🎙️ Magnus The Red and Perturabo - (Excerpt from ‘Master of Prospero’) 🎙️

Ойын-сауық

Welcome back to Tales of Terra! 👋 I somehow hit my self imposed two week deadline alongside my full time job, so it's time for you to grab a coffee, sit down, and listen to my narration from Master of Prospero by Graham McNeil.
Magnus is undoubtedly my favourite Primarch, traitor or otherwise, and Perturabo is possibly my favorite traitor. Awful guy, but a thoroughly interesting character.
There is a crazy amount of foreshadowing for both characters in this excerpt. I love these candid moments between the sons of the Emperor, as I think they give us the best insight into who they really are, and with better guidance, who they could have become...

    I hope you all enjoy this foreshadowing dialogue between two of my favourite Primarchs! I couldn’t help but throw a dash of Churchill into Perturabo. Do you think it fits? What parts from the Horus Heresy would you like to hear next?

    It's a unique take on old Perty, it makes him sound like the hard old dog, no nonsense, straight laced trench digger that he is so it fits. Though Magnus sounds quite intimidating or as if he's trying to be. A bit like Kurze would if you will. I think you should give him more emotion like when he went "Brother! No!" At 5:57. It would have been more prudent if he sounded intimidating after that moment. But it was great overall, can't wait the next one. I think you'd do the confrontation of Sanguinius and Kurze on Macragge justice, I'd love to see it🔥

    @@reginaldthunderfuck4832 Haha I don’t disagree. I think it’s because he’s a chunky boy that may have come across in my interpretation. Interesting both you and @Iron Duke thinks Magnus sounds like Kurze. I’d always imagined Curze more nasal and grating. I believe the writers say at points that Nostraman accent/language is ugly or something along those lines. I’ve just uploaded Angron and Lorgar if you fancy a listen!

    True, but I can’t argue with what he’s pulled off when turning to chaos. Hard carrying the Horus heresy and dealing a huge, crippling blow to the imperial fists is NOT an easy feat, but scarier still, I think Perturabo and Vashtorr working together might deal a massive blow to the tyranids. The iron warriors once infected a tyranid bioship with their technovirus and converted it into a Titan carrier. It’s extremely possible that the iron warriors produce enough technovirus to infect an entire hive fleet in a single blow and have Vashtorr enslave their now techno-organic bodies to become his horde, ripe for transforming into demon engines that he can use to achieve godhood!

    Guys... let's think about this. 1. "Allowing those without our gifts to see" they would still need to be protected/trained to do so (absolutely would still need navigators) 2. The Look of Iron constantly sees the Eye of Terror... He did what he had to, protecting his Brother who wishes to explore such places... so the Lord of Iron works as a Compass himself in a way... since he can always see the Eye, making the creation of the device possible. What I believe the Device is for is a way-finder, much like a compass, an ability to navigate without the use of the Astronomicon?

    Honestly, I think this particular brotherhood should have been explored more in the Horus Heresy novels instead of Manus and Fulgrim. Perty, Magnus, and their legions have such a unique synergy that it transcends that of the former pairing. Perty verbally bitchslaps Magnus because he thought Magnus was going to die in this story and was so mad at that he basically said "You're not allowed to die on me, brother. I dont know how I would cope with your loss." I seriously want another story where these two help each other bring compliance to a world (or multiple), exploring the unlikely kinship these two have.

    Agreed, I wish it was fleshed out better. They're both characters that tend to have a more interesting dynamic with their counterparts than most. I got excited any time either of them appeared in the books when I wasn't expecting it. Master of Prospero is full of great moments; one of the few HH books where I can remember the whole story.

    As perturabo worked,a knock came. Snapping to his feet,forgebreaker was in his hand ready to meet the fool coming. The door opened. Instead of an iron warrior. Instead of even another traitor. Stood a man in crimson and silver armor with black robes,carrying a prosperine sword in sheath. "...magnus?" Perturabo seemed confused. "In a sense. Yes. I want to talk." "...so your soul is split." "Russ,yes. ...look i will not hide it. I am worried for you brother. You can not stay here like this. This level of isolation isnt healthy." "So? Why do you care? Did father or one of my sons send for you is that it!?" The unstable lord of iron spoke acusingly. Janus sighed. "No. Not your sons. Nor what remains of our father. ...apart from my own will,i came across someone in the aethyr who also asked." Perturabo was silent at this moment...but relented. "Fine. What." "...Look,i wont deny what fathers done. Between the genociding xenophobia and your own grudge with dorn and whoever else in all honesty after what happened on olympia,even if you asked to be a builder and not a destroyer i dont think anyone would blame going rogue. But staying in this area of unreality,for all intents and purposes dreadnoughting yourself to spite the neverborns gifts? Its not healthy. It is so incomprehensibly self destructive to a point you will beg for death sooner or later." "So what,i should join the inperium? You know as well as i noone will believe us." "True. But i didnt say that. My...worse half is in the process of rebuilding the prosperine rift. Even if it harbors some chaos,the knowledge and enlightenment is real. You could go there and truely use your gifts to make the best of that places situation, perhaps making it into a empire where chaos can be used as a tool rather then it controling you,perhaps you might be able to make peace with yourself." Perturabo was silent. ...it truely was him. This was the real magnus speaking if but a husk. "Say i did. Look at what ive become. What use would a half dead man would be?" "That wound in you is not just because of fulgrim. It is also in part due to you. Youve let yourself fester and rot in bitterness for milenia. Please brother. If not for me. Then let go. Im sure your sister would rather see you change into someone marginaly better then this." "...she spoke to you." Janus nodded. "She doesnt forgive what you did,but she does still love you deep down." Janus began walking away. "You arent corrupted brother. You have a chance. Think about it." Janus then vanished into the aethyr. As perturabo reached for a small doll...then put it back. To be continued...

    Perturabo Is very different when talk with some of his Brothers and when talk with his sons, with a lot of paranoid, lack of empathy and no love of them. I dream a utopia once... but you hate a lot of things and never do something to change your situation or make that utopia only blame with bitter hate someone.

    One of a few rare moments were Magnus and perturabo have a brotherly relationship. While there is bad blood and hostility from Leman Russ, and the staunchness of Dorn, Magnus knew how good Perturabo was at crafting things that were both designed for war. Perturabo was sadly designed for war but cared enough about Magnus. Imagine if the Emperor had asked the Lord of Iron to go and arrest the Red Cyclops at Prospero instead of the wolves. What would Perturabo do compared to Leman Russ?

  • @TalesOfTerraVA

    @TalesOfTerraVA

    Perturabo’s mind was designed for it, but his love for creativity was stronger than his aptitude for war. He would’ve always chosen tinkering over fighting given the chance. I think that’s what he and Magnus share in common. Magnus’ thirst for knowledge and learning far exceeds his aptitude for raw magical power.
