Sunset Place opened as a Simon center mall in 1999. The problem is that it is too secluded and lacks options for grocery, food, entertainment, retail, and residential. I would love to see a major residential and office component that connects to the metrorail. Keep the movie theatre, keep the area that faces Douglas Rd/US1, but demolish everything else and add residential condos/townhomes. Add a grocery retailer. Add office space. Add a green area that includes a dog park. Be creative. Gone are the days of typical malls with anchor stores.

Demands aren't being met which means changes are needed in order to keep up with consumers needs.. It's called a business cycle, overall people want change which is why this area has become deserted and reason it is in no way functioning financially! They need to compete with other hip areas that are booming in miami like design district, Wynwood, Brickell and soon even the grove in order to become a hot spot again..!! Its not year 2000 anymore, build new memories maybe.

this ! man im sick of this whole lets build stupid apartments or a more luxurious mall like the one in brickell.. like whos gonna buy anything there anyway? they did this with the mall of the americas. back in 2000 they took away the grand prix to make more apartment buildings. theyre just killing people memories. instead of making more creative things in the mall that can appeal to the older and newer generations. likeleave the old stores and have some new ones too. i get that physical retail stores is declining. dont get that they do this but still have money to make a the largest mall in the world now...in broward/miami county lines now. ??

tearing down one of the only places in miami that has this kind of real architectural essence, and replacing such genuine essence for the plastic, repetitive design created by and directed for wealthy people. this is the natural course of capitalism, but let us not forget places like Sunset Place.

Sunset place wasn't great from the start. I did hang out there a lot, but the lack of places to eat lead to me and my friends walking a little ways up to Subway (which got old fast). Otherwise there was Rainforest Cafe, super expensive, and a sit- down family type place, and Johnny Rockets, again stupid overpriced, I don't think I ever ate there in all the years I frequented Sunset Place. The Barnes and Nobles was nice but they went under, FAO Shwartz was cool, they went under too. There wasn't much reason to go besides Virgin Megastore and we all know what Happened there. This was all before 2005, mind you. This place fell to shit almost immediately.

@@realkingrav2265 unfortunately I haven't lived in Florida since around Hurricane Wilma. ( My family had enough with the hurricanes). But, it's beautiful down there. Depending on where you're coming from, the traffic can be overwhelming but don't let that take away from your visit! Try to make it down to South Beach if you can, it's even more awesome than it seems in movies. And Coconut Grove has a very chill atmosphere and an awesome theatre if that's what you were looking for. Have fun!
