had one....what a beast....50' rooster tails!!!!!! never raced.....traded for an unmolestd ossa 250 sdr.....maico had a $500 piston.....last overbore.....someone elses problem now....

Nice job starting.....I get so damn tired of hearing guys piss and moan about starting big bores and particularly the Maico 490. Perhaps they should stick to Honda S90's. Rode Husky 390, 430, and 500.....YZ465's....a zillion 250's....hell, they all start. Sorry, I just saw a blog with a guy complaining about starting Maico and it went down bad in my gizzard....

I get tired of hearing that also,all I’ve every had was European bikes with left side kick still have a 490 Maico and they all started right up, the only bike that ever gave me trouble or a kick back was an old ragged out Harley-Davidson

had one,same problem,hard to start,had original comp release,to be used for starting only....solved problem by installing regular comp release in blank plug hole in head and rigged a primer to get mixture in combustion chamber,not bottom of crankcase as carb primer did....mixture entered combustion chamber thru added comp release,when held open,,,,,,,problem solved......
