Magnus Carlsen's amazing positional decisions against Vladimir Kramnik | Commentary by Sagar Shah

Спорт

Magnus Carlsen, the current World Champion, was pitted against Vladimir Kramnik, former World Champion, at the World Blitz Championships 2019. Carlsen essayed the London System and the position looked round about even. But just when all looked equal, Carlsen started to make some amazing positional decisions. It's a game from which you can learn a lot. IM Sagar Shah explains to you with his fast paced commentary.

Undoubtedly, you are one of the best chess commentators because of your technical knowledge and quick assessment of live positions and precise analysis of any position, you can comment previously boring games of chess really like a war with the increasing crescendo as the pieces are put into play because you understand what is going on! I have been watching many chess channels but yours is fresh and educational, keep going👏😊

0:36 Nb4 is not a big threat because white has the simple move of Bd3 which is in a practical game ±0 just like the move c3. Edit: accidentally typed Nb3 instead of Nb4.

@@MichaelCheng628 Wow, are you actually dimwitted? I said practical game ±0 meaning that the players don't play like Stockfish 15 with 30 depth. But even if you follow the best possible line from Stockfish all the way to the end, it ends up in a draw. Why? Stockfish can't convert a half a pawn lead against itself and if depth wasn't a limitation in chess engines, it would actually show 0.0 with best play from both. Edit: Even Ruy Lopez (Berlin defence main line) shows +0.5 for white after the basic moves and yet it's one of the most drawing openings in Chess

0:45 Nb4 attacking c2 with the bishop is a bad move, white castles, black takes pawn but isn’t developed. What happens after Rc1? Knight would have to retreat, then what happens after Bc7 attacking queen? For one pawn white would gain initiative against a uncastled and underdeveloped king.

Of course he is much more than 50% of his capasity. Its small margins in the top, and if you lose 5% you are out of the top 100. But 50% is a huge overstatement. Its almost like claiming he`s a 1300 player.

Mind blowing! I love how carlsen focused entirely on the king side and kramnik focusser entirely on the queen and the way carlsen got the knight from the queen side into play on the king side was just stunning! In the end kramniks rooks were soo far away from the action that they just ended up collecting pawns on the queen side while his kind side was being mauled by those four pieces as sagar points Also loved how carlsen just abandoned those pawns on the queen when he smelt blood! :)

  • @stagna1959

even one bishop is usually better than knight in endgames. Bishop is long range piece which can move from queenside to kingside really fast and protect a-pawn and h-pawn simultaneously if necessary . Knight is better in closed positions with many pawns when access to pawns is difficult and king cannot walk to opponent camp at all, but knight can jump there. Most great players including Fischer preferred bishop to knight. Bishop has its weaknesses of course to help promotions. Light square bishop + h-pawn against bare black king Kh8 is draw no matter how you play it.Dark square bishop cannot help a-pawn if black king parked his ass on a8-corner. Same pawns + knight is win.
