#diymusician makes an electric upright bass. This is milling a fingerboard from rough cut lumber. There is a lot of milling to start a project. Lumber comes un-milled because it’s going to twist and warp as it dries out. So the idea is you only mill it just before you use it. This was a particularly difficult board. I got most of the bend out with the table saw, but I still needed to shim and plane off the last millimeter…which is many strokes of the plane. Honestly, it’s sort of zen to plane boards with a sharp blade, so I don’t mind the labour while I listen to tunes. It beats lifting weights any day.
