A Conrail Locomotive pulling a train of passenger cars. I just love it. Would be nice if Conrail came back in service.

The only Conrail locomotive I know of that pulls passenger cars these days is a Metro-North heritage unit.

Approximately 20 are left in SP gray 3:19 Herzog well train being towed by a GEVO 3:52 KCS 4859 as mid-train DPU, and back again 14 hours later. The left side is in Spanish while the right is in English. 4009 is like that too. 4:18 loaded Amtrak ballast cars. 4:51 P42 154 trailing on a freight train! 6:30 AC&W private car on the Capitol Limited 7:53 NS 7513 and 8025 move through the yard without cars 8:50 5261 is heading to the Norfolk and Portsmouth Belt Line, which is part of the NS system. 5259 is an Operation Lifesaver unit and 5260 is a heritage unit 11:07 CSX 1776 as mid-train DPU 12:46 NS 3987 in ex-CMQ paint 15:30 four Horizon cars on the Southwest Chief. These are probably heading to Beech Grove for repairs 18:40 wheel burning up 19:30 ALC42s 306 and 305 on the Coast Starlight 19:49 CSX 1982 as mid-train DPU 20:01 epic 10-unit all-EMD lash-up

I wonder about the speed of the BNSF train at LaPlata with the BJRY SW14 switcher? I had heard that units with AAR Type A switcher trucks were supposed to be limited to 45mph. I can neither verify that nor ascertain the speed of the train -- I was just curious!

Can't say about Horseshoe Curve specifically, but I do know that many railroads have crews that 'scale' bluffs, rock cuts, and tunnels: that is, remove loose or suspect rock before it can fall and cause trouble.

180+ M1117's were promised Ukraine over six months ago. They apparently needed considerable preparation to be combat ready once again. No doubt they will be welcome additions to Ukraine's motorized and mechanized infantry brigades. Properly used, they are effective in delivering troops where they need to be and provide firepower to help take objectives. They are not, strictly speaking, front line combat vehicles but more like second-line transports and fire support. OTOH, Ukrainians have had success attacking with armored Humvees, so who knows what they will accomplish with the Guardians. Assuming the ground is firm enough to hold them, of course.
