The black guy at the end of the video who removes his glasses is Labi Siffre who wrote and sang the song back in 1971, hence the reggae vibe

Labi has never been reggae. The reggae vibes are from the Two Tone lite genre that Madness did loads of.

Madness was based in ska, which came before reggae. They were influenced by Symarip, Andy Capp, The Dynamites, etc... From a music standpoint Madness influence was from artists on Blue Beat and Trojan records. We are talking the Windrush generation.
This is one of my favourites by Madness, simply because it's essentially a ballad, yet you can still hear the Ska/Reggae beats.
Wow, this song is nearly 40 years old. It sounds as fresh as the day it came out. Long live the Nutty Boys
Madness are one of my favourite bands went to one of their concerts in 2019 it was amazing

Theirs was the first gig I ever went to. It was just after Night Boat to Cairo was released and got me hooked.
Labre Sifre who sung this originally appears in the video at 4:15 he takes his sunglasses off. Madness are one of my fab British Groups. You're right about Suggs he had a great voice.
I second the call for The Specials if you are looking for a different band but of the same era. Start with Gangsters then Too Much Too Young. Great reactions... keep em up!

Love it, this song, Our House, House of Fun, and Wings of a Dove are my favourite Madness songs 😎🕴️ Madness actually played live with my favourites UB40 in 1983, there's clips on KZread, they're all very young looking - and Suggs isn't wearing sunglasses lol, lots of amazing sax in that set as well, they sing 'Madness', don't think you've reacted to that yet, please can you react to this? It'd be good for your Madness trip, see what they were like at the beginning. 😁
The Reggae vibe is spot on. Madness can sometimes fall into the category of Ska, and while uk Ska is somewhat different to the original Ska of Jamaica it borrows a similar beat and uses the same brass instruments.

Massive ear-worm of a song. You'll be hearing this in your head for weeks! Madness were Two Tone Ska (2nd wave Ska), an offshoot of Reggae. Madness were big fans of Prince Buster, one of the early legends of original Ska. They wrote a tribute to him called The Prince - good song. Check it out sometime. Peace from SF
This is the song me and my wife danced to at our wedding.
Back in the mid 90's, on my way home from college, on the bus. I looked out the window. I was like, im sure that guy us suggs from madness. Proceded with my journey thought nothing of it. Within the month, started a new job, listening on the radio, its suggs talking about a new solo song "off on holiday" . It was only about my town 🤣 he thought it was so rubbish he wrote a song about it. Apparently his mother inlaw lived there. So yep, it was him.
One better day is a good tune.. deep meaning 👌🏼

4:15 Violinist is Labi Siffre, original artist to song.
The original singer labi sifrie appeared in the video of the said tune he had a hit with it in 1971
Just noticed that this video pre-dates the Nirvana album cover & Blind Melon's Girl in a bee costume No Rain Video.
"My Girl" is a good one from Madness
There were 5 or 6 bands around the same time that were all connected. You had madness, the specials, bad manners, the beat, the selector, the body snatchers had one or two songs, you could probably throw ub40 into the mix too although they are a bit separate from the main group. The specials are usually considered the strongest ability wise and they are better live than studio. If you get the chance make sure to check out Nite Klub live by the specials. Mighty Macaw has the dance craze version.

Ska from Jamaica was also known as Blue Beat in the UK because the major record label releasing Jamaican ska was Blue Beat Records . Blue Beat influenced mainly white youth in council estates as many of the immigrants from the Windrush generation also settled in those same council estates. The influence of Blue Beat formed the basis of UK ska which was mainly on the Two tone label. Then came rocksteady with brought in some rock elements to the music, and finally rocksteady was adopted by the Jamaican's back in Jamaica and became Reggae.
Love madness. Tomorrow just another day is probably my favourite
Massive band in the UK in the 80s
ELO please after the brilliant Madness 🤘🤘🤘
Madness has lots of Two Tone reggae vibes.
Check out the original by Labi Siffre, & other stuff by him, he's a UK legend!!
Love this song 🎵
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of Benidorm. You'll know what I mean when you get further into the show!
Fun group
If you're looking for something different, you could try Blue Rondo Ala Turk - Klactoveesedstein (strangest title of a song i know but a great tune)
Don't normally like covers but I always thought this was better than the original
Tuuuuuuunnneeeee 🔥🔥👏👏👏👏👏
Madness is a two-tone/ska groups. Two tone and ska is a mixture of Reggae, punk and pop music. You should look for some more two-tone bands.
Madness holds or held the record for the most consecutive hits in the UK not sure if they still do.
The group squeeze the undertones ian dury and the blockheads all great groups
My Girl is well worth a listen
madness got their influence from prince buster of course comming from jamaica ska music thats were you hear a bit of reggae orginated from jamaica bought to uk by emirgrants hence 2 tone was born. madness specials and selecter

"Return of the Los Palmas 7" is an instrumental song by Madness. If you prefer their lyric-songs, you might not actually dislike this, but hey-ho kzread.info/dash/bejne/d3WJyrWuecKenLg.html

Ska without Madness: No Chance!
Bad songs by Madness? Never was one.
I used to be quite a big madness fan, back in school. But sadly many of madness songs were over played by radio stations, and commercialised. Now I can't stand this track, house of fun, I like driving in my car, embarrassment and my girl.
Embarrassment, sorry that is the name of a song not a judgement So this is the second wave of SKA (2Tone) which predates and influences reggae
