@@JohnnytNatural I think Bird is far more talented naturally. I don't know how old you are but I've been a basketball fan since the mid 70s. Watch some of Bird's passing highlights on KZread. His basketball sense is uncanny. I don't know how many 3 point contests he won but I've heard witnesses says they've seen him hit 50 or 60 in a row in practice - in an era when 3 point shooting wasn't a thing yet.

One of the most respectful discussions on one of these subjects I've ever seen and it's refreshing. I'm sure if JJ Reddick was on there he would have pointed to some obscure analytic that shows Luka is better due to the spacing and pace of modern day NBA. Also, I know this isn't a Celtics show, but I would love a segment with Paul ranking the top 5 or 10 Celtics, and where he would slot himself in. He's a prideful guy (remember the Dwayne Wade comparison) but you can see he gets modest when he considers himself among the Celtics greats.

The Celtics don’t win any championship without Parish. Birds first championship was because of MVP Cedric Maxwell in the Finals not Bird who choked in that series. The Celtics only won 30 games before Bird, Mchale and Parish got their was because Auerbach purposely threw away the season so he could get Bird at the 6th draft choice. To sum it up Bird did not miraculously turn the Celtics around they were not a 30 win team to begin and would not have won 60 without the other allstars including Nate Archibald.

@@robertfarrar9564 The level of ignorance on your part is supreme, and your facts are false. Did you do it on purpose? The Celtics won 29 games the year before Bird was introduced, second worst in the league. Then in 79-80 Bird joins the team without Parish, McHale, Dennis Johnson, Ainge or anyone else you want to think of, just him. And what happens? They win a league best 61 games. As for the first chip, Bird didn't choke. Yeah he was gassed in his scoring because of the unbelievable job he did on beating the 76ers down from 3-1. But he still averaged more assists and rebounds than anyone in the series, and wasn't stat hunting. In the game where he made only 8 points, he had 13 rebounds and 10 assists. He only took 11 shots. If he was stat hunting, he would've made at least one more basket and gets a triple-double, and that alone would've gotten him the mvp. In the other game where he scored low, he had 12 rebounds and 7 assists. He was making plays for everyone and playing defense without inflating his scoring numbers. If he wanted to do that, he would've done it. Bird wanted to win, he wasn't interested in looking good. His assists and rebounds were influential, not a choke job. Parish didn't average as many points as Bird. McHale only averaged 4.7 points, so he wasn't much help. Without Parish do they win? No. Without Bird, Parish never becomes a hall of famer, and they don't win any chips. Saying Archibald threw away the season is asinine (look up the definition of asinine). One player can throw away the season for the team? What about the other players? The coach doesn't care? Just one player makes the decision. What about the season before that, where they only won 32 games? Did Archibald throw away two seasons in a row? Bird was drafted in 78, a whole full year before he left college. So why why Archibald throw away a year away for the whole team when they already drafted Bird? Whoever you are, your opinions are equal to lies, and nobody here on this comments section will share your takes, which means, your takes are unpopular because they are wrong

Are you really that dumb to believe 1 player did all that when they added 10 new players? Bird was not even MVP in finals his 2nd year? You been fed a fantasy fan boy. I am not saying Bird was not the best player on his team but they added 10 or more players from that 30 win team. We need to stop comparing Luka to the top 10 legends of the game. We should compare Luka to Dirk Nowitzki. Let's start with who's the better Mav then go to who's the better overall player. Luka has a lot left to accomplish to reach that Bird status.

That’s a fact. What nobody mentions is the Celtics were not a 30 win team before Bird got there. They purposely threw away the season to get Bird in draft, that was the genius of Auerbach. They became a 60 win team because they now had Bird, McHale and Parish. But the media continues with the lie that Bird was so great he made them a 60 win team but the facts are they were not that bad previously.

@spiritualatom2535 Bird joined a fully fledged legitimate team that had multiple Hall of Famers, good mix of offensive and defensive players. Lukas teams are absolute trash without him and it shows every time he gets injured. There is zero comparison to the Celtics who were absolutely stacked just like the 80s Lakers.
