I was at the gas station and noticed a car full of belongings and a lady with her dog. I gave her $20 and she just started bawling and was extremely grateful. When I was in my 20’s I was homeless for 2 months and lived in my car. I know how it feels to be in that situation.

I suggest you offset your real estate and get into stocks, A recession as bad it can be, provides good buying opportunities in the markets if you’re careful and it can also create volatility giving great short time buy and sell opportunities too. The wages in Florida are one of the lowest in the country yet the houses and rents in Miami and other cities nearby are one of the most expensive in the country. How does that make sense? How are the local jobs going to support convenience for residents of the people expected to work those jobs can’t afford to live in the area? Are they just employing rich peoples’ kids at all the businesses because adults aren’t available to work there? That’s going to be the only option going forward.

Just moved out of Florida. Lived in nice neighborhood in North Miami. When doing my finances and projecting my future I decided to move. It’s come to a point in South Fl that people have to decide if they should eat or pay they’re light bill after rent. This is no way to live. And yes crime is bad now. Did I mention bad drivers and bad traffic all the time.

I moved from Massachusetts to Miami and my income dramatically Increased from better paying job, I pay less in rent than I did up north, I can go swimming everyday. Literally going south of Miami to Cutler Bay or Homestead is still affordable. I love it here and would never move back up north. It’s also very boring pretty much in every small town I lived in from North Carolina to Massachusetts, basically people just drink and get fat from the lack of warm weather to want to be active. Oh and the amount of feminists and pink haired/blue haired man hating women is dramatically increasing so being a fit and masculine man, I met some of the most trash women up north. I can literally go out of the house now and find a beautiful Latina girl at a nightclub and dance with her tonight. That’s also a huge motivator for single wealthy guys to move from there boring towns.

I'm in miami and could not afford my house if i were house shopping right now. I moved here 25 years ago because of work and back then it was normal. A person with an honest job could buy a house and have a car payment etc and still have money left over. I cannot believe what people are paying for rent now. I feel so bad for locals. Yes it super nice and yes you may have grown up here but you know what's also nice? Eating. Go save a ton of money somewhere else then move here later.

Those are Manhattan prices. Even parts of Brooklyn are cheaper than living in Miami. People don't make as much money there so how are working class people supposed to live there? This should be the first question during the debate to knock the governor out of the primary debates.

I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale but didn’t come from the wealth side or beaches. Rough upbringings and I couldn’t pursue my goals out there. Florida isn’t the state to build a new family life or a successful career. Most will straddle the fence of Florida draws and don’t truly realize the climate there is horrifying to. No one wants to keep dealing with hurricanes like that and most can be deadly. I thank god the rose colored glasses are gone and I’ve been set free to pursue the life I always wanted. It’s hurt not the state for that fairytale like and america need to take a deeper look into Florida not the beaches/palm trees.

@@Fourwindsofsuccess your comment is totally opposite from the governor there who paints a rosy picture and is running high in the polls in Florida. I've been there a number of times all the way from St. Augustine to Disney, Fr. Lauderdale, the two Miami , all the way down to the Florida Keys. It's definitely not breezy like Caribbean weather. It used to be affordable. Then so many investors moved in there pushing the price of real estate up. But with constant hurricanes, flooding and bad weather insurance companies are leaving while I heard that one has to have home insurance. It's definitely not a place to live if one only has social security income.

I was a real estate agent from 2012 to 2017 and I saw a this trend of out of state buyers and corporations buying up property and flipping them. Neighborhoods were getting gentrified and I was trying to encourage my clients to buy property because renting was going to be a nightmare. Its sad what some of these developers have done because now its really difficult. Florida has one of the least affordable markets, but doesn't pay NY or CA wages. I'm glad that I was able to get my family into a nice home that they're comfortable with. In the meantime, I'm just waiting for the entire house of cards to fall so that we can start buying property again.

There is constant landscaping noise everywhere you go in Miami. It's not enjoyable to walk around in Miami neighborhoods because almost everyone speeds, runs red lights, drives through stop signs and makes extremely loud noise with their cars and motorcycles. There are cops everywhere but they don't enforce traffic violations.

This report is 100% accurate, I live in Miami and see this every day. Some people can’t afford to live here, they just don’t make enough and they are royally screwed. As cold as it sounds those individuals should consider moving because it’s not going to get any better. We are getting over 1000 people a day moving to Florida, most of those come to south Florida which means rents will get more expensive. It is about supply and demand. 100 applicants for every empty apartment and landlords are greedy.

@@rickthomas422 No, some cities/states cap the percentage on how much a Landlord can raise rent from year to year. Places that don’t have a cap allow landlords to triple rent from one year to the next. So people have to keep moving every year or they have to stick with sky high rent if they want to stay a second year. Section 8 is entirely different, it’s for poor people. But non-regulated rent affects virtually everyone. It’s obnoxious and it is also what is allowing rents to balloon the way they are ballooning.

Rents loosely reflect the house value and local market. I’d be curious to know what that house would sell for and what the mortgage would be for a standard 30 years with 20% down. If it’s a $2m house, we’ll, $9k isn’t terrible with today’s rates.

People come here for the climate. In January, when everyone else is freezing in blue, south Florida is orange with a high of 80. That will never change, & why people are willing to be paid less working here.

Not just housing. The cost of goods and services there is also nuts.

1:58 "$6000 a month!!!" lol. That was NOT affordable even before the pandemic. I mean seriously, it's a bad example cause first off it's a house not an apartment. But even so affordable is like if rent is 1/3 your monthly income. So for $6000 a month to be affordable you'd have to already have an income of $18k a month meaning you'd have to have a salary of $216k per year. That is not remotely close to an average income.

I don't think she was being fully honest because she didn't want people to realize the discrepancy in inflation in housing prices is way overpriced, that house was probably like $4k pre 2020.

Scottsdale, Arizona is considered to be the *BEST* (affordable) place to rent an apartment/house in the US? Ummm…. the person who created this list, probably hasn’t visited Arizona, because Scottsdale is considered to be a very affluent part of town, and it’s extremely expensive to rent or buy, in that area. Scottsdale is a nice area, and I would feel relatively safe living there, but it’s not affordable. Even the neighboring cities, like Paradise Valley (which is a city that boarders Scottsdale), can be extremely expensive, and has some million dollar properties. Chandler, Arizona also wouldn’t be affordable, because Chandler boarders Tempe. Tempe is where the Arizona State University campus is, so you have a ton of college students looking to rent apartments close to campus, which will increase the prices in both Tempe and Chandler. Not the most accurate list, in my opinion.

@@meroinheroinwhat are you talking about? Florida has never had a state income tax (the state constitution prohibits one). Florida’s base sales tax is 6 percent. If you’re paying 9 percent then I’m guessing you must be in Hillsborough (?) where they charge an extra 3 percent. Did I guess right?

@@sean2015 you're right friend, I mistook state income tax for federal (which we still pay) Also, I'm in Miami Beach where sales tax is 9% and Miami has a sales tax of 7% (I lived and grew up there + my parents live there so I regularly still shop there to save money.)

Irvine, CA has always been expensive not sure how it made the least of more affordable. It’s located in south Orange County which is very expensive to live!

But hey...at least the governor is doing important things like breaking the world record each week on how many times someone can say 'woke' in a sentence...

So glad that the pain is shared across the states. Thank you America

The problem with the rental situation is the ballooning of the value of the property!!! Realtors along with property owners trying to make a killing are to blame. New construction overly priced in areas where residents are low income earner’s does not make any sense????? Truth be told!!!!

Florida better be careful with this hypercapitalism. California, more specifically San Francisco was also once a really popular city and when the high rents became too much many became homeless and started to give the city a bad rep from what was previously a hotspot to move to.

@@ohnonono8195give it time. The Reagan tax cuts really made the state unaffordable for the working class. My family left California in 1975, and that was the big reason why they left. People from the east who had a bunch of money, bought a many houses they could, so people who we’re working class families we’re priced out. The California exodus has been around since the early 70’s. Florida is seeing the same thing that California went through.

That’s how crime starts to. Florida form rates increased and been increasing since the 2000s.

It's crazy because the Miami area recently ranked one of the top cities that everyone is moving OUT of. So, there is inventory. This is all just greed.

The issue is that no new homes have been built. Up until Kennedy, the government always built housing and wanted every American to have s house. Pretty much no new housing has been built for that past 50 years increasing demand with low supply means higher prices.

I’m in California welcome to the party Miami. 🎉 My rent for my 2 bed 2 bath 1140 sq ft in San Francisco Bay is 4100 a month.

1:20 - I feel the same way out here in Cali. I love it out here. Finding the perfect place for YOU is subjective.

Toronto, Ontario rent is just as steep. Hell, I witnessed a lone parking spot in downtown Toronto with a 4 figure $ amount for lease a month.

Damn, and my rent for a 3bed/3bath house in the SF Bay Area, CA is only $1950/month plus CA is rent control. My rent only went up $40 and my salary went up a lot too.

I live in San Diego, can say with confidence the cost of living is higher here.

I lived in FL for two years and I moved form the SF Bay Area. CA was more affordable. When I moved to FL, I was making 60% less than I made in CA and I was paying 55% more for rent in FL.

Irvine California has affordable rent? (1:08). Give me a break. Where did your TV news department get that information from? You'll be lucky to find a one bedroom for less than $3,000 per month.

Dozens of home insurance companies leaving the state. Hikes in FPL rates and car insurance and groceries. Most expensive housing market in the US and highest inflation. Yet many companies that were highlighted as moving here are paying low wages for office jobs.

Housing in other markets may be more expensive like California and New York but people on average get paid more. Nationally florida pays less than other states for the same job

That questions I always have about Miami is what industries does the city have to support these high rents. How many Fortune 500 companies have offices there.

UH TOURISM, Lawyers helping criminals stay in business, Lawyers putting people away, Real Estate companies, Construction Companies, and a lot of Latin American companies like Goya, Del Monte, etc the headquarters are in Miami. Miami/ Doral is a major hub for car customization, transport, and trucking companies. Majority of Cruise lines have their headquarters here. The list goes on and not too mention drug traffickers and money launderers have business here

Damn, almost $10K a month to rent that house. That’s crazy. Most mortgages don’t even come that close.

I am packing up leave july 31. It is unlivable in Florida. Starvation wages. Thats a dagger for me. I know a high principal making 100k a year, did not qualify for a mortgage.

It's not supposed to be affordable. Developers chose Miami. Residents that used to live there are pushed out, have to move somewhere else. Billionaires don't care about your feelings.

We're trending to Hong Kong type situation, they're building a high rise in Fort Lauderdale where it's 4 room dormitories and every individual room is for rent, meaning 4 strangers to a dorm, pod living is here. Thank God I was able to buy a spot in Palm Beach County back in 2018

I am moving out of Miami on Saturday because our government failed us we were told a couple years back that action will be taken to make Miami more affordable we were told their would be an appraisal for every home in Florida both for Rent and Buying a house, apartment ETC. after the appraisal was done the owner of the property was not to exceed the amount given by the state to rent or sell their home otherwise their would be consequences such as fine's and violation fees this was never sought out and now we are living in this hell of a state with prices only the rich can afford i just bought my first home but its not in Miami is 2 hours away and is an inconvenience to me to have to live that far from the place i grew up and know everything about and have all my family at we have to put an end to this and make these prices fair poor neighborhood used to sell houses for $150,000 now those same poor neighborhoods have houses at the price of $478,000 for that same house that used to cost $150,000 3 years ago i saw 1 house at $700,000 and all these poor neighborhoods are whats called the hood when has anyone seen a house for $700,000 in a place where crack head roam the streets at all times dealers at every street come on now Florida do better

Greed Mongers right? Well, let me tell you something I just stumbled across recently. I rent in the Bluffton / Hilton Head Island, SC area and a new "scam" has arisen in that property managers in the area are now "mandating" that you have to have Renters Insurance, (which I get...somewhat), but the Insurance HAS to be with your local property management office...and NOT by an outside REGULAR insurance agency. In SC, this is highly illegal and is called a "tie-on". The dollar amount isn't that much, ($39.00 / mo, for me), but I also wonder why I'm paying what I am with yearly $100 rent increases each year over the past 4 years. My marginal advice? 1.) Check / read your lease agreement carefully before signing to make sure it's NOT "baked" into your rent. 2.) Call any local insurance agency and ask them if "tie-on's" are legal in your state. The rest of which I'll leave up to you as I'm just beginning to go through this myself. Point being, is that the legal-eze in rental agreements can be / and are extremely mis-leading. Good Luck ya'll. Life just keeps getting harder by the day.
