M.2 SSD Drive Upgrade and Cloning with Macrium Reflect

In this video we replace an existing 3.5" HD with two SSD drives, one an M.2 and the other a 2.5" SSD drive. We also show you how to clone the old HD using Macrium Reflect. In the end we run speed tests on all the drives and share that with you.

I just cloned my San Disk SSD desktop C drive to a SK hynix Gold 1 TB SSD drive using Macrium Free. It took 14 hours and 25 minutes!!! The cloning was successful as I switched out the SSDs and had to go to the bios to designate the SK hynix as the new boot drive. BUT 14 hours for cloning a SSD from a SSD was totally unexpected. Good thing I decided to do this overnight, BE WARNED, your computer will be tied up all day if you do not plan ahead!

Nice tutorial! Thanks for explaining and showing the procedures! The 2.5 SSD shows improvement, but also just how bottle-necked the SATA drive is compared to the M.2. Subscribed!

Nice video, but is it normal not to attach heat sink to the nvme drive?

Great video and excellent explanation. Have a question though, is it possible to "copy" (clone) the C: Drive onto a bigger SSD and partition it during cloning? During copying the whole drive, create a new partition on the same newer and bigger SSD (say a D: Drive)

My motherboard is really old. I don't have a M.2 slot. Thats why I'm trying to take everything from my HDD to my new new meg trident. I want to clone everything from that old pc to the new one. The new PC comes with a 1TB M.2 card and I also ordered another 1TB nvme samsung. I want to use the main m.2 for the cloned data and the other one for gaming storage. I'm not sure how I'd transfer my cloned data from my HDD to my main M.2 card. I'd appreciate some help!

on the backup save options I don't really understand what the option "run this backup now" means. Does this have anything to do with the cloning operation or is it for something after the cloning is done.

As I found it is much easier to clone your computer that you've assembled yourself than to clone SSD of the laptops. Laptop's disks in many cases cannot be cloned easy way.

i haven't had better reliability with ssd drives over hd. had 3 ssd drives sudden death fail. I have never had a hd suddenly fail, i have always had warning signs its on its way out.

itd be GREAT if you could respond to this! So i followed through all the steps in a new ssd i got for my birthday, i followed every step properly and when trying to boot to the cloned drive it popped up with a "recovery" message explaining i needed a boot disk or drive although in the BIOS is read the drive but not as UEFI , any thoughts on how to fix it ?

In your BIOS, what is selected as your Boot List Option, UEFI or Legacy? Mine was UEFI and in my settings I did not have the option of making changes to which drives it booted to first. That may have been a Dell setting or a UEFI one, not sure.

I would highly recommend clean installing Windows instead of cloning. I speak from experience
