Lufthansa Trip Report - Munich to Singapore in Economy Class on Flight LH790 - Airbus 350-900

This is a video of me flying with Lufthansa from Munich to Singapore in Economy Class on an Airbus A350-900. I previously arrived at Munich from Birmingham 15 minutes late and had to take a bus back to the terminal, further shortening my connection time. It was quite an anxious experience since I originally only had 1 hour and 50 minutes to change flights. Fortunately, the gate of my onward flight was very close by so I could make my way to the lounge.
While I am not a Miles and More member, I could enter the lounge using one of my credit cards. Feel free to guess what it is in the comments section! I helped myself to some German food but was not able to enjoy it as people started to board the plane before I knew it. One thing to take note of when using the Lufthansa lounges at Munich is they are only equipped with continental European power sockets, and no USB sockets. You may have to have a travel adapter ready if you would like to charge your phone.
The Economy Class section of the plane was quite spacious with 9 seats per row. Each seat is equipped with a TV screen and a USB port for charging devices which is considered standard nowadays. I finally managed to relax after settling into my seat by the window with a good view of the wing. While it was early in March, it was so cold in Munich that the wings have to be de-iced before the plane could take off into the night.
I felt unexpectedly tired that night, but looked forward to dinner nonetheless. I was very pleased as German food was offered - I tried the Bavarian ravioli in tomato sauce on a bed of creamy spinach. The lights went off shortly after my meal and I slept for 4 hours.
I woke up before most people and helped myself to some chocolates and soft drink before the lights went back on. I was a bit dissatisfied with the breakfast. No hot food was served, only a sandwich with yogurt and a cereal bar with a brand called Corny. How cheap and corny of you, Lufthansa!
In any case, we were almost there. The plane approached Changi Airport from the southwest, and I was able to have a glimpse of the construction site of the upcoming Changi Airport Terminal 5 and third runway. I landed in a rainy afternoon and got off the plane at Terminal 2.
When I got close to immigration, I realised that I had to fill in an SG Arrival Card. Singapore is so high tech that Arrival Cards can only be submitted online! It was a bit awkward to have to connect to the free Wifi and fiddle around with my phone after such a long and tiring flight, but I managed to complete it in 10 minutes. Nevertheless, I could have filled it in in the comfort of my own home a few days before my journey. In any case, immigration was automated so it took me only another 10 minutes to clear it, collect my suitcase and get past Customs to the Arrival Hall.
I ordered a StarHub Tourist SIM Card on a website called Klook at a discount, so I turned right to the United Overseas Bank (UOB) counter to collect it. For your information, you will have to provide your passport details whenever you obtain a SIM card in Singapore. I then took a taxi to my hotel. I stayed at the Conrad Centennial Singapore, located in the city centre right at the other end of the East Coast Parkway (ECP). Traffic was mostly smooth so it only took me 25 minutes to get to my hotel.
After I was shown my room, there was still plenty of time to go out and look for a decent restaurant. The Conrad Centennial is in a very convenient location as the Suntec City shopping centre is right across the road from it. I eventually decided to eat at a Malaysian restaurant called the Penang Place on Level 2, and treated myself to a nasi lemak with chicken cutlet, one of my favourite dishes.
One last thing, I like to call this type of video flight reports, while many others prefer the terms flight review, flight experience and trip report. Each to their own, I guess.

You may be pleasantly surprised when I finally have time to create the report on my return journey. In any case, would you fancy a Corny bar?

Funny enough, I was looking for alternatives to CX to Hong Kong and the rest of Asia. It is always a short journey to get to LHR, and Birmingham Airport is way easier to get to from where I live and work. But hey, Qatar Airways is finally resuming flights from BHX this July!

Lufthansa food for such a long flight looks truly awful! And LH is not cheap. Maybe a lesson for those viewing this not to fly with LH longhaul

Thanks for commenting! Would you fancy a Corny bar? Anyways, I booked my ticket to Singapore 2 weeks before my trip. I chose Lufthansa because their flights depart at very convenient times and are one of the few airlines with tickets costing under £1000 then. I also thought I'd give Lufthansa a go because I have a credit card that allows me to use their lounges even if I am not a Miles and More member. In some ways, it is good that the food drew a lot of attention in and out of KZread. When I told one of my mates about the Bavarian ravioli, he asked what is the difference between that and ordinary ravioli besides being Bavarian! The fact that no hot food was served for breakfast also got on his nerves. I am still trying to decide if I should jump ship to Miles and More or not, as several other airlines belong to it. Is Swiss Airlines any better?

Even their biz food for long haul is awful!!! And they aren’t the cheapest with old layout in biz class with higher price than other airlines, the good thing is only the luggage allowance

Alongside Air France I would 10000% avoid Lufthansa on any long haul flights….the whole experience from the drab cabin to the disinterested crew to the (lack of) food is just depressing and sad. The fact that they can’t even be bothered to cater a proper hot second meal on such a long flight says so much about their management culture who only cares about Cost Cutting A-Z and can’t be bothered to spend a dime on basic catering…..avoidLufthansa long haul if you don’t wanna get ripped off, shame on you Lufthansa what a scammer

Just to let you know, I booked my flight and hotel at the end of February, so it was pretty much a last minute booking. Lufthansa is the only airline offering a fare under £1000 by that point. I also decided to try Lufthansa because one of my credit cards allows me to enter their Business Class lounges without being a Miles and More member or paying. I am still thinking about joining Miles and More though. Is Swiss Airlines any better?

Germany has become a highly taxed, highly regulated and very inefficient country. It's no wonder that the companies have to cut costs. It's their only chance to compete against premium carriers unless they want to go broke. Air France, BA etc. certainly are not better.

@@m.3257 going by your own example even BA is better thesedays, they still serve you a proper hot second meal on long haul flights….the most you get for a second “meal” with Air France is a junk food galore snack box and a sad sandwich with Lufthansa.
