Lubing the Anne Pro 2's Switches and Stabilizers without Desoldering or Opening up the Keyboard

Ойындар

Diaries of a Keyboard Noob Episode 2- Watch it with headphones!
In this video, I go through my experience in trying to Lube the Anne Pro 2 without desoldering or disassembly.
Not advisable for clicky (blue switch).
For tactile (brown switches), if you want to preserve the tactile feel, lube only three sides. Do not lube where the metal contacts/legs are. It is the side opposite of the LED- do not lube that side. If you want your tactile bump to feel smoother, then lube all four sides but at that point, you should probably just get a linear.

    The kB community would no doubt scoff at this but fact is, the majority of mech users don't have the skills or desire to desolder an entire board just to lube. This legitimately helps the sound and feel and doesn't in anyway damage the board. So I think it's a great option.

    I've recently used this method in my Anne Rro 2 (Gateron Red) and my MSI vigor GK80 (Cherry Silver) and worked like a charm in both. They are my first mechanical keyboards and I didn't wanna risk messing up with sprays or desoldering switches because I have zero experience with a solder. In the future my intention is buying a hot swappable keyboard and I''ll lube the switches the proper way, but so far this is a very good alternative. Time consuming, but safe and with satisfactory results. I've used Super Lube Multipurpose Grease with PTFE and at the beginning switches sounded kinda mushy, but in a few hours sounded better and the next day the feeling was perfect in both keyboards. Anne Pro already sounded quite nice in stock condition but it made a huge difference in the MSI GK80.

  • @TheDredgenProject

    @TheDredgenProject

    Glad to know it worked! Some had been asking about Super Lube and it's something that I have not tried so it's good to see that it worked. Was it a thick grease? You probably needed time for the lube to spread out in the switch and even out. Also, yes hotswap is the way to go if you are starting to like modding your keyboards. The reason I put up this video is because a lot of us start with soldered keyboards but do not have an easy way to lube them. A lot do say soldering is easy but there is quite an investment there. Glad to know it helped!

    I did this with my Keychron K4 not long ago. I've lubed switches and stabs the traditional way before, but I really didn't feel like taking this one apart and doing that again. This was exactly the same process I came up with. I used the same lube I used before, SuperLube PTFE silicone grease, which I also use on stabs (it's cheap and works well, you just have to be super light on application for switches). My K4 has yellow linears, and I was never happy with how they felt, the switches are just really scratchy. At first I wasn't too happy with the result, but after giving it a few days to work in, the switches started feeling much better. As you said in the vid, it isn't the same as doing a full tear down lube. But it is a solid 75-80% there, which is perfectly fine considering the minimal amount of work compared to the other way. I would definitely do this again rather than another tear down.
