I love Daido ... He was my first influence in zen... I never went to visit mount tremper, so I never met him. 📻 I was actually reading a book of his Dharma talks, earlier today🙏 he said, THIS is how you attain freedom in this life.... By manifesting it.

My first teacher. He affectionately rang his bell and threw me out of dokusan immediately after I opened my mouth the first three times. Still teaching me from the grave to this day.

In his book "The True Dharma Eye, Zen Master Dogen's 300 Koans", Page 1, John leaves Dogen's comment "Through direct transmission I have received it more than 2180 years later. Dogen was born 1763 years after the Buddha and attained enlightenment at age 25. So Dogen received transmission 1783 years later. It is a small point. But it could have warranted a comment.

There is something amazingly about Genjokoan. I don't pretend to understand it. But something rings true about it. The SFZC and Kazuaki Tanahashi have done a great job translating Dogen's body of work.

Yes, it is a beautiful piece. Shohaku Okumura's book Realizing Genjokoan is a great guide.

I don't know but you can sign up for their podcast. Shugen Arnold gives excellent talks, as does Zuisei. The podcast archive is here: zmm.org/media/
