It's not a Katana It's called a Tuna Kiri Big difference as katanas were designed originally to cut down soldiers in battle it is tempered to a certain degree so it'll go through thin armor and possibly bone and not dull easily. Tuna Kiri's were not designed to go through solid materials. just meat. But they are extremely sharp. That's also why it can't be used like a katana. the thinner the metal the easier and faster it'll wear down the blade and dull it very quick. Also not attacking ya just providing useful information And also these Kiri's are very expensive blades to buy. This exact model they use is 1k usd I do however wonder if one could re-temper the blade so that it can have similar durability to a katana. Possibly depending on the grade of the steel and whether or not it is folded steel or casted

From what i've read it's because of the alloy they generally prefer in asian countries. I forgot the compound so to speak, but they often use a metal that is razorsharp but rusts quicker. So they also have to put in maintenance on that. In the west, we prefer knives that don't rust. As a result the alloy changes. We got knives that aren't necessarily bad, they just need sharpening more often.
