I know this video is over 2 years old now, but I have to mention this for anyone who came to this video to have instruction on cloning their main drive to a new drive. AOMEI no longer allows system clones in the freeware version or the pro trial of their software. You have to purchase the pro version license. Just an FYI.

So for me to be able to clone my hdd to an ssd and then get rid of the HDD entirely, will I need to also install an operating system to the new(never used) SSD or will the O's being copied also? I do not have a windows disc to do so. Is this the difference between disk clone and system clone in AOMEI?

For those of who are late to the party, use Macrium Reflect Free edition to clone your drives as the AOMEI is no longer supporting cloning on the free version. I just completed cloning pcie3 250GB drive to a pcie4 500GB drive in just 13 minutes without any dramas. Cheers

I ordered the docking station and an SSD drive, downloaded the pirated version of AOMEI Backupper because the free version wouldn't allow cloning and cloning my drive right now at 68%. Thank you so much for the encouragement and all the details. Also, you uploaded the video on my birthday so maybe that was a sign that I kept coming back to it lol. Cheers Mate!

Excellent video, did all that. Works like a charm, thanks. Bought me a Samsung QVO 870 1TB SSD at a sale ($90). First run to clone failed because i selected “SSD Alignment” (option can also be selected to optimize the performance if the destination is an SSD) because they advised it highly. Took up to 80% (4 hours) when it came up with a Failed Error (Not enough space). I did it again without it and still used sector by sector transfer and all my partitions on the 1TB Drive were perfectly cloned, including the three Windows partitions. Swapped the Drives and at first boot all great. Good speed improvements and a lot more snappy. Spending up to $40 for one time use is a bummer, but you get a lot of backup options. Thanks again showing us this feature, it made a change for the better for me.

If you trust Jay implicitly, then you're a bit of an idiot. He tinkers with hardware, but when it comes to software he doesn't know very much. Firstly, cloning a running Windows installation is not a straight-forward process because of in-use files. Secondly, you do NOT get an unused partition if you clone onto a larger HD. Unused space is NOT the same a partition or even close. So, by all means, trust Jay, but since this kind of stuff is my job, I know that's he's taking crap and way out of his depth.

Thanks Jay. I know this is an older video, but it was really useful for me in cloning a bunch of PC's from spinning HDD's to SSD's. One thing I'd say to anyone following this is that if you have the ability, then definitley connect your new/destination SSD via SATA and do the clone from there rather than a USB hub as I've found it MUCH quicker (less than an hour doe 500GB drive) than in the video using a USB type hub (I have one, too). Once the clone is done, I simpy detach the old HDD and plug in the new SSD to the same port as the previous drive on the Motherboard (I'm not even sure that's necessary, but I guess it's minor OCD or something).

If you are having trouble with the paywall, make sure to initialize your new drive in the same format as your old drive. My old HDD was GPT while my freshly installed SSD was MBR (you can see these details in AOMEI as well). Using "create and format hard disk partitions," I was able to initialize my new SSD as GPT to avoid the paywall. (Converting and cloning a GPT drive to an MBR drive was only in the pro version). There are still other locked functions like expanding partition sizes to fill up bigger drives than the original disk, but luckily I did not have to deal with that in my case and I was able to use AOMEI with no other problems.

Two reasons why people might be running into a pay wall instead of being able to go through the steps in this video. 1. During installation you clicked on "Better Choice: Try AOMEI Backupper Pro For Free" instead of choosing "Skip" and installing the Standard Version. 2. If you did install the Standard free version, you clicked on "Clone System" instead of "Clone Disk." In this video Jay tells us to click on Clone Disk. I was able to go through the cloning process as shown exactly in this video twice already, once yesterday (12/9/2022) and once today, without running into a pay wall at all.

It's definitely doable, it's just extra steps and more time.

I think it's important that you guys who do these videos try and get across to the uninitiated the benefits of spending a little extra cash to purchase an extra drive and have it there just in case. I've been cloning my drives for years (I go back to the early days of Ghost) and it's always a comfort to know that if my drive goes bad I can just pop the other (cloned) drive in and be back up and running in no time. It's an easy way of dealing with a nasty virus too. I usually re-clone the drive if I install new software or make any major changes to the setup. That way both drives have the same software and configurations.

make sure to change ur new ssd/ hard drive to GPT in disk management (format same as the disk u wanna clone from), I used 6.3 AOMEI and it's working.

Just for FYI: The software mentioned in this video The Aomei Backupper doesn't provide the system and boot disk cloning feature in the free version. The website or the software doesn't tell you that. When you install and try to clone the disk, it will just keep prompting you pay up the moolah! Very sneaky practice by a garbage company.

WOW! Even with the version difference, this video showed me enough to feel confident enough to do it myself. The drive I was dupping was the root C:\ so Aomie rebotted into PT mode and copied the drive with no extra boot disks kludging about my nerd pit. Once the 300 gigs were cloned (took about 40 mins) from HDD to NVMe ir spammed into boot order and selected my new C drive - so perfect I was not sure it worked. After some system searvhing and my handy Drives manager widget, I knew with confidence that the NVMe was not only new, but bmy boot up went from a snails pace to checkered flag on race day. Thanks Jay!!!!!

You rock ! man, you explain everything like even a kid can do this thing without a slight problem ❤❤❤❤, I like the thing that you explained- it's basically saying - Hey make sure, this is how you wanted cause anything on that drive, when the process is complete, will be gone. 😊

I just finished replacing the 2.5" spinny hard drive in a laptop with a larger-capacity SSD. I tried to clone the hard drive to the SSD with Acronis True Image (recommended by the SSD manufacturer), but it kept failing at the very end of the cloning of the C: partition. Then I tried AOMEI Backupper, and discovered that *its* *disk-clone* *feature* *isn't* *free* *anymore.* Then I tried Macrium Reflect, and it nailed it. It took me a little while to find Macrium Reflect's disk-clone function, but once I found it the process was cake. After replacing the hard drive with the SSD, I used AOMEI Partition Assistant to assign the unused space to the C: partition. The entire process of running Macrium Reflect, doing the drive swap and running AOMEI Partition Assistant took about 4.5 hours.

I use mostly seagate drives(old habit I picked up at a company I worked for) so the seagate disk wizard is free to use. If you're using at least one seagate drive I would highly recommend it, it takes care of all the partitioning issue.

To add to the update about AOMEI, some ssd manufacturers have their own software. Samsung's "Data Migration" worked flawlessly for me and was 100% free. I was upgrading from a sata hhd to a 980 pro nvme. Took about 48 mins total and just worked.
