Thank you so very much for this lovely tribute. I watched the whole thing and cried a lot. Since I'm now raising my son and not able to practice formally at this time, watching this movie helped me reconnect with my deep roots in our sangha. I didn't meet Maezumi Roshi in person but he visited me in a dream right after he died and I will never ever forget that. Thank you so much for making this film and making it available.

I'm currently writing a book about Buddhist meditation where I also cover small biographies of the more famous Buddhist teachers: Theravada, Zen, Tibetan, etc. Two of the entries, for instance, are Chogyam Trungpa and Maezumi Roshi. And then I discovered that these two great teachers were addicted to alcohol. Very sad!

I practice in the lineage of Maezumi Roshi, through Joko Beck’s heir, psychoanalyst Barry Magid., PhD. I recommend Barry’s book, “Ordinary Mind,” that touches on and addresses the issue of personal failings of master teachers.

Sad of course, but we must appreciate the path every individual is on, we cannot really comment further on it. Many people choose to focus on the teacher instead of the Teaching. Keep the heart and mind open.

~28:32 the "love/hate" thing. He was showing you where forgiveness was needed so that you might forget the illusion of a separate self. The fact that there was hurt indicates the presence of the illusion. Forgiveness is the healing of the mind.

This is why we imagine scales and our works being weighed. Me thinks his were not all unskillfulness.
