MAGUS CLASS GUIDE - PATHFINDER 2E

Ойындар

Welcome to the Pathfinder 2e Magus class guide! Brand new to Secrets of Magic, this class is a hybrid martial and spellcaster! By imbuing spells into their weapons, they can simultaneously make a melee weapon attack AND discharge a spell directly into their target! Very cool!

    Note: A spell that is prepared in a higher spell slot (heightened) may not have any additional effects but it is still a _higher level spell._ What this means is that counteracting effects (like dispel magic) still need to be of an appropriate level to counter the spell.

You can cast one action cantrips, focus spells, focus cantrips if you have them, no matter the tradition, and then enter Arcane cascade. • @Argol228

    @Argol228

    Expansive spellstrike isn;t that good. you casting stat is going to be behind your attacking stat so relying on saves that also have to rely on the strike to hit is just double stacking the chance to fail and waste a slot.

  • @nicholasromero238

    @nicholasromero238

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Argol228 I would rate expansive spellstrike at like 2.5/5 for more magi, 4/5 for starlit span. Assuming you're using conflux spells, expansive spellstrike works like a heavily limited Quicken Spell (since spellstrike is two actions, and strike+cast a spell is typically 3). Not bad, but not great given that it's only an advantaged actuon economy if you use conflux spells. It's better with starlit span because it gets all of the above benefits while also acting as a janky reach spell. Things like puff of poison, chill touch, etc which are kinda meh due to their touch range get a solid boost, and things like electric arc, scatter scree, and such get their max range increased.

    A small correction. Metamagic doesn't work with Spellstrike because it's a combined Activity. Spellstrike is Cast a Spell. So it seems it would also trigger attacks of opportunity if the spell being used has the manipulate trait.

  • @jacobwalsh1888

    @jacobwalsh1888

    2 жыл бұрын

    I must disagree. The exact quote is thus. "You typically can't use metamagic with Spellstrike because metamagic requires the next action you take to be Cast a Spell, and Spellstrike is a combined activity that doesn't qualify." If you interpret English properly, that sentence means that spellstrike is NOT considered the same as Casting a Spell as normal, but rather as its OWN combined activity, and therefore does not allow it to interact with things that require a spell cast action, nor therefore would it trigger anything triggered by a cast a spell action unless they specifically mention it." So not a correction.

    If we're going by the Latin, your pronunciation is more correct than "Maygus." The Latin would be akin to Ma (as in "grandma") but with the "a" syllable lengthened to twice its normal length and "gus" being closer to "goose". So: Maagoos. But we speak English not Latin and the pronunciations of these terms are pretty much up to local variance. Unless Paizo has some official pronunciation for their Magus, it's whatever you like. And even if they do it's not like there's a law determining how to say words.

    It's bin sometime sinds I last commented here. As too my favored Hybrid Study though all look pretty solid it has too be the Sparkling Targe. I liked the concept of a shield only build when we just only had the core rule book too look at but as 2e farther development paizo has spoiled me for choice with this concept and this magus subclass is a fine addition. It's also nice that Raise a Tome feat has a usable subclass unlike the playtest (although having said that it still has some problems because the base form doesn't mesh well with other magus shield feats until Shielded Tome but I still take it even for just the flavor). But all in all I can really see how the magus has bin refined sinds the playtest.

Also, fun fact, I've used fighter-mages and bards to cast Shocking Grasp through a sword (arguing electricity would go through the conductive metal weapon anyway) since AD&D 2nd edition. :P Lastly, missed pun opportunity: a-mage-ing

    Quick question... If you use the spell strike ability does it also expend the spell slot you have for the prepared spell you use? If so it means you can only use this ability 4 times before having to prepare again.

    Yes, but you can also spellstrike with cantrips! So even at level 1, a produce flame spellstrike with a longsword can still deal 1d8 + 1d6 + 6.

    It is a free action to change the grip on a weapon from one to two hands? In my group it is always an action to take a one handed weapon in both hands. i know it is hard action economy but we thought that is the purpose of feats like "two-handed assault". Are we doing it wrong?

  • @datonkallandor8687

    @datonkallandor8687

    2 жыл бұрын

    It costs one action to shift from 1 handed grip to two-handed grip. It is a free action to release one of your hands (Release is a free action). Dual-Handed Assault specifically lets you switch to two hands for free, as part of a Strike and then switch back - and all without breaking stances that require one hand to be free. And now Twisted Tree also lets you switch for free, with staves, at specfic time triggers.

    You must have your other hand completely free; the extra damage doesn't apply if you have a free-hand weapon or other item in that hand, even if you would normally be able to use the hand for other things.-Laughing Shadow. So yes only one gauntlet.

  • @MightySchoop

    @MightySchoop

    2 жыл бұрын

    Nothing in the Spellstrike description requires it to be a spell slot or cantrip you gained from the Magus class. Multiclassing in Pathfinder 2e is done by using your class feats which you gain on even numbered levels on "archetype" feats to gain abilities of another class. So, a Magus who spent his second level class feat on, say, "Druid Dedication" would have access to a couple of cantrips from the Primal spell list and could use them to Spellstrike.
