@@bobsnob3073 Yeah but when would mass storage play a role in an average gamer or a person who works with their PC? I don't think you need 4TB of storage for games unless you wanna install your whole library. I think the benefit of SSD of any form's loadtime outweighs the cost difference for most users, HDD should only be used as mass storage IMO

@@nolyfe4814 Like other SSDs it depends on how much you write on them. The typical 500GB Samsung SSD is rated for 300TB. That means in theory you can write 100GB per day to it for 8 years until it dies. But make sure to not fill up the drives completely, they need free space to evenly distribute the wear. In my experience SSDs can easily outlast some HDDs if you don't regularly write a lot of data on it. The Samsung Pro SSDs have a longer lifespan than the Evo models but are also much more expensive.

M.2 drives typically don't cost more. He's using two different generations which skew price/performance (970 vs 860). Crucial has a 1TB M.2 for $150. You could argue write and read times compared to Samsung but that's not what he's comparing in this video. Then there is the bonus that you don't have to use two cables to connect it to the motherboard. Much cleaner in appearance.

It was such a massive upgrade that I had to physically show other people whenever they showed up. Didn't get a M.2 until I had an issue with the MOBO and accidentally upgraded to a slightly newer variant of the one I had, not knowing for years it had one. Was probably for the best, because by the time I noticed, the price was just right for adoption.

Do you think there would have been a difference if you had been on an 8-core processor with any of these times? Think the 8 cores would have been able to extract more out the nvme since it's read/write specs are faster? I've seen people claim they've noticed a bigger difference with a higher core count cpu. Just curious.

4 year old video, so pricing is different now. 2.5" SSD's back then were a much better deal. Now they are often the same price per TB compared to m.2's. But 2.5" SSD's are still great if you get an amazing deal on one. I built my current Desktop at the end of 2021, and I put in three nvme's (2 on board, one in a pci expansion card. All 1TB. One for OS + Programs, one for personal storage, one for work storage. And I have a 2TB external HDD to backup my storage drives. I always like important data to be on at least 2 different media). The only reason I went nvme was for the simplicity. Just plug in. 2.5" SSD's need power and data cables. So it is just cleaner in a case with a side window. But 2.5" SSD's are still a very viable option, and will be for some time still. The most important thing, no matter what SSD type you get, is to get one with DRAM Cache.
