Love the look. At the volumes proposed, will actually worry Porsche more than Tesla. (Same numbers as Taycan, same external footprint (!) Much better packaging, range, etc)

Agree, but for 135K, it will take from both.I would take it over both a model S and Taycan

@@rogerstarkey5390 The 169k Dream editions aren't for sale anymore, since they were a launch-only trim. Grand Touring (the next highest trim) is 135k

Very interesting video. It is so great to see all the advancements and new technologies that are created in the EV industry making the Lucid air what it is today. 🚗 ⚡️

The current top of the line Air is the Grand Touring at US$ 139k with 516 miles of range. Base Air Pure should come to market by the end of this year at $77,400 with 406 miles of EPA range and solid painted roof. Current automotive Lidar units run $4k-$8k. Velodyne has just released a lidar sensor for ADAS systems for $100 per unit when ordered in high volume.

The lidar in the front is a smaller, solid state lidar. It is different from the spinning lidar we see on the top of Waymo. It does not cost $10k. it costs around $1k, maybe less.

The Tesla channel has an amazing new drone video of GigaBerlin.

lucid has an interesting "Tech Talk" video up where they go over the battery in pretty good detail. Interesting. Significantly different than Tesla. In the video there is a brief shot of a motor cutaway, worth a freeze-frame. The differential is _Inside_ the rotor! I've never seen anything like that. Can't wait for a teardown.

I’ve seen the video. Actually their battery tech is closer to the old Model S battery than anything Tesla is doing now. Lucid is full of ex Tesla battery engineers

@@teslaownersonline5805 While modular like the early Teslas, the cooling was different, allowing more dense cell packaging. I think the 4680 packs will use similar cooling. I found having a BMS per module and casting bus bars into the module to be clever efficiencies. Surprised to see aluminum buss assemblies, but the decision was well explained.

Its not cold, its room temperature.

I love that for some reason, American brands care for putting huge frunks in EVs. The Germans and Koreans are dropping the ball there, so hard. But why don't Americans build wagons? They can look so good and are a huge part of the global fleet. Even in the 6 figure segment. Slippery as a sedan, more spacious than most so-called SUVs.

Most Americans of a certain age remember being in the back row of a station wagon (or the 3rd row facing backward) and apparently didn't want that for their kids which reduced the market share enough that they are a niche. Heck, actual sedans (of which I am a fan) are out of favor. For some very expensive reason, they prefer high slung and not very aerodynamic bricks (aka SUVs).

I saw it at the same place you did. Was in West Palm a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful car, but hard to get in and out. And I’m not that tall.

Not a big fan of the look to be honest. Sure it will find its niche though.

Surprisingly, the Lucid interior is much larger than the Model S interior - I've sat in both and measured it. They package the drivetrain and internals with better engineering to allow the extra passenger space.

@@Maninae Lucid pushed the rear seat toward the back to get more leg room but sacrificed the head room. The width is narrower than Model S and the height also lower.

Good luck to Lucid,.when it comes to EVs, the more the merrier! Not a fan of the look though.

I don't know about lidar but I think it's $10k lmao.....you have zero idea what you're talking about. These lidar sensor on cars can go UP TO $1k.
