    We have had a lot of people ask, so just to clarify, the lines we used are not pure copper brake lines, they are Cunifer or Copper Nickel lines, which are as far as we know, legal for road use here in Victoria. It is a product that is mainly used overseas, not so much here on OEM vehicles, as it is designed to be easy to work with as well as prevent rusting.

    To late now but next time you guys are making up brake lines, use welding wire to make a template first of where you want the bends. So much easier 👍

    Nice video but you should probably have used flex line to the calipers to allow you to remove them and not have to disconnect and re-bleed the system whenever you change the rotors. Great build

    Haha . . . HQ brake boosters!! I remember as a first year apprentice, during all the industrial turmoil in the 70's the evening news would show file footage of the Holden plant when the story was about the Vehicle Builder's Union going out on strike yet again. The film showed a HQ coming up the line towards the camera then the line did a LH turn. The car was just a body shell, painted. With a brake booster fitted. I found out why the brake booster was the first thing fitted to the body when I had to change one!! Man those top nuts were pricks! I ended up removing the speedo and running 2 x 12" extensions down the speedo hole with someone else trying to hold the socket on the nut. A 2 man job to change a brake booster. Holy Mother Of God!! Love ya work boyz.

    You may also need to ditch the residual line pressure valve. They're meant to keep the seals in a wheel cylinder expanded against the bore to prevent leaks. It will just make your calipers drag the pads against the disc. You should probably talk to your brake guy about the proportioning valve too. Drums tend to need less brake pressure than discs, your rear brakes may be less effective now. I stand to be corrected on that one though.

  • @HackshopGarage

    @HackshopGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah ok, that’s fair enough. We had spoken about whether the proportioning valve needs to be changed, but we were told that in HQs they should be fine, but if anyone has any experience with a similar set up, we will take it on board too

    You could use coat hangers to make the patterns for brake lines then when bending the real stuff it should make working out angles/ bend points a little easier, Good stuff though as always.

    I used that brake line flaring tool on my VL Commodore where I double flared the fittings. As far as the charcoal canister goes,the fuel filler neck is my concern because the unleaded petrol tanks were fitted with a 1 way check valve inside of the fuel filler cap because the evaporative emission control system is sealed from the atmosphere apart from venting air into the fuel tank. I think that the engineers can be picky with fuel filler spout because it needs to have an unleaded fuel filler cap fitted. You can use the charcoal canister off another VT onwards Commodore ,!

    My comments always seem negative, and I apologise for that. It's been a while since I was on the tools, but when I was, copper brake pipe in Australia was an absolute no no. Bundy tube was the only allowable solid line for road going cars.

    All good mate, we always appreciate the feedback, from what we researched, you are right, pure copper is not legal. However the lines we used are copper coated steel, we checked it with a brake guy, and he said they are just coated in copper to prevent rusting, mainly in overseas applications

    I love your build guys it's helping me for when my brother asks the question "can you put a ls in my hq ute"... But just a heads up the npt thread into the wilwood calipers that you got adapters for makes them not adr approved... you may possibly get knocked back on a roady with them if the roady guy has read the rules correctly..... I'm not being a "you must comply with the law" as my cars are far from roadworthy...lol.. I just wanted to let you and everyone else know

    Looking good guys 😊 Did you say you went with Kunifer lines or Copper? Just cos ADR allows Kunifer under SAE J1470 but Copper isn't allowed. I love using Kunifer as it's so much easier to bend than crappy old steel Bundy and will never rust inside or out 😁

    Incorrect ! Its a Proportioning valve to control pressure to back drum brakes, The residual pressure valve lives in the master cylinder, only used in drum brake applications. seeing that they have a 4 wheel disc master cylinder . No problem with residual pressure. If using a factory disc/drum master cylinder for 4 wheel disc, the residual pressure valve must be removed..

    Copper Nickel tube? I was getting anxious, but you mentioned "it's not copper" so good. Copper will NEVER pass engineering. Just putting it out there. Bundy tube (Copper/nickel) is accepted by ASRF in QLD, and other states. It's a good looking HQ fellas, well done. *edit* hey guys, do you have a link for the brake line? I've been straightening out and using my old lines from donor vehicles on my street rod, as templates/samples. So I need to re-make them all once planned out of new stuff. Fuel lines too, but that's my problem. Cheers !
