved them all. Nat I loved yours . The castle I am sure was unintentional. Step back and look castle in the front and the coach in the background . The fabric lends itself to creation of what I see. Great work as always ladies
Thank you for reshowing this video! (Volume still to low) but yeah, got to see to the end!
Girls, you have made some beautiful quilts! I love all three of them; the fabrics you have chosen are wonderful, colorful, fresh and summery. Thank you! Martha

I really appreciated your efforts to think outside the design box, so to speak! We’ll look forward to more of your creativity.
You ladies looked wonderful all co-ordinated with the fabric & each other! Great video thank you.😘
You’re right. You three hit it out of the park. Since Natalie said her “list” wasn’t long, I want to be on it too! I make charity baby quilts/adult lap rugs & love how your patterns can be adapted. It’s such fun to me to watch how your different hearts/minds use the same basic pattern/s & come up w such variety. I watch y’all w my morning coffee each Friday. Thanks.
I just loved all of these quilts. Natalie you look great.
Is been 15 years 🎉❤guau time fly love your tutorials
Thank you so much ladies. Each of the quilts are beautiful and bright and happy ❤️
All your fabrics are soooo bright & pretty! All the quilts are gorgeous!
Natalie, you look fantastic! Congratulations!! Love the wall hanging really cute idea… and inspiring. Misty, you challenge us with this pattern… I’m thinking spring colors… so it’s on the back burner, but I might try the pillow with “left over” Christmas fabric. Jenny, you made that “complicated “ quilt easy! Again!!!
Natalie, you look fantastic! Love triple play day
I love Natalie's quilt. It looks so happy.
Jenny you are the fastest stitcher!
It's so nice to see how happy Natalie is. She found her joy!
The last quilt I made is like Jenny's (minus the squares on point) and I hadn't come across this tutorial yet. So cute
Natalie loved you quilt/artwork. Great work. 🇦🇺❤️
Natalie, I love ... love ... love your wall hanging. Thank you for your creativity!
Whar a wonderful triple play! I love all three. You each took the rail fence to another level. 🎉❤😊
Love, love, love it! Such a simple, standard block with a lot of interest added, to knock it out of the atmosphere! Great job MSQC! We can always count on you for fun mixed in with color! Great job. Happy sewing 🧵.
Well, aren't those quilts just too cute! The fence rail pattern seems to be what I always end up using on most of my quilts, so these will give me a few different variations of how to incorporate the pattern now.
Been sewing with all of you for so long “Thank You So Much”. ❤❤
I loved all the quilts but the quilt that really spoke to me was Misty’s. It looks absolutely beautiful and really complex. Natalie is so creative and looking really glamorous
You 3 - out did yourselves !
I love all three quilts! Each is so different from the others. You are all very talented.
Thank you all. I want to make all three. Natalie yours is amazing.
These are fun to watch. I adore that floral one!
Really liked this one, especially natalies. Beautiful.
How inventive!!! You guys are so talented!! And the ending photos of the projects in use was such a great idea!! I’m wondering -what if -Jennie’s quilt would have looked even cuter if the edges had been scalloped!
Natalie I love your little hanging quilt, it would make a quick and beautiful gift.
Fabulous ... I love all three quilts!!! You are amazing beautiful (in all ways) women ... thanks for all you share!! Kindest regards.
Thanks to all three of you for such a delightful mixture of rail fences! I appreciate learning the thought process behind your design decisions.
All three quilts were equally pretty! I wish I had time to sew up them all-thank you for the great tutorial. 🌷🌷🌷
I have always loved the Fence Rail design. It was the first quilt I made and it is still my favorite. I love all three quilts in this video, especially Jenny's fancy version. I am definitely going to give it a try.

Just what I was looking for! I've been contemplating my next project and I found 3!!! Thanks ladies, I'll probably attempt all 3 in the order I watched them 😀
Natalie. You are looking fabulous!
Beautiful quilts. I love how you all have different ways of making your designs so different, fabulous. Thank you.
Natlie, you look wonderful. Keep up the good work!
Love the quilts. ❤❤❤❤. Put them in your triple play book.
I really like each of these projects because the rail fence is made with 2,3,or 4 strips. Thanks for the inspiration!
You three look so pretty in pink. Love the quilts and how you make them look so easy.
I recently bought a layrer cake & wasnt sure what i had planned fot it so i went through the videos/patterns i have to see what i could come up with to use this layer cake. It is called 'shattered'. The colors are nice but its a textured color on color. Not a normal print. They are rather 'plain' looking. I finally settled on the fancy rail fence. I cut the layer cakes in various sized strips 1 1/2"- 2 1/2" sewed 5 or 6 different colored strips together to make 6 1/2" blocks. I will follow instructions in the tutorial for the remaining steps including all 3 borders & outside border. I plan to use regular prints for outside border & backing . Not sure of color yet.
You are all looking amazing!
Missy, I love your nail color!!! ❤❤❤
Patriotic is my favorite and I am ordering. But would have lost my mind without seeing your ckear demonstration. Thank you!
All three are fabulous
