    Rewatching this review as I saw another video that cited Machi Koro as one of the top ten games of the century, I knew I’d seen a review before and while it your more recent videos far outshine this in terms of video quality, the jokes and content is what made me love your videos and content, plus I still miss Paul

    Don't know why this popped up in my feed today, but I'm glad it did. We currently play Splendor over Machi Koro because the basic rules are so simple that my 4 year old can play and those with small children will know the value of a game that is fun for the child and fun for the adult.

    Machi Koro is BROKEN, There is a certain combination that will just win the game outright. I like the concept but unfortunately finding the combination has ruined it. Luckily Space Base at least so far has fixed the issues and is the same mechanics. EDIT: Playing with the Harbour Expansion changes fixes the game mostly an doesn't actually require the expansion itself for the rulechange

    Question about one of the Machi Koro rules: when it says there is an activation order: red, blue, then purple, does that mean you can use all those colors for one roll, just in that order? Or does it mean you activate red the first time you get that number, then in a different turn, if you roll that same number you can then use blue next, ect?

  • @rjcarr316

    @rjcarr316

    Жыл бұрын

    All of your cards activate when you roll the number, but the order is about payout. If you're broke you might not be able to pay out (red), but then you can still earn on the same turn.

    I have been enjoying Machi Koro for quite a while now, bought the two expansions as well, though the second one isn't as good as the first. Funny enough we played the game wrong at the beggining (having 10 random buildings for sale and draw a new one after one is bought, instead of all the building types available in the beginning), but they actually implemented this method after the second expansion. I would definitely recommend this version of play, it takes away the cafe problem for instance in one of the comments below. Also are those chips really in the UK box? They look really bad, the NL version has cardboard coins with actual numbers 1,5,10 on them.

    ...I'm a bit late I guess but how does that differ from Catan? Don't get me wrong, I love both games. But in both games you roll a die and hope your number gets rolled. Catan had trading, but Machi Korro gets going faster. Because I feel like Machi Korro makes it easier to get good numbers, and it reduces the first player advantage that happens in Catan when you go last, and your Aunt gets 6s and 8s but you somehow get a twelve, and... what? Two twos??

    Valeria Card Kingdom totally killed Machi Koro IMO. It fixes the stupid flow of the game in Machi Koro where you need to probably eventually transition to 2 dice, but the timing is awkward, and adds time to the game for no reason. Other player turns are more relevant in V:KC too. Haven't played Machi Koro since :p

    I'm not usually snobby with board games but Machi Koro is really pushing it. It's such a trap. It's been marketed as if it's an actual board game for the community and has been given an appealing visual design, but you may as well be playing Monopoly or any roll to move kids game. I know so many people who have buyers remorse for this one and it's easy to see why. Splendor is a great light/short game. No reason not to have it in your collection.

    Splendor is one of the most boring and mundane games I've ever played. It's "puzzle" is quite easy to solve at the beginning of the game and doesn't get neither easier nor harder by the round. The biggest thing you have to worry about is: "have I hedged my bet againt the stack of the random cards that will enter play after I buy another card?" So when the victory is more dependent on luck than on your strategy, that's just pathetic.

    Well if you are in a game of any amount of players, strategies are bound to overlap, and when playing, multiple decisions lead to your desired outcome, but it is up to you to solve 1.What is the most turn effective/fastest way to your win condition 2.What could slow your opponents win condition down while still helping yourself 3.What is the safest play where your opponent cannot set you back. 4.What is a move I can make where I am assured I will have an effective next turn. When me and my friends play the game it turns into a match of who can read the other the best and make the most efficient moves. And we really enjoy it! So if you ever wanna give the game a shot again try and think of it more like that. Hopefully you can find it more enjoyable!
