Make a Round Robin "Sparkling Stars" Quilt with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star (Video Tutorial)
Triple Play is a favorite tradition here at Missouri Star. Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a favorite block, technique, or template. In this episode, the talented Doan ladies are using the Round Robin technique to build one BIG quilt. They're calling it Sparkling Stars, and it sure is pretty!
Jenny designed the center of the quilt with easy 9-patches and half-square triangle lemoyne stars, Misty added a pretty layer of quarter-square triangles and sawtooth star blocks, and Natalie finished it off with a gorgeous pieced border.
This quilt was made three different times with three different fabric lines, and it's so fun to see how different each quilt came out:
Jenny's quilt: "Holiday Charms" by Studio RK for Robert Kaufman
Natalie's quilt: "Made My Day" by Anna Maria for Free Spirit Fabrics
Misty's quilt: "Gingham Foundry" by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake Designs

Natalie's border is amazing....love it.
I love blue and yellow! I wouldn’t generally pick bold colors & prints, but the fabric Natalie used was gorgeous. I need to get out of my comfort zone! Three beautiful quilts! Natalie, you look so pretty in that shade of blue. Love your wavy hair!
Natalie's fabric is awesome! I am amazed how you gals can sew without pins and turns out perfect.
I love stars, love Natalie’s border and all three variation of fabrics. I can’t even pick a favourite because I love all three. Triple Play is my favourite video of the month. It’s fun watching the three of you working together to create your own cute quilt.
Can I just say Natalie has the best smile! Merry Christmas ladies, you are all everlasting gifts
All three fabric options are great but I really love Natalies fabric choice the best. And I love her "borders"
I use lots of gold Glide in my longarm, love Glide. Such a pretty Christmas quilt.

Peggy S Thank you for mentioning the Glide thread. I was needing that reference.
You ladies are always winners in my book, but if I declared a winner in this Triple Play, Natalie’s choice of color and design rocks!!
I enjoy seeing what this wonderful ladies make.
Spectacular, Natalie"s is so colorful....congratulations to my three favorite art engineers.
I really love the way you all work together as it really shows the love you have for each other. What a joy.
Love Natalie’s new hair style she looks so much younger. Beautiful 🤩
Love all 3 but the one I like most is Natalie’s. Great colors! Congratulations Natalie
Super quilt. Love this and all color ways. Fun!
I love watching you girls work together. I really love the quilt.
I just love Natalie’s fabric. So very pretty 🥰
No, don’t stop! (~minute 11). I love watching you work as a team!
I LOVE Misty’s color choices! I love a blue and yellow combo!
I love them all so much. What beautiful quilts and so much easier to do than it looks. You all sparkle with how much fun you have and your beautiful smiles.
So good to see fabric off the bolt being used. Kindest regards to everyone on this channel from Australia.
Wow I love Natalie’s fabric. Winner, winner.
Round Robins are so much fun! Thank you for sharing yours!
Gorgeous pattern!
I love this quilt design!!! I truly appreciate the different choices in fabrics. Please do many more Round Robin's 💗💗💗 You three ladies do a wonderful job.
I enjoy your triple play episodes the most. I switched out the nine patch block for a block of scrappy flying geese rows of seven, five, and three, inspired by Natalie's geese in the pins and paws triple play. Thank you for all the fun.
They are all absolutely beautiful.
Your tutorials are the best. I recently made two quilts with this pattern. One in blues for a great grandson and one in purples for a great granddaughter. I have made quilts for all my children and grandchildren. I have learned so much from your tutorials. Thank you so much.
Jenny’s quilt would be great for Christmas, Mistys for summer, and Nathalies for Easter. All are beautiful. Thanks ladies. A fan, Susan.
I absolutely love this idea of round robin!! Natalie’s quilt, I’m sorry ladies, is my favorite! I just love those bright colors
What a beautiful quilt design! Love how you each taught a section and showed different fabrics. Love Triple Play!!!💕
Awesome quilt, it will be an heirloom that you all worked on!
Beautiful all three, but Natalie I love that fabric in yours
i love this tutorial how neat that you ladies each added your own pattern beautiful
Always enjoy Jennies videos
I love watching you ladies together! You are so fun and helpful! You have taken the fear out of quilting for me and added such a wonderful hobby to my life! Thanks for all you do!
I love triple play! Thank you!
Because every once in awhile, it needs to be a quilt from yardage. Yes please! All of them are lovely.
Love Nats colours, but drooled over Misty’s. I’m a sucker for yellow and blue! Well done all three ladies. ❤️🇦🇺
Thank you so much for making such beautiful quilts with yardage. They all look fabulous and so very different with the colorways you have each chosen.
I love Natalie's color choices so much!!! She always does my fav stuff!
Absolutely beautiful quilts, you three ladies are amazing.
What a great triple play!
These are gorgeous quilts. Hopefully the pattern will appear in block magazine so we can make one!
Beautiful! Thank you for showing us this quilt in different colors. Sometimes it’s difficult to picture a quilt in other colors. My husband watched this with me on TV. He wants me to make it. I told him I’d put it on my list. 😉
Love all your version of the same quilt, and I too am a big fan of all stars. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
You ladies ROCK!
I always love the triple play segments. This quilt is great. Wonderful job, ladies. 🎄
Love this quilt. Thank you for sharing all of your talents. ❤️❤️
absolutely stunning! love the difference in all 3.
Natalie's borders are the "star" of the show. Love all three color ways.
I LOVE this!!! I *do* love to see the same patterns made in completely different colourways. Natalie's is my favourite, but I love Jenny's quilting stitch pantograph/pattern. Thanks Ladies~!!!
Wow! I really love this pattern! I especially love the border design. I can’t wait to make this one.
Just when I think there is no way possible to top your last triple play...you do. I can't decide which one I like better. They are so different and beautiful.
Love them all, but Misty’s fabric with the blues and yellows is my favorite!
I LOVE these quilts! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. Natalie's fabrics are gorgeous. I may have to have those! This is a pattern I'm going to have to have!
This is so adorable. I love listening to your chatter.
Fantastic!!!! I love all three… I love the idea of the round robin sharing creativity 💝‼️
I love how each quilt looks so different yet they're all the same pattern!💖
Beautiful quilts ladies. Love them all.
WOW! Absolutely beautiful.
All 3 are just fantastic. It is great to see how the quilt changes with each group of fabrics.
I belong to a monthly quilt group. Numerous times we have chosen to do the same quilt pattern with our own choice of fabric. I was always amazed to see how different the same pattern looked with all the different fabrics.
Really love the way you are showing people the abundance of creativity that comes with loving to quilt!
Love this round robin! Stupendous, as usual 💕
Good Evening Jenny, Misty and Natalie, These three quilts are so beautiful. ❤️🥰❤️ I always enjoy seeing what you come up with for Triple Play. Another great show. Have a wonderful weekend, ❤️ Chris
I adore how the identical blocks & the same layout looks so different just by using different fabrics. I love batiks so Natalie’s is my favourite especially for winter. I have 2 baby quilts to make for my newest Granddaughters then I want to make denim throws for my new leather suite & protect it from my puppy’s claws. He is 10 months now &+is enormous, German Shepherd , so takes up a lot of the sofas.
What a lovely quilt and I just love all the fabrics, great job ladies, as always Triple play rocks.
How fun for you three to see projects together. ♥️
Wow.. such an amazing pattern that completely changes with fabric choices. Love it ! Can make this one several times. Good job ladies!
I loved every one! Even though they are the same quilt, they look very different!! Thank you!!
I love this quilt! I've been looking for my next quilt, wanting a blue and yellow. When I saw Misty's version, I thought that's it! Thank you ladies!
This needs to be a quilt kit. They are all so gorgeous!
Jenny, Natalie and Misty you are great, love all your Tutorial but especially your Triple Play, so much fun seeing what different ideas you come up with. Keep up the good work.
I love this quilt and such beautiful colors.
Loved this! So much fun!!! What a great idea to do with a group of friends. I really loved that it was done with yardage and not pre-cuts. Such a nice change Love all the colour combos. So well done!
Beautiful, beautiful quilts each in its own way. Your personalities blend so perfectly each triple play ❤️. Thank you all in front of and behind the camera. Merry Christmas.
You ladies make me smile. I love to watch y'all work together and come up with beautiful things. I think Triple Play days are my favorites. (But, I truly love all your tutorials.)
This is my favorite triple play yet...love the round robin!
I have to say Natalie….. I’ve never said. “I get to make the border!,, ugggggg. Lol. Love the quilts
Love this quilt so much! I’ve been wanting to do a similar border so this is so helpful.
Wow this was amazing thank you ladies.
You ladies are awesome. I love the triple play. Thank you!
I love that quilt. I love you girls putting things together. So easy to understand without a lot of miscellaneous chatter. Great job girls. Got another two lined up too!
Oh my gosh! Misty's fabric choices are gorgeous!
I was going through all the old videos to get ideas for a present. I love the Triple Plays!!! I love the interplay between between you ladies! Somehow it reminds me of the fa-dal-rah between the ladies of my family during canning, holiday cooking, and sewing! Misty, I have found I follow your design and colors choices more often....just personal preference. Thank you for doing what you all do!

Three beautiful quilts by three very talented ladies!! I enjoyed watching all three come together, and while they all speak to me in different ways, blue and yellow quilts always have and always will have a special place in my heart! Thank you for being there for all of us, and Merry Christmas to you all!
Love Natalie’s colors. Her quilt is my favorite this time.
Fabulous Quilts, Ladies! I love all your fabric choices, but Natalie's choice of fabric made me swoon. Many Thanks, it's going on my quilt bucket list ❤️
Love this quilt! All of them are beautiful, but especially love Nat’s color choice! I like the idea of a round robin quilt.
What a lovely quilt! I'm with you, Natalie...I prefer to do my own pinning! Merry Christmas to you and your families, ladies!
All three are beautiful, but Natalie's is my favorite. Love the border . I'm definitely going to do this one. Wish I could make these as fast as you all design them.
