Probably the most cheerful song about dying of a heart attack

They've not played it live for many years as they don't want to tempt fate.

@@williammcaleese2709 It's deceptively very dark. It's upbeat jaunty tone belies the horror of the content.

@@CoffeeConnected I wouldn't say so tbh. Basically it's all about how stressing about everything in life is going to lead you to an early grave. In many ways, it's quite an uplifting song about enjoying life when you can, where you can to stave off an untimely end.

One step beyond is awesome
Seen Madness live a couple of times at outdoor festivals. Great musicians and brilliant audience interaction. Suggs never ages!!
the instrument is a xylphone if its wood and a Glockenspiel if it is metal

But what he actually played on the recording was a vibraphone
'The Return of The Los Palmas 7' by Madness, which is an instrumental, has a great beat, sort of Caribean/tropical holiday vibe. Also their version of 'It Must Be Love' is another great song.
Excellent!! Hoping ‘Embarrassment’ is on the ‘to do’ list.....

Carl "Chas Smash" Smythe ultimate legend
I think madness is the only band to create an actual earthquake
Driving In My Car is a really fun song.
Wings Of A Dove, It Must Be Love or wi you being American try Uncle Sam all being Madness songs
Comedy + Rap = *Lunar C* *Best of Lunar C - Don't Flop Rap Battles* *Lunar C - Chicken* *Lunar C - Fire in the Booth Part 3* The *Chicken* music video features the guy who voices *Baloo* in the various *Jungle Book* films and TV shows.
They've just released a series of episodes on KZread detailing before they were famous and how they all met
I agree with your review. This is one of their songs that not a lot of people are aware of, but for me it's right up there among their best. I'm very happy to see you cover it. Although it's an upbeat tune with some minor chords this is a very dark song. I guess it has that bittersweet feeling about it. I like the way the video finishes with the main character singing the chorus in a jolly manner. Kind of offsets the very dark ending that the character meets in the actual lyrics. Love this song.
It's a Glockenspiel he's playing.
Best Madness song is "Michael Caine"
xyslophone is what they used, but that was just a prop for the video. You may be interested to know London Buses had conductors as seen in the video, they sold tickets to passengers so you could travel on a Bus.
One of their lesser known tunes ........ don't think I've heard this one before.

It didn't receive a great deal of radio air time, especially from the BBC due to the content of the song iirc.

@@mattb0878 That might also explain why it hardly ever got many replays afterwards too. I love it. The best songs sometimes deal with difficult material.
Ohhh Madness, it's a soundtrack of my adolescence. Still fun with 52.
Fun seeing the old 70’s & 80’s cars etc, around north London… Have seen Madness few times & tribute bands as well…. Total Madness !
I recommend this on your last madness video, brilliant

Legend!
Madness said Cardiac Arrest came from when they was in Japan and travelling on the local train service when someone died of a heart attack on his way to work, This is when they come up with the idea about this song.

Rubbish. What's the point in posting BS Jim? It was written by Carl about his dad. As was You're Wonderful years later when he passed.
Saw them in 2018 in Glasgow, they've still got it.
A more modern Madness song worth trying out is Mr. APPLES
Brilliantly written song, completely tells a story of someone killing themselves for the rat race

Grey day or my girl👍👍
It's called a xylophone
Got to be One step beyond or Night boat to Cairo next...
My friends band just did a song with the bassist from Madness ... I didn’t know how to feel because yes it’s really cool but my friend is the bassist so ....
Grey day is my favorite
Try the toy dolls... nelly the elephant. When i was 18 i twisted my ankle dancing to it, as my ankle twisted a friends foot in bover boot landed on my ankle (dancing was basically jumping around) exactly a year later in the same pub dancing with the same palls to the same song... same thing happened but the other ankle. I'd love to see you react to a live recorded video of the song and bring back memories
Try “It Must Be Love”, very different vibe to the other Madness songs you reacted to.
Great great great. Plz react to new order-- world in motion an fat les-- vindaloo. Great vid 👍and the instrument you mentioned could be a xylophone.
Is there a chance to react to Oasis songs? 😊👍🏻

Please react to Uncle Sam
I don't remember this one, I'm gonnae be controversial, I didn't like it as much 🤷🏼♀️ (Still giving you a like though 😁) Edit - when I say I don't like it, I mean compared to other Madness tunes, Wings of a dove is a favourite of mine, but I'd still dance along to this beat lol, just wouldn't be my first choice,
