Long storage train on a rickety shortline Y&S Railroad IBCX 5152 GP38-2
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
IBCX 5152 leads 7225 on the Youngstown and Southeastern Railroad. The train has just departed Haselton Yard in Youngstown when they roll by my camera at Powersdale Ave. This line makes a big loop going NW out of Haselton to turn south. They slowly climb the grade so getting ahead of them a the Gibson St overpass is rather easy. Then we relocated to E Indianola Ave where they are now facing south. Normally they've notched down by here but with the large storage train, the rear half was probably still on the other side of the grade. The drone went ahead one street to shoot them at E Florida Ave. I had to skip several miles of good locations since the Poland area is congested and the train creeping through absolutely snarled traffic. We shot them again at E Harvard Blvd where some of the best fall colors were along the railroad. Next up is the North Lima locations. Here is the base of Y&S operations as well as Crouse Mills True Value which has the boxcars and caboose. These cars are actually part of the store now and house their G scale trains for sale. Crouse Mills sells way more than trains, we find unique and useful merch every time we visit. Definitely worth visiting! We skipped ahead to Columbiana and filmed them at E Friend St. The south switch of the siding has been removed since we were last here. That last spots we filmed were Metz Rd and Kelly Park Rd before heading home.

*A very professionally shot video, Scott. **_Nicely done!_* I ran hundreds of trains on this line in the late 90s and early 2000s when I was Superintendent of Operations for the Youngstown Division of the Ohio Central Railroad. We ran 40-car loaded trains south to Negley with four GP10s on the point. It was all they could do to get up that 2.02% grade that crests near Midlothian Boulevard. The grade going south out of Columbiana was a tough one, too. I once ran a train of empties north that had 82 cars! The traffic at Route 224 in Boardman was backed up for about a mile each way after we passed through with that big train. The railroad actually looks to be in pretty good shape today. I saw several large piles of old ties along the right-of-way, indicating they've been recently replaced with new (or relay) ties. That's a good sign.
Men at work on a operative shortline , wish them success and keep people working ….
Amazing how clean the cars look-------no graffiti.
Y&S hasn't changed much since the P&LE days. Thanks for videoing this.
An interesting railway line and a great GP38-2. Very nicely filmed and presented. Thanks for showing.
Liked the vintage power❤❤ Too bad 5152 couldn’t be painted back in her southern colors
Couldn't help but notice quite a few unmolested hoppers in that train, many with a shine to them yet.
A good cut of cars in storage is big bonanza for the shortline. Easy money. No expense. They just sit on unused track. As long as they don´t have to retrieve them in winter in 3 feet of snow. They can add surcharge for snow removal. Cream on the sundae, not hazardous material. Thanks for the good shot. Well film + drone in colorful fall...and bonus, clean almost untagged cars.
Wow great catch thanks omg I surprised nothing derail those tight curves 😊
Even the crossing gate bells are shot....lol
Very cool video!
Nice coming around the curve
That's a nice great hopper storage train
Very nice video, thanks!!!!!!!!!
This is such a cool video, great work!
Thanks again god bless be safe
Great video!
I remember seeing that locomotive in Andersen years ago!!
Love this!!! Thanks a bunch!
Scott, I really like how you edited this video. Really nice change up of different views! Well done!!!
Wow Cool. very nice old school train. New friend here. - SweetDidoy -
awesome is that a alco in the back tracks look top shape 😂
The first locomotive is a former Norfolk Southern, but I believe the second one is a former CN one.
that poor bell!
I think rickety might be an understatement Scott. Great video.

Not as rickety as the old Maumee and Western (now the Napoleon Defiance and Western) that Scott used to video regularly.

Great job😋Scott. I thought the Y&S was long gone years ago. Thanks again!!
Nice video with mostly Tag free cars.
Norfolk Southern with a major dysfunction
I didn’t notice it right away but it’s nice to see the old Alco trailing if my old memory serves me correctly.

I was going to make a goofy comment about this video being "All fake. This is just a well done n-scale layout".🙂
Enjoyed the video
Ever wonder how long these two strokes will be around? What does it all look like in 20, 30 years. They’re already 40+ years old. Hate to see them go
Realy nice video thanks for sharing enjoyed the short lines i work on a short line in new jersey
love it ty pauleeeeeeee
Love to see innovative railway...😅😅😅
IBCX 5152 LHF. The long hood is the front of the unit.
I love when the engine is reversed
Seems like every line in the tri state area is storing those shell hoppers...
Them 2 locomotives are strongggg. I wonder how many grain hoppers they were pulling?????
That 2nd loco is a GP9 or something like that. As for IBCX, Indiana Boxcar Corporation, we see quite a bit of it in Jaw Tooth's Cincinnati Eastern Railroad videos because they have leased locomotives from that outfit.

What is the 1st Gen power ? Can't place the paint scheme either.
Huh. The crossing at East Wayne Street in Lima is doing the same as in this video, the noise is cutting in and out while it's still down.

I'm not sure, but I was thinking about calling it in. I didn't know if it was worth it or not since the gate isn't going up or down when it's active.

@@vettebecker1 interesting... well rail traffic is used as a leading economic indicator... so now i'm thinking, is this a one off or is this a trend... considering how fast the economy has been moving (since the covid lockdowns were lifted, runaway inflation and super high prices) ... i don't think it would hurt to have the economy slow down a bit
