I come back to watch this video once every couple of years and last Saturday was one of those times it’s starting to become more surreal knowing that it will be 10 years in September when the clips for this video began being made. It all seems like a dream these days and seems so far back but at the same time I can recollect very minute details. I hope the madness that was Afghanistan gets people to think a bit deeper into what the military is, and what it's used for, and who it uses. I can't imagine any soldier coming back from there with the same notion he had when he left home; that he was protecting American freedoms, fighting for liberty, or some other bs propaganda we've all been eating for breakfast since we were kids, watching saturday morning cartoons. The two trillion dollars we flushed down the toilet over there could have paid for a college education for every American that wanted one, for the next thousand years..

I watched this video and immediately think of everyone I deployed with. The one who took his life, the one who went AWOL, and everyone else who i don't talk to anymore. I know everyone struggles in their own ways. Find happiness, inner peace and continue mission.

My Dad was a Sgt., 1st Marine Div. 3/5 in Korea 1953 (stationed on the 38th parallel just after the armistice)...Section leader using the old 1917 water cooled MG's. He passed away in 2015, but he loved watching his old unit operate & kick ass in both Afghanistan & Iraq ! Even at 81, he was a hardcore Marine ! All you men have my utmost Respect.

I don't know why but the flinching at every explosion really got to me. It sucks knowing that they go through that so often but its something that's still hard to get used to.

Felix I think it's good sport of you to tolerate war in USA. Everyone else in your country is a coward and a hypocrite. They only want war on foreign soil. "War is war" indeed. In New York or Bagdad, it's the same thing, and people will burn under hostile missiles either way. At least you had the human decency to admit that. No one wants war, but at least you see the potential nuking of New York as ethically equal to the nuking of any other major city.

Just found out, tonight, one of the great people I worked with in the Army was killed in Afghanistan in 2012. Great timing finding this on the same night; this is the kind of people he was, and loved to be around; the kind that would go into harms way, while telling a joke and wearing a genuine smile.

I stumbled on this after my 2013 MEDEVAC tour in RC East. All I can say is this moves me to tears every time due to the fact we felt on top of the world yet wasting our lives for a country of people that didn’t even try to help themselves. But I agree with the lyrics “I find it kind of funny and kind of sad that the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had”. I would not change any of my experiences overseas simply because I had the best experience with people I absolutely would lay down my life with. I had better times overseas than I do stateside.

Well i have just re watched this 3 times i had to check i was seeing correctly. I.m so astounded at the brave men, soldiers who at almost every explosion continued to stay focused some hardly flinched i'm in no doubt it wasn't untill the return home that the noise was heard. So very brave, loyal and dedicated to one another in the face of A Mad World.

I never set foot in the AFG, but I heard the tales of Abbate, Shady-Shadier-Shadiest, Lt Kelley's dad, and one or two other things. I was at Bethesda when some of your legends were there, and I'll always remember the 25 from 3/5. S/F, and GET SOME.

I need this every once in awhile to remember, its not just me. #the struggle

***** For them, even for womans, you WERE occupants, they liked their dictatorship, talibans had support, so you DID NOT have any law toi invade them. ;) Also, why when Soviet Union made intervention in Afghanistan it thos guys were freedom fighters, although Soviet Union fought on side of goverment and when you invaded Afghanstan, those guys were terrorists? ;) BTW should I remind you, that 10 years earlier you supported and armed those guys? ;)

All these rude comments shame on you the 3/5 in 2010-2011 had over 25 Fallen over 380 wounded in a 7 months deployment! I had only a 30% of my doorbell ringing. I was lucky mine came back! We still feel this deployment.

Please tell me what happened to those beautiful doggos. Shame, the one had a bandage. Did the team at least get to reunite with the pup and the service dogs? What they did in Vietnam was truly terrible, I hope that's changed since.
