M/V Mississagi arrives at Port Of Cleveland

Ойын-сауық

Lower Lake Tower boat Mississagi arrives at the Port of Cleveland Ohio. Thanks to AIS I had seen this was sailing west through Lake Erie with plenty of time for me to get my cameras ready. Shown entering the mouth of the Cuyahoga River and going through the Norfolk Southern lift bridge. For more on the Mississagi view my next ship video of her snaking through the river at Irish Bend.
The Mississagi was built "Hill Annex", a L6-S-B1 Maritime class ship built by the Great Lakes Engineering Works, River Rouge, MI. She was rechristened George A. Sloan for the U.S. Steel Corp, later sailing for Pittsburgh Steel, Bradley Transportation Co and USS Great Lake Fleet. She was acquired by the current owners Lower Lakes Towing in March 2001( LLT, parent company Rand Logistics ). The Mississagi is 620 feet long and capable of carrying 15,800 tons.

Thank you Scott for this awesome video as well showing my neck of the woods. She was a beautiful ship and you did her justice!

I’m so glad you shared your videos of her. She lives on through videos only now. 😢Thank you.

Another fine video Scott. Branching out from tracks & steel wheels, nice! I used to hang around on Whiskey Island shooting ore trains & the Huletts working at unloading the big boats many years ago.

+Chuck Ashton Thank you! I should have started earlier. I always watched the boats at Fairport Harbor. I didn't realize how many have been scrapped since I moved away from the lake.

Oh that is so cool ... I miss those boats. Go to Toledo and film some boats (and the CN Lang yard, where I learned to love trains).

+shariys1 so far I've only filmed one ship at Toledo, the Algosteel which I chased down the river. I haven't got around to editing the video yet.

I got her twice in 2020. Waited a long time at Lorain to see her last visit to that port.
