What a beautiful vehicle! Such a mere beast but I love the Sherman right along with the m1a2!
It's incredible the work and effort you guys put into restoring and keeping history alive, I know it is no easy feat and is not a cheap venture. This past winter I helped a friend finish restoring a 1941 Dodge military ambulance, the research he put into finding replacement parts was mind boggling, he wanted it to be as original as humanly possible, it has a full compliment of stretchers ( I supplied 1of them but cant say where it came from, lol ) the spring loaded fold down seats and new flooring that is as close to original as humanly possible. Thankfully the engine and drive train had previously been rebuilt and most of the work was cosmetic but it was still a boat load of work. It now sports a frsh coat of military green paint and a full set of medical emblems and numbers and looks ready to hit the battle field if it had to.

A labor of love.
Me: A M4 Sherman fan Also me: *HYPE!*
To see that you guys stripped her down all the way to nothing but the bare hull then repainted everything and put her back together was amazing. She looks like she just rolled off the end of the factory assembly line.
Man... @1.55 I have to turn up the volume just to listen the engine rumbling sound . l Love that noise! .
Very impressive looking tank, I didn't know the M51 Super Sherman existed, looks like a quality restoration.

Man, I was going to ask if they added any extra armor to the Super Sherman's but once seeing it stripped down!?!? Shiver... I wish I had the time, money, and know how to do something like this. Enjoy
Awesome project
There are some good looking tanks & tastes differ; but the T-34, King Tiger, Walker Bulldog, and Leopard G2A come to mind. To my eye though, for all it's trumpeted inadequacies, nothing beats an early cast-hull Sherman with 75mm gun for aesthetic appeal. Their lines are superb. Of course, when the welded hull became expedient, all those flowing lines were lost and the beauty evaporated. The Sherman became blocky and unappealing. It was the welded hull in this video's thumbnail that drew me in.
One of my favorite tanks!!!

@@Filterzigarre this tank wasn't for world war two it was used by Israel after the war, they upgraded it with a 105mm tank gun, not a howitzer giving it the fire power of a main battle tank while still using the chassis of a Sherman. which is better than what either Germany or Russia's ww2 medium tanks were upgraded with, closest thing is the T100 in Egypt which was more of a self propelled gun than a tank.

The story of the Sherman is well known to anyone who cares to learn it's history. The Chieftain has a couple videos that tell the story well. Briefly the Nazis started invading its neighbors with good (not great) small and medium tanks. They succeeded largely because their victims were unprepared and the Germans were. They foolishly invaded the much bigger Soviet Union and discovered that the Russians had more, bigger, and better tanks. The Germans still had organization and experience on their side and won most of the early conflicts. This got Germany into a tank arms race leading ultimately to the giant Tiger and Panther tanks. The Sherman was a smaller medium tank. But for America it was a better tank. It was made with mass production techniques and interchangeable parts. It was thoroughly tested. It was very reliable. The Nazi big cats weren't. It was made in great numbers while Tigers were quite rare on the battle field. At Normandy we had five times as many armored vehicles as the Nazis. Even at Arracord where there were approximately the same numbers of Shermans and Panthers the exchange ration favored the Shermans. Some of the reasons America was slow to join the tank arms race and build bigger tanks was that we had to ship the damn things across an ocean. The Germans at the end were fighting with Tigers in front of the Tiger tank plant. And we were winning the war overhead with four engine bombers. At the very top ranks we knew we were going to win in August 1945 when we dropped the Atomic Bomb on Berlin. Roosevelt certainly knew this. But the Nazis surrendered in May 1945 - just a few months before we were going to obliterate them. Why bother with replacing the Sherman with the bigger, better Pershing when the war was almost over? We had already won all the important tank engagements with the little Sherman. The current enthusiasm for Tigers and Panthers stems from computer gaming. Agreed. The Nazi tanks are better in fantasy. The Sherman was a reality tank.

In that era (1950s 60s) before composite or reactive armor, there was no RHA thickness that could defeat shaped charge ATGMs or HEAT rounds, so the lack armor really wasn't a weakness.
Ah this tank has been at The War & Peace Revival in 2017, '18 and '19, also at Capel in 2018 and '19. It's so good to see this version of the Sherman here in the UK. How much did it cost to import it from the USA? Was it originally made during WW2 then shipped to Israel for service there once it went out of US Army service then upgraded by the Israeli Defence Force?
There's an island park in my city with an M103 sitting in it after it was donated. Every year it sinks a little bit further into the mud. All the hatches are welded shut, lights removed, etc. It's a sad end for such a monster.

P47 engine on tracks ?
When the Israeli converted these tanks did they have to beef up the transmissions any for the added weight of the turret and for the torque of the diesel engine?

I play a game called Flames Of War, which is a WW2 miniatures wargame. FOW has a "cousin" called Team Yankee which is the same but modern tanks. Its cool because in Team Yankee you can use these Israeli Sherman's despite the fact your enemy is using an Abrams or Leopard.

Israelis made good service of these old workhorses as far better Trained than Arab Tank crews of the time.
That is not a M51 Super Sherman or Isherman it is just the M51. The Israeli M1 is the only tank designated by the Israeli's as the Super Sherman.
