DSA is a game loved by everyone I've shown it to. Introduced my father in law to it last Christmas time and he told me he was awake till 4am that night trying to work out the best way to play it. I told him it's quite simple, you either play cautiously or as a dick.

I'm American, my family's been American for at least two generations down every branch, and I was introduced to the game as "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral". So it's not exclusive to Quinn's family or the bloody English. Though the way it was taught to me, "mineral" was just anything that wasn't alive. (I remember being an obnoxious little elementary schooler and picking mushrooms, since they're alive but not plants _or_ animals!)

Deep Sea is definitely one of my favorites... I think partly because I like social experiments and it's fun seeing how backstabby and greedy my friends/family get... and it's such a perfect example of the phrase "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you". Seeing the look of sheer panic set in on peoples faces when someone close to the surface decides to pick up another piece of treasure just to use more air is really quite fun... I think something might be wrong with me.

My first Oink game was a Deep Sea Adventures. Me and my friends loved it and after that I started collecting them (10 so far). Some are so-so and others are brilliant. But what I love most about them are their portability. I’ve played them during train rides, at the pub and my friend’s summer cabin. They are easy to put in a pocket and you can often put several in a backpack or a suitcase.

DSA and A Fake Artist... are both very popular for lunchtime game sessions. Watching someone weighed down with treasure scratching on the door of the submarine when they just can't... bloody... roll... more... than...a...bloody...two... is marvellous entertainment. Great summary- and I think that Startups will be my next purchase.

16:56 I feel you Quinn. I enjoy DSA but I have never won a single game yet. It is exceedingly brutal but I think that's where it shines. One person in our group once won the game by getting a tier 4 treasure in Round 2 then grabbing as many treasures in round 3 so he could suffocate us all with the oxygen debt. No one had any treasures to keep at that point and although everyone drowned, he still won due to his higher valued treasure!

Respectfully, hard disagree on your assessment of Deep Sea Adventure. It’s been a hit with every group that I’ve introduced it to. I’m especially surprised because Quinns likes Diamant/Incan Gold so much. Glad to see at least Matt bumped it up in the rankings in the end. Obviously I won’t change your mind if you don’t like it (that’s fine), but with how much fun I’ve had with it, it would be a pity if someone passed on it without trying it just because of this video.

If you like the hidden roles and yes or no style of Insider, I can’t recommend Werewords enough! It’s essentially the same game, with bigger cards, more roles, a companion app that helps streamline thing, as well as tokens to help show previous answers! Like they say, it’s so much fun, and with the expanded number of roles, the tension and hilarity from close games is unbeatable as far as word games like this go in my books!

"I didn't win but I deserved to" is such an interesting feeling. It is okay to shrug it off once or twice and laugh with your friends. But if it keeps happening in the same game it can become frustrating. You start feeling that the game itself is designed to be either completely random or reward the people at the bottom to help them overcome the leader.

This review-pack style was kinda great actually. Wouldn't mind more of this. That said, for anyone that's played these, can someone explain the appeal of Startups? I can't tell if this is just Quinn's peculiar tastes or if I missed something in the short overview but even after the explanation I don't quite get the appeal? (Speaking as someone who's played none of these and disagreed with Quinn's opinions on numerous occasions)

You have to invest somewhere, but the worst position to end up in is 2nd best. You'd prefer to be 1st or not in the fight at all. Add in some randomization, hidden information, and a bit of luck, and you have some nice tension in a breezy little game.

Love this review and you make me truly want to try Startups and Insider too. It looks like great party-light games. So far, I have only played Nine Tiles Panic and me and my friends actually love it, because of its art and how you have to correct the town city in limited time. We found it is hilarious sometimes when either I or my friends can't make the things right. Thank you for your review and I really want to watch your other oink games more like Maskmen, Kobayakawa, etc.

I too sit around the house like Quinns at the start of the video, just sat with me and my nice looking board games. Just enjoying them. Also, I love Fake Artist, got it for my recent holiday with friends. Only issue is one person having to sit out in low numbers as the "hint giver" but there are apps you can get that are alright! Also the game can quickly dissolve into everyone doing micro drawings, which basically makes it impossible as the Fake as you're not really able to add anything without being called out for failing to draw a micro Mona Lisa. It's great. I might get Start Up as it seems interesting, also Insider. These games look nice.

First off, DSA is better than it was presented IMO, but everyone can have different opinions on things. Secondly, the most satisfying thing about Oink Games is that when you clean them up you chuck everything in the box (with some things poking out), put on the lid partially and then gently shake the box while pressing lightly on both box halves to have the game reorganize itself within the box so the lid fits flush. You can't imagine the satisfaction before trying it, it's gorgeous.

Yes, please review more of these! Also I'd love to hear your opinion on player count. Are any of these particularly good for two players? Do any of them with a range of player counts not stand up well at the high or low end?

Never watched these guys before. Good reviews, better banter. Time to look through the other uploads.

Visited Washington DC last year and my wife and I picked up Deep Sea Adventures and Startups at the recommendation of the gameshop staff. Highly recommended

I couldn't agree more on the final rankings. Those top two are the best, Tomatomato is terrible and I haven't won Deep Sea Adventure either :(

Jon Purkis. The man, the myth, the legend. Matt, Quinn, and Purkis writing a skit together for a review similar to this would be amazing. Collaboration? :)

Love Deep Sea Adventure. I haven't played them all, but of the few I have (including Startups) Deep Sea Adventure is my favourite. It's the only one I bought after playing it.

Feel like the tomato game would be a great drinking game. If you lose you drink, if you win a card everyone else drinks

Deep Sea Adventure was the first one I got into and own as well, I've had Fake Artist on my radar for a long while. Glad to see it's so well rated by them.
