Nice bike I have an 1981 490 and went threw that kicking flooding the carb until one day my buddy brought over a mikuni carb and put it on for me and it starts up on first or no more than 3 kicks I love it now

kingdebary you did good. Beautiful bike. I think I told the story on here about the two dudes I watched unload a brand new one of those back when and within an hour of kicking it in tennis shoes they both broke a foot a piece.

I’ve had several left side KTM open class bikes. I will lean the bike over first than put it in gear and rock the bike back and forth about 4 times and than by the 3rd kick it starts. I use this technique on all my 2 stroke bikes also. I guarantee you will be glad you tried it ... are your money back.

my mate recons germans sent them over to finish us off from 1945 fact with any motoplatt the thrystors need charging so pigs to start early on in morning but after there charged there easy to start !

yeah, you are right about that. I should have cleaned the carb first though. It had been sitting for 6 months 🤪

Is that completely original/unrestored????? Well Ill be draining all the fuel out of my plastic tanks asap! I rode a brand new one of these when I was a freshman in high school while its owner flogged my 1980 YZ125. To this day I remember the feeling from this beast. I cant look at a Magura lever without having flashbacks lol. Beautiful bike

I can understand why you'd want a liquid cooled, because of the performance, and better cooling system, and yata yata yata, but the sound of an air cooled engine is better in my opinion.

@@cockroach5717 Liquid cooled is also quieter- easier to be stealthy with if need be. I allready have an air cooled bike, a IT490 (that I'm switching to YZ spec) and it's engine noise is much, much louder then either my CR or KX500s. Im going to try to get some rubber dampers to quiet those ringing fins, but it'll allways be louder.

@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 Meh, I prefer the sound of a loud 2 stroke, but making it quieter is what you wanna do. I have a motorized bike on my channel with details about it being sold if you are interested. I have a video of it on my channel, if you wanna come see it. I have to get an idle screw for the carb first, though. After we sell it me and my dad may go get either a Yamaha DT125 or GT80 Enduro. Cheers and God Bless.

Not sure if youvwatched my other videos but I have a tricked out 82 maico 490 on here with a custom built Works Performance shock that has a bigger shaft and a custom swingarm as well. Check it out

thats my bike!!! only in way, way better shape... I use to start mine standing on the back bumper of my pickup truck or bumped it. yeah ...it needs a lot of fuel to start...big blocks are like that eh?

I wish I still had one of mine in storage instead of getting rid off them always have a soft spot in my heart glad you kept the standard exhaust and tail pipe very nice sir

Thanks I will had a 81 83 x2 one ex works one that's the one that got a way it was a 83 read valve but it had a boost bottle on it never sean one since with a boost bottle the bottle was in the air box a pipe ran down and fitted on top of the inlet rubber all done professionally
