Baker's "Wake Up" bass line is, in my (not) so humble opinion, one of the best from 90s rock. Period.

These interviews just make it clear why Mad Season was so awesome in such a short amount of time: so much talent and dedication. It's so satisfying to see a resurrection of interest in the band, and the special edition album with new tracks with Lanegan, after all this time. Despite their personal problems these guys were contributing, and in no minor way, to one of the great eras of guitar-based music.

Colonel Hart Baker, from my experience, was very low key, in a sense. I met him at a Bootsy Collins show at RCKCNDY. Very humble, very personable man especially if you knew music. He loved talking about music. He enjoyed Jazz. What else? He was incredibly grateful for Mike's friendship. Never hesitated to mention how much Mike's generosity changed his life for the better. In the short amount of time I spent with him, this is what I recall- His car, they are speaking of, was named TAMMY. He told me he named it after a gal he once dated back in Minnesota. He had a skeleton head about the size of a fist that hung from the review mirror of Tammy. I asked if the skeleton had a name and he said. "LAYNE", with a chuckle. Now that Baker is gone, all anyone has are the memories. If no one cares to share the memories, though, a person's existence just becomes lost after they pass. But anyhow- you asked so I offered. Baker was a good person. Humble, dry sense of humor and lived music. Unfortunately he just could not kick that bs drug habit. But overall, a nice guy with a good heart.

I'm wondering if Mike helped give Baker some much needed relevance and purpose to his life at that time, much like he was trying to instill in Layne. I mean, to have *the guitarist from Pearl Jam* asking you to join their scene, that must have been absolutely mind blowing for Baker. It just makes me so sad that Baker was unfortunately dropped into a city that--of all places--was being ravaged by the very thing he was in rehab for. Strange unusual new city, new people, no family, no money, his GF goes back to Europe...the poor guy didn't stand much of a chance, in all honesty. 💔😭🎸

This guy was one of the best bass players of his time, and to think he would have died unknown if Mike hadn't found him. It fucks my heart that he hardly had a chance to show the world what he had in him.

yeah we all are connected. i was on a blues brothers mission in 1999 and hired the guy that played in the school band when i came into the next school at age 11 in 1994 he was 16 and for me an adult, he was an outstanding singer and guitar player. And we started jamming in 1999, my goal was to create the perfect 70s rock band and we permanently talked about the b3 organ and how much we loved leslie speakers.. another bloke a friend i barely knew but saw him from time to time in a practise room, he played perfect hendrix immitation , so i of course wanted those two connected with me on drums but damn they didnt get along and the hendrix guy left the first rehearsal.. Mad season were on heavy rotation in 2000 , and that whatsoever, was found by me when i did a wrecked 4 track recording in the practise room (my double kick broke) and there was that tape "trust us" on one side and "mad season " on the other.. god.. what an holy grail find that was. Coming from more or less successful musicians, in germany, from another strain also people i knew for years at that point and with which i came from being chased in the bus to playing jams together to being asked to join their band. all long gone live solitary since 2005, permanently working on music, in theory made my dream come true(70s rock songs) but practically am to moody to find musicians that are in to level i am.
