    Recently, I learned, then taught “ Scout” and played two five player games. We all had a good time with laughs in the midst of the strategy. Definitely, worth having.

    Oh yes! Scout is by far one of the best games in their catalogue. This video came out before Oink picked up the rights to Scout. I love Scout, but I love Startups more. Nothing wrong with second place though!

    This was my first video of yours! Loved it and subscribed!! My favorite is Insider but I house ruled the voting to make it easier. I love Startups, Maskmen, Nine Tiles Panic, and Fake Artist! I also find Tricks and the phantom to be charming. I've played a lot of love letter so I'm happy to have a different but similar game!

    Thanks and welcome to Cardboard East! Oink has indeed made some excellent games over the years! A lot of people hear about them and don’t know where to start, which is partially why I made this video 👍 If you’re ever curious about a particular game in Asia, let me know!

    Great review! I consider myself one of Oink's fan and have been collecting some of these games. I have sold Fafnir and Kobayakawa though, since after several play it gets same-y. But I do enjoy them a lot! On the other hand, Durian and Insider I would never sell/give away, since I've taught them to newbies a lot and created many great memories with my friends. My Fake Artists markers even have gone dry, and I've logged at least 100 playthrough of Startups! Thanks for making this review! Will consider picking up Dungeon of Mandom, Maskmen, and Nine Tiles Panic now!

    Thanks for watching! My variant was fairly simple. I let players look at the rocks they pick up. They can’t talk to any other player unless they’re on the exact same spot though. There’s a character card that gives you this ability; I simply don’t play with her. I wasn’t a big fan of not being able to see the rock you’re carrying. It’s frustrating. You could get a lot of rocks, make it back to the shuttle, and then still lose. That didn’t sit well with me.

Out of all of them, Toika doesn't really get played, but they all look snug in a row, in my gaming display :D

    @@CardboardEast Hey, I recently purchased this at the recent UKGE in England. You are trying to build a 6x6 grid town, by placing building tiles you randomly draw. But! You can't place the same colour or shaped building in a row or column. You are also trying to finish with no tiles left in your hand, whilst also trying stay in game as long as you can - in case of a tied score at the end of a game, the player who stayed longer playing the game will win the tie.. It's really fun. My family loves it. When I played a demo at the expo, the staff likened it to a Qwirkle type variant, though I haven't played that game yet. Hope this helps!

    Great reviews! Totally agree that a bunch of the Oink games are misses. You don't have one of my favorite ones, The Pyramid's Deadline - have you played it? I like spacial puzzles and the added push your luck (and trying to make other people die) with taking the square dice makes it a lot of fun. Nine Tiles is my favorite Oink Game but I love real time games and you don't.

  • @CardboardEast

    Thanks! And yes! I have played Pyramid’s Deadline. I remember liking and appreciating it but not loving it. I believe I gave it away to a friend as a gift 🎁 Hahaha. I think I love Nine Tiles Panic because it’s a real-time game where players aren’t yelling at each other 😅 Oddly enough, I think that’s why I like Magic Maze too (besides the big red pawn-that’s just one of the best components in all of gaming!)

  • @ambierona

    @ambierona

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@CardboardEast haha the big red pawn is like people silently yelling at each other! I guess Nine Tiles also doesn’t have people yelling at each other, since it’s just a speed game and not cooperative. But it doesn’t have any of the theme stuff that Nine Tiles Panic has.

    @@CardboardEast not trying to argue here but i like very much the 2 person scout; though the strategy is different than 4 people, I will say the 2 person is perhaps more entertaining to play than the 4 person. also less downtime makes it more exciting. the 2 people variant requires you to minimize the number of cards in a show (since each card in a show will be earned by the opponent) so a lot of times you could just play a 8, 9 or 10 (single card) just to make the opponent play a 2-card show so you earn more.

    @@nickye3061 I’ve played various 2p variants over the years, including the one from the original designer. None of them really resonated with me. It’s rare for me to like card games (that weren’t specifically designed for two) at the 2p count. Card games specifically designed to be played at 2 almost always have a tighter and more interesting gaming experience. There are exceptions, but in my mind I’m thinking: if I don’t play 2p games, when I have 2p, then when will I play them? Scout is a fantastic game, but for me, at 2p, there are other 2p games that blow it out of the water. But if 2p Scout is for you, then that’s awesome! I would love it if I loved Scout at 2 because I’d play it far more often, and I love playing Scout.

    @@CardboardEast hey thanks for the response! i can fully understand your logic and i'm the same (also could you recommend some 2p games that you like?). To me im actually the reverse: I often find that multiple-player games played at 2p are generally better than games specifically designed at 2p. The reason being: for games specifically for 2p, the games are very much "symmetrical" but i kinda don't like that. One example being "the crew" where I find it's particularly fun to play at 2p. I am rather new to board games but I find myself enjoying a lot of games that played at 2 and thats surprising to me. Name a few examples, scout, the crew,:misson deep sea, hanabi... these games (at 2p) are even not recommend at bgg but i just personally find it at least on par with playing with more people. Thanks for your reply & detailed video anyways :)
